“Sister Bei, are you studying medicine?” Li Mengmeng asked curiously.
“No.”
Li Mengmeng stared at the books on her desk: “Can I take a look?”
“Go ahead.”
Bei Yutang knew what she was thinking, but didn’t point it out. Right now, their minds were probably still on that ten million. What Bei Yutang didn’t really understand was what her mission was and what her goal was.
Perhaps the original owner died here in her previous life, and the purpose of bringing her here was most likely to catch the murderer.
Li Mengmeng picked up Bei Yutang’s books and carefully flipped through them, but she gave up after a short while. She recognized the words, but she couldn’t understand the combinations.
Professional medical knowledge is very difficult for non-professionals to understand.
Gongsun Mingyue also came to take a look. Seeing that Bei Yutang and Dr. Zhang were both reading medical books, she, like Li Mengmeng, suspected that there was something more to it.
However, Yan Jin revealed their true purpose.
“You’re planning to find the secret in the books about how the murderer made the blood disappear from Old Mr. Huang and Ke Hongyu’s bodies?”
“Yes.” Dr. Zhang nodded.
Li Mengmeng and Gongsun Mingyue, standing to the side, were completely bewildered, never expecting this.
“Sister Bei, you came here just to find this?” Her tone held a hint of unspeakable shock.
“Yes.”
Li Mengmeng immediately lost interest in the library. She had thought that there was some secret inside, but now it was nothing. She had no interest in the books and left after only a few minutes.
Gongsun Mingyue followed, but Yan Jin stayed behind.
“Many hands make light work. Let me see if I can find something.”
Yan Jin found a few books, flipped through a few pages, frowned deeply, and finally closed them helplessly.
“It seems I don’t have the ability to help you.”
Dr. Zhang smiled and said, “It’s alright. This is normal. These books cover rather advanced topics; it’s normal not to understand them.”
Yan Jin, however, looked at Bei Yutang: “Miss Bei, did you study medicine before?”
“No. But I’m personally quite interested in this field, so I read books about it from time to time.”
“I see. I won’t disturb you any longer.”
After Yan Jin left, Dr. Zhang glanced at Bei Yutang, a hint of inquiry in his eyes.
At 6:10 PM, Dr. Zhang closed the books.
“Miss Bei, it’s getting late. It’s time to go downstairs for dinner.”
Dr. Zhang, not wanting her to bring the food to the table again, added, “While finding answers is important, our own health is equally important. You’ve been reading all day, so it’s time to rest.”
Bei Yutang closed her book: “Okay.”
As they went downstairs, Bei Yutang suddenly stopped, turning her head sharply behind her. Behind her was a long corridor; the wall lamps, which had been shining brightly, were now off.
Dr. Zhang, seeing her suddenly stop, followed her gaze, only to find complete darkness behind her, nothing visible.
“What’s wrong?”
Bei Yutang whispered, “Did you feel like someone was watching us from behind?”
Dr. Zhang’s face paled instantly. Looking back at the dark corridor, he felt a chill run down his spine, as if something unclean might rush out at any moment.
“Are you…are you too tired?”
