The scent of blood slowly settled in the black grand hall, replaced by an even more suffocating atmosphere.

Blind Mo Feng heard measured footsteps approaching him. A hand gently rested on his shoulder.

“For all these years of loyal service to the Elders’ Council, you’ve worked very hard,” the man said mildly. “From here on, you may rest.”

Mo Feng felt killing intent surge toward him from all directions.

Ming An withdrew his hand, walked past him, and exited the hall. Behind him came an explosive sound, like fireworks bursting—but he seemed not to notice.

After passing through a dark and silent corridor, he stopped outside the last room at the very end. Inside, he saw the girl—more precisely, a girl crouched on the floor with a spoon, desperately digging at the corner of the wall.

Feng Guang wasn’t digging because she had nothing better to do. She had simply remembered all those prison-break movies she’d seen before. With no other options, this was the only method she could think of trying.

“What is my little girl digging for?” he asked.

“A tunnel to escape…” She answered reflexively, then abruptly froze. Turning around, she saw the tall man standing there, his shadow casting over her.

He smiled, patting the top of her head. “Not bad. You’re working very hard.”

She had actually managed to dig a small pit in the corner. Even Ming An couldn’t help but offer a word of praise.

Feng Guang tossed the spoon aside and reached her arms out toward him.

He bent slightly and, with practiced ease, scooped her up in a bridal carry. Her arms immediately wrapped around his neck, and before long, she began to sob.

“I didn’t give you up! Why did you come here to die on your own? Now we’re really going to end up as doomed lovers!”

“What doomed lovers? Aren’t we both still alive and well?” He carried her to the simple bed and sat down, gently wiping away her tears with his fingers. Amused, he added, “You can’t keep crying like this. You’re going to be a mother very soon.”

She quickly forced back her tears and wiped her eyes. Though she stopped crying, her voice still trembled. “You… you know I’m pregnant?”

“Yes. I know.”

“Then… do you like him?” She guided his hand to her still-flat stomach and carefully studied his expression.

Ming An was silent for a moment before smiling. “Of course I do.”

“I like him very much too.” She rubbed her face happily against his chest. The joy in her tearful voice was enough to melt anyone’s heart.

Ming An held her tighter, unable to understand why Feng Guang could feel such powerful love for a child she had never even met. As for why he had brought up the child himself, it was only because mentioning it calmed her so quickly. As for the so-called “baby,” having her was enough for him. All of his attention and care could only be given to her—no one else would ever receive even a fraction of it.

Ming An’s emotions were a luxury. Even caring for himself had always been difficult. Now that he had poured all of his feelings into her, he did not know how much room remained in his heart to make space for a child.

Though perhaps it could also be said—

It was their child.

“Ming An, when the baby is born, we’ll be a family of three.”

Looking at her small face, still damp with tears, he suddenly abandoned the idea of altering her memory.

The way she gazed at him—with such single-minded happiness—was too radiant to erase.
