Bei Yutang looked at the magnificent castle standing below the towering snow-capped mountains. The closer they got, the more they felt the grandeur of the castle.
As they neared it, Ah Hua led her down.
The castle was still a considerable distance away, a distance they had to traverse on foot.
Bei Yutang struggled greatly along the way. Not only was the mountain path difficult, but her body also lacked the strength to support her. Ah Hua noticed her predicament but remained a cold observer, offering no help.
“You’re walking so slowly.”
Bei Yutang ignored her, resting when she needed to and walking slowly as she pleased.
Ah Hua, however, dared not abandon her; after all, Bei Yutang was the one she had chosen to bring her up.
When they reached the city gate, two solemn-faced men appeared silently before the previously deserted entrance. These men were handsome, but their skin was excessively pale.
When Ah Hua saw them, her previous arrogance vanished. She smiled and took out a token from her robes. Upon seeing the token, the two guards slowly opened the gate behind them.
Ah Hua led Bei Yutang into the castle. Upon entering, they first saw a street several tens of meters wide, paved with white marble. Rows of magnificent houses stood around, yet the place was unusually deserted.
Ah Hua remained silent throughout the journey, and Bei Yutang was not one to talk much. The two of them silently entered a magnificent palace. As before, the guards, hidden in the shadows, checked Ah Hua’s token before allowing them to pass.
Every important city gate was subject to inspection. She couldn’t see a single person in the castle; it seemed empty, but in reality, it was heavily guarded, as evidenced by the layers of checks.
The higher up the castle she went, the more rigorous the checks became, indicating that the higher the level of the castle, the higher the status of its inhabitants.
However, they didn’t need to go to the very top, as they weren’t qualified to go there.
After reaching about the third floor, the two of them arrived at a bronze door. The guard at the door, seeing Ah Hua’s token, immediately let them through.
The bronze door slowly opened.
Before Bei Yutang entered, Ah Hua only said one thing to her, “If you’re smart, cling to the Duke’s leg.”
Upon entering the palace, the doors behind them slowly closed.
The vast palace was resplendent in gold and jade. Rows of fist-sized luminous pearls were inlaid in the stone pillars. Looking around, the palace was enormous; there were dozens of pillars, each inlaid with hundreds of luminous pearls.
By this calculation, the palace likely possessed at least a thousand luminous pearls. The soft glow emitted by these pearls illuminated the entire palace, creating a dreamlike and ethereal beauty.
Bei Yutang was initially stunned by the grandeur of the display. Then she noticed six young women inside the palace. As Bei Yutang appeared, all of them turned their gazes to her.
Bei Yutang stepped forward, gave them a slight nod, and sat down to one side.
“Where are you from?” A woman with a baby face asked proactively.
“Xia Du.”
“Xia Du?” The baby-faced girl seemed unfamiliar with it.
She looked at the other women, asking, “Have you ever heard of Xia Du?”
Clearly, none of the women had heard of it.
One woman muttered, “It must be from another world. Look at her attire; it’s different from ours.”
