In an instant, every one of Feng Guang’s danger instincts flared to life. She turned around and saw the smiling face of the man before her, but by the time she tried to pull herself out of his embrace, it was already too late.
Qi Wei tightly held her wrist as a soft laugh escaped his lips. “Feng Guang, are you trying to run away?”
Of course, she wanted to run.
But she couldn’t.
The only reason she still dared to face this man was that she knew that even if she died, she would merely return to the System’s white space. Yes, she would die in this world—but she could be reborn in the next one.
So what exactly was there to fear?
Suddenly, Feng Guang calmed down. Expressionless, she looked at the man before her and even managed a faint smile.
“I’m not running. The entire island belongs to you anyway. I can’t escape, so why waste the effort?”
“Feng Guang really is a smart girl.” He patted her head approvingly, as though rewarding her.
Feng Guang smiled faintly and asked calmly, “So… what are you going to do next?”
If anyone asked what she was thinking now, the answer would be simple: she just wanted to leave this world as quickly as possible. It didn’t matter if the mission failed.
Because for the first time, when facing someone this mentally twisted… she felt disgust.
The feeling had come out of nowhere. Back when she met Nangong Zhe in the hospital, she had only felt fear, never disgust. When she saw the other patients, she had only pitied them. But this overwhelming revulsion… it existed only for this man.
Yes.
She hated him.
The reason didn’t matter. It came naturally, as though no explanation were needed.
“Feng Guang…” He stared into her calm, lifeless eyes and said in a flat voice, “You hate me.”
“I’m just your food anyway. Does it matter whether I hate you or not?”
“You’re supposed to like me. How can you hate me?” Suddenly, he seemed like a confused child, someone who didn’t understand that feelings should be mutual, yet stubbornly insisted that she still liked him.
To Feng Guang, his words sounded ridiculous. The corner of her lips curled into a mocking smile, but then the expression froze.
Her gaze suddenly went blank.
In a dark place, someone had once asked her the same question…
“You clearly like me. How can you hate me?” That voice had been incredibly gentle, yet in the darkness, it carried no warmth at all. “Feng Guang, you love me.”
What was that?
A memory left behind from another world?
The System had once told her that her emotions would eventually be erased, and along with them, the memories tied to each world would gradually fade until they were forgotten completely.
Feng Guang was human.
Which meant she was destined to be unable to keep the memories of every world. Otherwise, the accumulated emotions would push her mind to the brink of collapse.
More importantly… she would discover something.
But discover what?
“Feng Guang…” Qi Wei asked softly, “What are you thinking about?”
Her drifting thoughts snapped back instantly. Startled, Feng Guang blinked rapidly and stared blankly at Qi Wei.
A broken syllable escaped her lips.
“Lu…”
As though her throat had gone hoarse, she could not say another word.
Confusion filled her eyes.
She had forgotten what she wanted to say.
Qi Wei’s gaze suddenly darkened. One hand rested at her waist while the other slid behind her back, slowly pulling down the zipper of her dress.
Lightly biting her earlobe, he whispered:
“I’m Qi Wei…”
