“Has anyone gone to the library?” Bei Yutang asked.
“No.” Ah Hua said softly.
“Mr. Feng went to the shooting range, Miss Li and Miss Gongsun went to the swimming pool, and Mr. Zhang went to the gym.”
“Didn’t Yan Jin go anywhere?”
“Yes. Mr. Yan and Mr. Huang are resting inside.”
After saying this, the two of them didn’t speak again.
For a moment, only the soft sound of footsteps could be heard in the long corridor. The surroundings were unusually quiet, as if only those faint footsteps could be heard in the world.
When the two of them stood in front of a huge door, she saw Ah Hua take a key from her waist and open the door to the library.
“This door has always been locked?” Bei Yutang asked.
“Yes.”
Ah Hua opened the door. The seemingly heavy door was easily pushed open by her.
“Miss Bei, you are welcome to browse here. However, you cannot take any books out of this library.” Ah Hua instructed.
Then, seemingly concerned, she reiterated, “Remember, you cannot take any books out of the library.”
“Why can’t I take them out? As long as I don’t take them out of the castle, it’s fine, right?” Bei Yutang asked casually.
Ah Hua explained, “It’s the Master’s rule.”
“Okay, I understand.”
After Ah Hua left, Bei Yutang looked at the library before her, feeling a sense of awe. The spiral bookshelves stretched endlessly, seemingly without end.
There were so many books. It felt like she could never read all of them in a lifetime.
Bei Yutang began searching through the categories on the shelves, finally finding a book on a shelf about criminal psychology. She took it down and began to read.
Time passed slowly, and the vast library was unusually quiet, as if the whole world had fallen asleep.
Suddenly, a cool breeze swept through, causing Bei Yutang to instinctively pull her arms in. But as her hand touched her arm, her body stiffened slightly, her entire being tensing.
She abruptly looked up, her sharp gaze sweeping across the vast library. She noticed a crack in a window not far away, through which the cold wind was blowing in.
Bei Yutang walked over, closed the window, and sat back down on the sofa to continue reading. She turned the pages of book after book, the crisp sound of pages turning filling the large library.
Bei Yutang looked at the rows of medical books on the shelves with great interest. If circumstances allowed, she would definitely read them all.
As night faded and dawn broke, Bei Yutang finally put down her book, stood up, stretched, and rubbed her slightly stiff arms and shoulders.
Bei Yutang looked up at the wall clock in the library; it was already 6:10 AM.
She stood up and put the books she had browsed through the night before back in their original places.
Bei Yutang left the library. As soon as she stepped out, the heavy door behind her closed automatically. The lights in the corridor seemed to sense her presence, instantly turning on.
She returned to her room, washed up, and then went downstairs.
When she came downstairs, she saw Yan Jin and Dr. Zhang having morning tea in the lobby.
“Good morning.” Bei Yutang greeted them.
“Miss Bei, you’re up so early, too.” Yan Jin said with a smile.
Dr. Zhang noticed a slight redness in her eyes: “Did you not sleep well last night?”
