“It’s just a beard… You nearly gave me a heart attack, Uncle!”
Jiujiu retrieved the wooden ladle into her hand, took another sniff at the liquor in the nearby jar, and muttered with lingering fear, “For a moment, I thought your Yang energy was out of balance, and you’d turned into something neither man nor woman.”
Li Changshou chuckled and shook his head. He had always admired his little martial uncle’s unique way of thinking.
“Uncle, once I finish refining this batch of pills today, I’ll be going into seclusion for six months to a year to cultivate the True Flame of Samadhi.
I’ve already prepared a year’s worth of liquor for you in advance, but drinking too much of this stuff isn’t good for you. You should take it in moderation.
It’s in the usual spot, right next to that jar of medicinal wine.”
“Six months, huh?”
Jiujiu put away a few wine flasks, casually placed the empty ones back on the shelf, and then walked over with her hands behind her back, giving him a serious reminder:
“Even though the True Flame of Samadhi can be cultivated from the Void Return Realm onward, it requires burning one’s essence, energy, and spirit to condense the flame seed at the beginning!
Don’t rush it. If you overdo it and end up exhausting your vitality, leaving yourself drained in both body and spirit, it’ll be a disaster!”
Li Changshou nodded with a smile and continued sorting the medicinal herbs.
Jiujiu, feeling a little bored, yawned and muttered, “I’ve been stuck at a bottleneck in my cultivation for the past few years. Breaking through has been a hassle.
But this has happened before. Sometimes, I get stuck for a few years, and then, out of nowhere, I break through.
After that, I’ll probably have to go into seclusion for several years—maybe even decades. You might not see your martial uncle for a long time.”
Li Changshou chuckled, “Uncle, you’ve switched to cultivating the Dao of Wu Wei (Non-Action), haven’t you?”
“Yeah,” Jiujiu pulled a bamboo chair over, sat down by the table, and rested her chin on her arms, looking a little listless. “Once you become an immortal, you can cultivate the Dao of Wu Wei too. If your aptitude is good enough, you can start at the Void Return Realm.
Too bad…
Oh, right, I heard from Fifth Senior Brother that your master has started studying the Wu Wei Dao as well.”
“Mm, two months ago, he received the scripture from an inner sect steward,” Li Changshou replied casually. “Honestly, with your temperament, Uncle, the Dao of Wu Wei suits you perfectly—no force, no excess pursuit.”
Jiujiu blinked. “Little Changshou, why do you sound just like our master?”
Li Changshou replied, “Senior Uncle Jiuwu gave me a copy of the first volume of the Wu Wei scripture before. These principles are all in there.”
“Oh, so that’s why.”
Jiujiu murmured to herself and sat quietly by the side, watching Li Changshou organize the herbs. Before she knew it, she had drifted off…
A moment later—
“Xiao Shoushou… You’re kinda good-looking… Hehehe… How did I not notice before?”
“Hmm?”
Li Changshou, who was about to start refining the pills, turned his head and saw that his martial uncle had fallen asleep on the table, mumbling in her dreams.
After ascending to immortality, an immortal’s body remains flawless. Even though his little martial uncle never took care of her mid-length hair, it was still silky smooth and jet black.
With only a simple phoenix-tail braid, no jewelry, and no makeup, she exuded a pure and simple charm.
As she slept, the phrase “skin like jade, spirit as clear as crystal” seemed like a perfect description of her.
Unfortunately, when she was awake, she was far too unruly.
Li Changshou shook his head with a smile, quietly left the alchemy room, and went outside to watch the little spirit fish swimming in the Yin-Yang-shaped pond, waiting for Jiujiu to wake up.
After all, he needed her help. Borrowing Jiujiu’s refined immortal power to aid in pill refinement—he couldn’t afford to be too harsh on her.
Two days later.
After finishing the pill refinement, Li Changshou sealed the alchemy room and only left the formation active within a three-mile radius.
After seeing Jiujiu off, he went to find Ling’e to inform her about his upcoming seclusion.
This time, his goal was to fully condense the flame seed of the True Flame of Samadhi, which would take about six months.
At the time, Ling’e was practicing her medicine-sprinkling techniques under a willow tree, dressed in loose-fitting training robes. She was puzzled.
“Senior Brother, aren’t you going to seclude yourself in the alchemy room this time?”
“Cultivating the True Flame of Samadhi tends to cause explosions,” Li Changshou laughed. “I’ll build a small wooden raft and go into seclusion on the lake instead—it’ll be safer that way.”
Ling’e blinked, hesitating as if she wanted to say something.
Li Changshou placed a few porcelain bottles in her hands and explained their uses and dosages.
After some thought, she finally spoke in a small voice:
“Senior Brother, shouldn’t the True Flame of Samadhi… be kept secret?
Isn’t this technique incredibly powerful?”
Li Changshou gently tapped her forehead—of course, without using any force.
Though they were face-to-face, he still used voice transmission to explain carefully:
“Did you already forget everything I taught you just because our lessons stopped for a few years?
The True Flame of Samadhi was bestowed upon me by Martial Uncle Jiuwu and Jiujiu’s master. If I deliberately hide it and never use it, that would only make people more suspicious.
A real trump card isn’t just something powerful—it’s something no one can anticipate, something that won’t be linked to you based on your usual behavior.”
Ling’e stuck out her tongue and obediently listened.
Li Changshou then took out two more bottles and transmitted, “Leave these at Master’s door. They’re special immortal pills I refined for him—they can purify his essence and remove impurities.
Don’t you dare sneak a taste? The potency would overwhelm you.”
Ling’e’s eyes lit up. “Then… will Master be able to…”
“Unlikely.”
Li Changshou shook his head and sighed softly, then strolled into the forest to begin constructing his raft.
Ling’e uncorked a jade bottle and took a sniff—pure spiritual energy instantly surged over her.
She inhaled slightly and immediately felt lightheaded. Dizzy, hurried back to her room to meditate and absorb the energy.
Li Changshou chuckled at the sight, then headed into the old forest, rolling up his sleeves to get to work.
Two days later…
“Huh? What’s that noise?”
Ling’e, just waking up from her meditation, looked out the wooden window.
Her small mouth parted slightly in surprise, and she gasped a few times, her delicate forehead covered in exasperated lines…
“I’ll make a small raft,” her senior brother had said.
Yet on the lake, what had just been launched was a five-hundred-foot-long “simple” multi-story boat.
Ling’e couldn’t help but press a hand to her forehead.
“Does Senior Brother… have some kind of misunderstanding about the word ‘small’?”
She looked down at the curves outlined by her training robe and twitched the corner of her lips.
“Ugh, my stupid senior brother… He’s been influenced by Martial Uncle Jiujiu and lost all sense of normal scale!”
