Until the day of Freya’s cremation, Karina still felt as if she were living in a dream.
Freya really died!
The Saintess died before awakening!
What would happen to her now? Could she awaken?
What about the Otherworld Demons? What about the continent?
It will be the end in less than two years!
She did not want to die again!
Grady could not believe Freya was dead. He secretly inspected her body openly and discreetly many times. But no matter how he looked, he saw nothing but a corpse with no signs of awakening whatsoever—thoroughly dead.
Lant watched from the dark as Grady came sneaking in, full of hope, only to leave disappointed.
Hah. It was a mere radish. What could a magical novice like him possibly tell?
The king of Alterg had no particular opinion on the death of a marriage-alliance princess. His only regret was that she did not die in Serorida earlier. Otherwise, he could have used it as an excuse to send troops and probe Serorida again.
But for now, Alterg needed to recuperate, so he let it go.
To be honest, this princess was indeed pitiful. She was unfavored in her own country and forced into marriage here. If she wanted to be cremated and travel after death, it didn’t matter. Either way, she could cause no trouble.
When the king of Serorida learned of Freya’s death, he couldn’t say he was happy or sad. The only thing he could not let go of was that this daughter dared to have an affair with a mere knight like Lant! And after death, she even wanted to run away with him!
Traveling with ashes?
What a ridiculous idea!
But he did not have the ability to capture Lant either!
The king of Serorida was full of regret. One wrong step, and everything went wrong!
The fire on the day of the cremation burned brightly. It was a clean blue, pure and clear. Since the ceremony did not follow the usual rules, many curious people attended the funeral and witnessed the scene.
Lant changed out of his knight’s uniform and put on his favorite black clothes. Holding “Freya’s” urn, leading “Lita,” “Kemi,” “Tila,” “Aiden,” and “Yuna,” and leading Light and Snow, he stood at the gates of Alterg’s royal palace to bid Grady farewell.
Grady watched him hold the urn in silence. The other attendants of Freya also wore sorrowful expressions, further confirming in his heart the fact that Freya was gone.
To be honest, he never really cared about this marriage-alliance princess, so he was not that sad. Especially since in the previous life, she had caused him so much trouble. He was already being merciful by not laughing out loud.
The only trouble now was that Freya had died, which meant she was not the Saintess. So in this life, who could the Saintess be? Could it really have become Karina?
“Do you really have to go together?” Grady asked the attendants Freya had brought.
“The princess will always be our princess. We want to stay with her forever,” Lita held back her tears and said firmly.
“Your Highness, thank you very much for your care during this time, and thank you for tolerating our willfulness,” Aiden said respectfully to Grady, bowing in thanks.
Grady sighed and asked Lant, “Do you have any plans for where you’ll go in the future?”
Lant’s deep eyes looked into the distance. “First, I’ll take her to the easternmost coast to see the sea, then to the grasslands, the sea of flowers, the mountains… I’ll show her the entire continent.”
Going east meant he did not intend to head west to the Dark Night Forest to draw the Holy Sword. Grady keenly noted this information.
It seemed he would have to find a chance to go and draw the sword himself. This life was certainly very different from the previous one! Lant and Freya were no longer the Hero and the Saintess!
“Then I wish you a safe journey,” Grady said with rare sincerity.
“Thank you. Farewell.”
With those words, Lant led the group away in the east direction.
They had come with seven people and two horses. When they left, their little princess was now a handful of ashes.
In this life, Freya still did not have a happy ending. But at least she did not have to experience the unsealing of Otherworld Demons more than a year later. That was perhaps a blessing in misfortune?
Grady could not quite put his feelings into words yet somehow felt a twinge of guilt and emotion.
…
At the same time, still on the run, Freya suddenly felt a faint headache. She understood: her radish decoy had been cremated. Lant had succeeded!
It was not in vain that she spent some of her mental energy over the past two days to make the decoy act out that scene. Freya finally breathed a sigh of relief.
The place they needed to go was quite far, almost to the southeasternmost part of the continent. Even with Lant’s teleportation magic item, they had only covered two-thirds of the journey.
But thanks to Lant’s thorough and thoughtful preparation, their group remained safe and had been following the red line all along.
“Leah! I’ve finished washing! Go take a bath! I’ve already laid out your clothes!” Lita walked out of the inn room’s bathroom, drying her still-damp hair.
“Lita, you don’t have to do all this for me,” Freya said with a smile, closing her magic book. She was also getting ready to wash up and sleep.
For safety, just like Lant, she chose a fake name for herself: Leah.
“Oh, I’m just used to it. Who asked you to be so frail before? Of course I had to take good care of you! Now that you have a man, you don’t want me anymore. How sad that would make me…” Lita said and wiped away the non-existent tears.
“All right, stop acting. Lant has completed his mission. He’ll be arriving soon,” Freya said. The thought of seeing him soon made her unable to suppress a smile.
“Okay, okay, go wash up and get to sleep. Look at that smile, so dreamy!” Lita teased her and pushed her into the bathroom.
Soaking in the water, Freya couldn’t help but think of Lant, and her face turned red.
