Muttering quietly, soft rustling sounds filled the air.
“Li Changshou” and Ling’e stood before Youqin Xuanya. Ling’e and Youqin Xuanya whispered back and forth, while “Li Changshou” simply nodded or shook his head lightly.
In reality, it was “Li Changshou” secretly using voice transmission, while subtly handing a porcelain vial to Youqin Xuanya…
“Senior Brother Changshou, why aren’t you stepping forward to handle this yourself?”
Youqin Xuanya replied via voice transmission, “I know you don’t wish to be burdened by fame, Senior Brother, but credit that belongs to you should rightfully be yours.”
“Li Changshou” smiled and sent back, “Junior Sister Youqin, if you could see what I see and hear what I hear, you wouldn’t be asking that.”
Youqin Xuanya paused for a moment, clearly stunned.
She gazed at Li Changshou, then at the senior brother who always wore a warm smile, and gave a slight nod.
It seemed… she understood something.
Although Li Changshou himself wasn’t quite sure what exactly she had understood…
Still, it seemed like she had figured something out.
Li Changshou thought to himself that he was starting to grasp a few tricks when dealing with this Junior Sister Youqin.
Many disciples around them had noticed this little scene, though none could hear what the three were whispering about.
“Who’s that senior?”
“That’s Blue Ling’e’s senior brother. Didn’t he duel that Golden Ao Island cultivator and the Dragon Palace prince before?”
“Oh… the wolf-tooth club! How could I have forgotten that? My memory’s hopeless.”
Li Changshou transmitted, “Junior Sister Youqin, time is of the essence. The enemy could find us at any moment.”
Youqin Xuanya quickly nodded, flew into the air with her greatsword on her back, and looked down at the messy crowd below.
She called out loudly, “Everyone, time is short, please listen!
I have a way to repel the enemy.
The attackers are riding a roc and have found the leyline here. We can’t escape now!”
The disciples below just looked up at her in silence.
Fortunately, Youqin Xuanya was standing on a cloud crafted by Li Changshou that no one could see through…
She pulled out a porcelain vial and shouted:
“Please look, everyone! This is a supreme poison pill bestowed by Elder Wan Linjun, capable of killing even celestial immortals!
In a moment, I, along with a few senior brothers and sisters, will use this to set up a formation and strike back at the enemy.
I ask that you all retreat into the underground cavern and wait near the leyline.
Elders, I also beg you to listen!
If we fail to take down the enemy, it will fall to you to fight for your lives and protect the disciples!”
Youqin Xuanya’s words were passionate, rising and falling with sincerity and courage.
If Li Changshou hadn’t already planned the entire battle…
If he hadn’t already gauged the strength of the invading celestial-level cultivator during the earlier battle at the mountain gate, giving him 99.9% confidence of victory…
Even he might have been moved by her speech.
(As for that lingering 0.1% risk? That’s reserved, as always, for the unpredictable whims of the Heavenly Dao.)
You must always respect the Heavenly Dao!
Some of the elders immediately stood up, offering to use the poison themselves.
Elder Tian said, “Xuanya, fighting a celestial isn’t a trivial matter—”
“Elder!” Youqin Xuanya’s eyes shone with starlight as she said firmly, “Please trust me!”
“This…”
“Xuanya, Elder Tian and I will stay behind with you to assist. How about that?” said another True Immortal elder. “We’ll protect the disciples and also set up a secondary formation inside the cavern, just in case.”
Youqin Xuanya thought for a moment, then heard Li Changshou’s voice transmission and quickly agreed.
With a few words, the elders organized the disciples, who once again hurried deeper into the valley toward the underground cavern.
Today, the disciples who had not yet ascended to immortality truly seemed a little bedraggled.
In a nearby corner, Ling’e muttered under her breath, “This works too?”
“Li Changshou” stood with his hands behind his back and transmitted, “Some people and some matters can’t be judged by common sense.”
Ling’e looked thoughtful, then glanced up at her senior brother and whispered:
“And you, Senior Brother?”
“Stay serious. We still have a lot of trouble ahead,” Li Changshou transmitted back, stepping sideways to avoid the line of sight toward the cavern.
“Ling’e, make sure you stick close to me later. Don’t wander off.”
“Mm!” Ling’e quickly reached out and lightly tugged on the hem of his robe. Even in danger, a slight blush crept onto her cheeks.
Li Changshou calmly transmitted, “Three rules.”
“Hmph,” Ling’e huffed and stepped to the side, crossing her hands behind her back and pretending not to be too familiar with him.
At a time like this, no one paid much attention to a pretty but low-cultivation female disciple.
Several disciples ran up to Youqin Xuanya, eager to stay behind and fight.
But remembering Li Changshou’s instructions, Youqin Xuanya refused them one by one, eventually using the excuse that “Little Qiong Peak disciples are skilled in earth techniques” to keep only Li Changshou and Ling’e.
Not long after, the elders combined their strength to quickly set up a concealment array at the cavern entrance.
This array would also block any external probes into the cavern…
The enemy could arrive at any moment, probably delayed because they were following the leyline and searching carefully.
(Or… maybe they had other plans? Li Changshou reminded himself to stay vigilant.)
He glanced at Ling’e and continued giving silent instructions to Youqin Xuanya.
Since he had decided to use Junior Sister Youqin as a “tool person,” he might as well get the maximum value out of it…
Later, he’d make sure to clean up any traces to protect her.
Meanwhile, two True Immortal-level outer affairs elders, along with three disciples, flew out of the valley, deliberately making themselves visible on a gentle slope nearby to draw attention.
This was a deliberate bait for the enemy.
One elder glanced back at Li Changshou and Ling’e, wanting to say something, but in the end could only sigh softly:
“You two are skilled in earth techniques. If things go wrong, prioritize saving yourselves.”
Li Changshou and Ling’e exchanged a glance and bowed their heads respectfully.
Soon, two array formations—one for trapping, one for protection—were properly set up on the slope.
The two True Immortal elders even checked the poison pill carefully.
Sure enough, it was a real product of Elder Wan Linjun’s making; when they examined it, their spiritual senses tingled alarmingly, confirming it was something extraordinary.
(Though, in truth, it was just a special knockout drug—Mind-Drunken Soul Powder.)
Still, seeing this, the elders’ eyes brightened a little with hope instead of grim determination…
While they were setting up, Li Changshou and Ling’e hid behind a large rock, his mind split between watching the elders and monitoring the main battle happening back at the sect’s mountain gate.
The burly paper figure appeared for the second time, but the results were less than ideal.
By now, the blood mosquito puppets had caught on. Instead of immediately giving chase, they launched a frenzied assault on Po Tian Peak.
After all, the previous group of “Daoists” had disappeared without a trace, wiped out on a nearby peak. Anyone with half a brain could sense something fishy.
