“You might as well say you’re here to protect my fiancée.” Nangong Zhe called her “fiancée” with surprising ease. He got out of bed, the chains clinking softly as he moved, and stopped about three steps away from Qi Wei. With a shrug, he said, “Look at me—what could I possibly do to her in this state?”
Only then did Fengguang notice the chains fastened around his ankles. Their length only allowed him to move about two meters from the door. She instinctively glanced at Qi Wei, and the words slipped out before she could stop herself: “Is this how you treat your patients—like animals, keeping them chained up?”
There was an unexpected edge of disapproval in her tone.

“You want to break off our engagement?” Nangong Zhe blinked, looking almost pitiful. “My dear fiancée, I’m not without hope of getting out. And yet you’re abandoning me already?”
How is this abandoning you? We were never even together! Fengguang complained inwardly. She knew that a highly intelligent psychopath could easily manipulate people. Grabbing onto Qi Wei’s sleeve, she peeked out from behind him and said timidly, “Whether you get out or not has nothing to do with me, because I… I’ve already fallen in love with Doctor Qi at first sight!”
