The city lord truly deserves to be called a direct person. It’s like opening the fridge and stuffing an elephant inside—skipping all the processes, only focusing on the simple and direct result.
Harriet leaned back. “But what’s the use of getting the body? The heart.” She pointed to her chest. “Getting this part is the key. What do you think, city lord?”
The city lord was somewhat silent, shrugging helplessly. “That makes some sense, but what’s the point of the heart? Are we going to dig it out and stew it for food? Never mind, having the body is good enough, at least it tastes nice.”
Everyone: “…”
Bandner: “!!!” Poor old mate, Rennie.
Cranberry is a women’s domain, and men here are practically unnecessary. The information about the city lord suffering from elemental deficiency was gathered by a few people after they arrived at Cranberry. And Ryan and the others just happened to have injections for treating the deficiency. The formula for these injections is fully controlled by the government; they can’t be obtained in the civilian market. To get an injection, one must register (unless they have connections like Ryan does). Real-name registration is too difficult for pirates, even for pirate leaders. The Lord of Cranberry has considered other methods, but so far, none have worked. The injections Ryan and the others brought are of great appeal to the city lord.
After several rounds of back-and-forth between Harriet and the city lord, the city lord finally agreed to bring Rennie out. Five or six minutes later, Rennie, the buzz-cut man, appeared. Bandner excitedly stepped forward but couldn’t get close because of the city lord’s guards standing by. He quietly asked Rennie, “Rennie, how do you feel?”
Rennie was a stoic buzz-cut tough guy. His facial muscles twitched slightly, and after a faint smile, he spoke in a hoarse voice: “I’m fine.” Staying alive was the best thing, and as for the rest… never mind, no need to say more.
Bandner understood the unsaid words in Rennie’s statement and solemnly nodded to him. They would definitely be able to rescue Rennie.
Upon seeing the person who needed rescuing, Harriet didn’t fully relax. Instead, she straightened her posture and looked at the city lord, saying, “Let’s settle the deal.”
The city lord shook her head. “The deal is already done.”
Harriet: “What do you mean, city lord?”
The city lord smiled, full of charm. “You wanted to see Rennie, and I’ve brought him out. Isn’t the deal already completed?” She waved her hand, and naturally, one of her subordinates stepped forward to retrieve the box containing the injection.
Harriet laughed loudly. “The city lord thinks she can play others for fools! She really thinks too highly of herself.”
Behind her, Ryan and the others drew their weapons, aiming them at the city lord and the six subordinates in the room. The subordinates immediately became alert, weapons drawn, facing each other in a standoff. The atmosphere grew tense, and the battle was about to erupt.
The city lord leisurely leaned back on the sofa, unhurried, and said, “That should be something I say to you. You really think too highly of yourselves.”
This was her domain. With a single order, countless troops could pour in, and a single kick could take out the witch Hart and her group.
“Not necessarily!”
As soon as Harriet’s words fell, her side sprang into action. At this moment, the soldiers’ superb individual skills became evident. They didn’t need any orders, and with their exceptional teamwork, they silently coordinated and completed their tasks. In just ten minutes or so, the standoff ended, and they wiped out the enemy, including the city lord.
“Hmph, I’ve never liked her face!” Harriet stood up from the city lord’s body, shaking the blood off her hands, which had splattered when she slit the city lord’s throat. The city lord was skilled, but compared to the trained regular soldiers, she was lacking. “Tsk, city lord, huh? She was taken down in just a few moves by me. It’s that simple.”
Fan Lanting said coldly, “So simple, huh? Then whose thigh was injured? Such a long wound, must hurt a lot.”
Harriet stubbornly retorted, “It was an accident, I was careless!”
Derrick threw a bottle of wound-covering spray towards Harriet. “Remember the lesson, being careless can cost you your life.”
“Yes.” Harriet no longer had the arrogance from before. The leadership position had shifted to Derrick’s hands. During the escape, she would follow his command.
Ryan stood by the door, his fingers pressing on it. A jamming device was under his fingertips. He turned to look at everyone and said, “Once the door opens, we must leave the underground as quickly as possible and return to the surface at top speed. My detector has already provided feedback on the tunnel.”
“Move at top speed!” Derrick glanced at the trembling Bandner and the expressionless Rennie. “Don’t slow us down.”
Bandner nervously swallowed, quickly nodding. “Mm-hmm, definitely won’t slow you down.” He had never expected that Ryan and the others would directly kill the city lord. What would happen next? Would they blow up Cranberry? “You’re too bold, too impulsive. The Cranberry forces aren’t only controlled by the city lord. The deputy city lord, who has a very close relationship with her, can also give orders. If the deputy city lord finds out her sister is dead, she will stop at nothing to kill us! We’re underground here, like sitting ducks in a jar, ready for anyone to grab us.”
“If we spent less time talking, we’d already be out of here.” Harriet gritted her teeth as she dealt with her wound. This treatment wasn’t for healing, but to disguise the injury, making sure no one could see any signs of it.
Ryan cleared his throat lightly, drawing everyone’s attention, then extended his palm to the group. With each passing second, he retracted one finger until his hand formed a fist. The moment his fist closed, the door suddenly opened, and the noise from outside rushed in. Harriet swaggered out, while the others silently followed behind her. Derrick, the last to leave, quietly closed the door, shutting the room’s bloodshed behind him.
They maintained normal expressions, but their footsteps were incredibly fast as they exited. Once in the hallway, they showed no intention of concealing their speed, and they began to run at full force. The journey that normally took over thirty minutes was completed in less than seven, and the elevator was already waiting for them.
Bandner stared, dumbfounded. “Do you have an inside man?!” No wonder they were so arrogant…
The elevator doors opened, and Ryan walked in, saying, “Not an inside man, it’s science.”
He had installed an inconspicuous jammer in the elevator, taking control of it. Whenever they needed it, the elevator would appear, without any middlemen wasting time.
Everyone entered, and the person inside—an individual with a garlic-shaped nose—was stunned, unable to respond. “Y-you… you guys…”
“Get ready, we’re setting off.” Ryan opened his personal terminal and did some simple operations. After the elevator moved up a couple of times with a loud clunk, it suddenly accelerated, going more than ten times faster than when they came. The people in the elevator were immediately slammed to the ground due to inertia, and those who couldn’t adjust let out loud screams, with the manager being the loudest. This highlighted the superior physical fitness of the soldiers, who remained calm and even had the time to verbally stimulate what would happen next. They had already arranged for Carrie to wait outside the little red house and, after exiting, head straight for the exit!
Far below the elevator, in the depths that couldn’t be accurately described by distance, the door to the small hall had been closed for a long time. The attendants sensed something was wrong and approached to check. After knocking twice, they respectfully and cautiously called out, “City lord, is there anything you need to instruct?” The door had a voice transmission device, and pressing it would allow communication with the inside.
The attendant, preparing to be scolded, ducked his head and waited, but after five or six minutes, no sound came from inside. He sensed something was off and raised his voice, “City lord, I apologize.” Forcing the door open, he was stunned the moment it swung open, then screamed in shock, “Ahh, the city lord has been killed!!!”
Ryan had controlled the elevator, adjusting the speed to its maximum. The journey was shortened, and they reached the surface in ten minutes. The elevator doors opened, and the well-trained soldiers charged out, followed by a barely conscious Bandner and Rennie. After them came the completely limp manager. The garlic-nosed attendant was trying to smile but couldn’t, her face smeared with snot and tears. “There’s not just one exit from the Elysium World,” she said with a twisted expression. “No one’s getting away, everyone’s going to die.”
Ryan spoke without turning his head, “I know, that’s why we need to move fast.” If the Elysium World had noticed something was wrong, they would have immediately informed the guards of the underground city. They had to hurry.
“The guards have already mobilized!” Bandner shouted loudly. He had grown up in a pirate den, sure, but he’d never experienced anything this intense.
“Knowing they’re coming, what are we waiting for? Move!” Derrick yelled angrily.
The pursuers continued to appear, but Ryan and his group reached the exit at the fastest speed. With Ryan’s control, the aircraft was already waiting. The group entered one after another, and before the underground city guards could arrive, the aircraft powered up.
“The number of detectors is limited, and their lifespan isn’t enough to map out the entire tunnel, so I just controlled an aircraft with pinpoint capabilities. The effect is pretty good.” Ryan, controlling the aircraft, was quite satisfied with his actions.
“Ahh, then why don’t you slow down? We’re just regular people!” Bandner felt like his internal organs had shifted, and his insides were about to come out of his mouth.
Harriet, who was putting on her clothes, mocked, “Is this the quality of pirates?”
Bandner, holding back his nausea, said, “Pirates are a ragtag group, how can we compare to you guys?” Besides, he hadn’t gotten a speck of blood on his hands, so he didn’t really count as a true pirate. “There are pursuers behind, they’re going to catch up.”
“They won’t catch up.” Ryan had further increased the speed. The aircraft had a safety speed limit, but Ryan had turned it off, allowing him to freely adjust the speed.
Once they burst out of the underground passage, the snowflakes outside grew even heavier, completely obscuring their sense of direction. The road ahead was hard to find, and the pursuers were coming in hot from behind. In a soldier’s dictionary, there’s no question of ‘What to do?’—only ‘Keep moving forward. Fight, fight, fight.’
“Now we have two options?”
“Why two?” Derrick shouted loudly while shooting outward.
“I have two coordinates: one is for our starship, 260 kilometers away, and the other is for Bandner’s starship, 60 kilometers away.” As for the situation with the latter, he didn’t know all the details yet, but for convenience, their starship didn’t have many weapons.
Bandner blurted out, “How do you have the coordinates for our starship?”
This question was temporarily irrelevant. Derrick asked Bandner, “How is the equipment on your starship?”
“Not bad.” Bandner, slightly humble by nature, responded, but then thought, ‘We’re running for our lives now, what’s the point of being humble?’ and immediately corrected himself, “It’s great, I’ve equipped it with weapons and fuel!”
“I’ve seen it; it looks pretty good from the outside,” Carrie added.
Bandner nodded confidently, “Inside is fine too. I added fuel and weapons.” During the search for Rennie, no time was wasted, and equipping the starship was necessary.
Derrick made a decision, “Let’s go for theirs.”
Ryan shared the same thought.
