MPWATMBC Chapter 126

Extra Story — The Children

At the entrance of Sapphire Prime High School in the Red Coral Starfield, many parents were already waiting eagerly for the examinees to come out. Among the crowd, three children stood out the most—two teenage boys, around fifteen or sixteen, and a chubby little girl just over a year old. Their delicate features and exquisite looks made them natural focal points under the sunlight, drawing countless gazes.

“Big brother.”

The fair and adorable little girl was still unsteady on her feet. Refusing to sit in the stroller, she insisted on being carried by her second brother. Her tiny hands pushed against his hat, not wanting it to block her view, while her black, grape-like eyes eagerly searched the crowd emerging from the school, hoping to spot the big brother she missed so much.

Salier Dalton gently pinched his sister’s chubby hand, stopping her from pushing the hat away. “Qin Qin, just wait a little longer. Big brother will be out soon.”

Qin Qin let out a soft “Oh,” but she still stretched her neck, scanning the distance, afraid she might miss seeing him.

Beside them, the slightly chubby teenager, Remy Dalton, was crouching on the ground, fiddling with some mechanical parts while two small robots projected a blueprint in the air in front of him.

“Yuan Chu, enlarge this section for me.”

A black little robot responded in a flat, monotonous voice, “Insufficient resolution. This is the maximum magnification possible.”

Remy slumped his shoulders in frustration. “Fine. I guess I shouldn’t expect too much from a blueprint bought at a flea market. Code Zero, simulate the next steps for me. I need to check if I’m doing this right.”

Code Zero responded, “Understood.”

Salier sighed helplessly at his younger brother. “Remy, we’re here to pick up big brother today. Can you focus a little? You can tinker with those parts when we get home.”

Remy didn’t even lift his head. “Don’t worry, second brother. Big brother is definitely passing the exam—it’s a piece of cake for him. If he wasn’t curious about experiencing the college entrance exam and seeing what the test papers look like, he wouldn’t have even bothered coming here. He could have just accepted direct admission to the empire’s top school, and we wouldn’t have to stand here under the sun.”

Salier was momentarily at a loss for words. “Big brother wants to prove himself through his own abilities—”

Remy shrugged. “Out of hundreds of billions of people in the empire, only a handful—maybe ten or so—get direct admission to the Imperial Mecha Research Academy each year. That already proves his ability.”

The two brothers suddenly exchanged looks and sighed in unison. “A genius’s way of thinking… we just don’t get it.”

Qin Qin mimicked them, letting out a tiny sigh. “Aiyo.”

Both brothers burst into laughter, their hearts filling with the same thought: Our little sister is way too cute.

These three children were none other than Ryan and Auston’s beloved kids. Time had flown by, and in the blink of an eye, Tuantuan had grown up, their second son, Manman, had turned into a young man, and their third child had even outgrown his older brothers in stature. The youngest, a little girl, was showered with boundless love and affection.

She had not had an easy start. Though she and Remy were fraternal twins, a month after being placed in the gestation pod, her growth had unexpectedly stopped. Ryan and Auston refused to give up on her, insisting that the doctors transfer her into a specialized gestation chamber for preservation. After more than a decade of waiting, medical technology had advanced significantly, allowing them to restart the gestation process. Amidst their parents’ anxious anticipation, the little girl was successfully awakened and resumed growing.

A little over a year ago, Qin Qin was born—a very adorable little girl. The doctors had explained that her growth process was somewhat different from the norm and that she might have slight delays in cognitive development and motor coordination. Ryan and Auston felt a heavy weight in their hearts and couldn’t help but dote on her even more. The other children, already grown, didn’t see anything wrong with their fathers’ favoritism—because they, too, adored their little sister.

Surrounded by love and care, little Qin Qin had now reached fifteen months. She wasn’t as quick-witted as her brothers had been at her age, but she was an incredibly cute, lively, and kind baby—especially attached to the first person she saw upon opening her eyes: her eldest brother.

“Big brother! Big brother!” Suddenly, Qin Qin started bouncing in Salier’s arms, struggling to get down.

“What is it, Qin Qin?” Salier lifted his head to look forward, but he didn’t see their eldest brother anywhere.

“Big brother!” Qin Qin pointed ahead with her chubby little hand, her tone full of certainty.

Salier still couldn’t spot him. He raised a leg and nudged his younger brother, who was still squatting on the ground. “Remy, stand up and help me look.”

Remy had no choice but to stand up slowly and look ahead. There was no sign of their eldest brother in the crowd. He shrugged and said, “I don’t see him. Qin Qin is probably just missing him. Let’s wait a bit. If big brother sees us, he’ll come over on his own.”

Qin Qin pouted unhappily. Her two brothers were too passive. “Down!”

Salier refused to let her go. “There are too many people. You might get knocked over.”

Qin Qin protested, “No, down!”

Salier stood firm. He couldn’t just let his little sister do whatever she wanted—what if she got hurt in the crowd?

Qin Qin pursed her lips and wriggled in her second brother’s arms. Salier couldn’t hold onto her properly and had to crouch down, encircling her soft little belly to let her feet touch the ground. The moment her tiny feet landed, Qin Qin beamed happily. But then, she immediately started prying at her brother’s fingers—she wanted to go! Her big brother was right ahead!

Salier sighed helplessly. “Qin Qin…”

Qin Qin insisted, “Big brother is here!”

Salier frowned. “Big brother hasn’t come out yet.”

Qin Qin protested stubbornly, “He is!”

Remy crouched down beside them, propping his chin on his hand. “Just take her to look for him. She won’t settle down otherwise. Ugh, I’m so tired. Why isn’t big brother out yet?”

Salier felt a headache coming on. Only their eldest brother could rein in these two with just a single look. As for him? He was too soft-hearted to control them.

Now that she was free, Qin Qin grasped her second brother’s fingers and toddled forward unsteadily. Salier bent down to follow her, while Remy crossed his arms and trailed behind them. The two small robots flanked Qin Qin on either side—no one was allowed to harm the little princess of the Dalton family.

This unusual sight drew even more attention. Countless examinees and parents turned to look, and some even joked, “That little girl is so adorable. I really want to steal her away.”

Of course, anyone who said that would immediately receive sharp, wary gazes from Salier and Remy. Whether it was a joke or not, they took every word seriously.

Qin Qin “dragged” her brother along, huffing and puffing as she marched forward, as if she were equipped with a natural radar guiding her straight toward their eldest brother.

Even in the interstellar era, the college entrance examination persisted. It remained a fair and just pathway for ordinary people to compete for opportunities. The privileged had always existed—some people’s starting lines were the finish lines of those who struggled their whole lives. But the entrance exam provided a level playing field, where commoners could compete with the elite.

The once-young boy of eighteen was rarely called by his childhood nickname, Tuantuan, anymore. As Bennett Dalton strode forward, his expression was cold and distant, yet that didn’t stop a crowd from gathering around him. They called his name eagerly, voices filled with admiration and reverence. All kinds of gazes—worshipful, awed—fell upon him, but Bennett remained as composed as his fathers had always been, unmoved by praise or scrutiny.

Someone brought up the final math problem, asking for the answer.

Bennett casually gave a number. The full solution was too long to explain.

The person who asked gasped. “How is that possible? Wasn’t it supposed to be square root of 2?”

Bennett said firmly, “It’s not.” He was that confident.

The last math problem was always the hardest—few could solve it, and even fewer could get the correct answer. This was where scores were truly separated.

“Impossible! We all got square root of 2!”

The murmurs of doubt buzzed around him, but Bennett remained unfazed. He calmly explained, “If your answer is square root of 2, then you must have overlooked the words ‘less than’ in the problem statement. This was a question combining algebra and solid geometry. The auxiliary line needed to account for the circumference of the circle…”

A proctor emerging from the teaching building overheard him and instinctively started calculating in his head. He was a math teacher and had proctored the final exam, working through the problems while supervising. His own answer had also been square root of 2. At the time, he had thought that this year’s test wasn’t particularly difficult and that the scores wouldn’t vary too much.

But now, hearing Bennett Dalton’s explanation, he suddenly realized his mistake. He started recalculating—only to find that his previous method had to be completely scrapped. The correct derivation was far more complex, even involving elements of advanced mathematics…

Had the examiners lost their minds?!

Bennett looked at the crowd around him and said, “There’s no point in checking answers now. Whether you got it right or wrong, there’s no going back. Instead of arguing here, why not head home? Your scores will be released in a week—have you thought about your college preferences? Have you planned for your future? Do you have a preliminary understanding of what you want in life? The competition ahead is far greater than just high school rankings. Have you considered learning something new to broaden your skills?”

With his barrage of questions, the students who had never seriously planned their futures suddenly lowered their heads, shivering. A meticulous planner like Bennett was terrifying.

“No? Then go think about it.”

He strode forward, and the crowd instinctively parted for him.

A small, soft squeal pierced the air—it was Qin Qin.

She let out a delighted cry—she knew it! Big Brother was right ahead!

“Breaking free” from Second Brother’s grip, Qin Qin spread her tiny arms wide and dashed forward.

“Big Brother~!”

The moment she saw Bennett, it was as if Second and Third Brother ceased to exist.

Salier let go of her hand, allowing her to run. He knew Big Brother wouldn’t let her go too far.

Sure enough, the ever-doting Bennett quickly stepped forward, scooping his little sister into his arms. The tiny girl, soft and chubby like a strawberry daifuku, nestled perfectly in his embrace.

“Qin Qin, how are you?”

And then—Bennett, usually so cool and detached, smiled.

Many people watching were utterly mesmerized.

Qin Qin wrapped her tiny arms around Big Brother’s neck and rubbed against him affectionately. “Big Brother~”

Bennett held her securely. “The exams are over. We can go back to the plantation star and wait for Dad and Papa to finish their patrol before heading home. Big Brother will take you flying on Da Fu.”

Qin Qin nodded eagerly. “Mm-hmm!”

After a few steps, Bennett caught sight of his two younger brothers. Unlike the warmth he showed his sister, he was strict with them, upholding his role as the eldest brother. His smile disappeared as he looked at Saliér and Remy. “Let’s go.”

The two brothers, who greatly respected their eldest sibling—because he was the eldest, because he was brilliant, because he was just that capable—immediately responded in unison. “Yes.”

As the four siblings walked forward, the crowd naturally parted for them.

A sweet, soft voice suddenly piped up. “Big Brother, hungry-hungry.”

Bennett’s usually cool voice turned gentle as he spoke to his little sister. “Qin Qin, just wait a little. We’ll go eat soon.”

Bennett glanced at the time—still a while before dinner.

Qin Qin tugged at his collar, her voice soft and expectant. “Cake. Big Brother makes it.”

Bennett nodded. “Alright, when we get home, Big Brother will make you a cake. Should I put strawberries on top?”

Qin Qin’s eyes sparkled. “Mm-hmm!”

A chorus of dramatic wails erupted from the surrounding students.

“Waaahhh, I want to eat a cake made by Bennett too!”

“Bennett can bake? No way, is the sun rising from the west tomorrow?”

“Hey, younger siblings, you guys just lost a sister-in-law—the freshly post-exam kind.”

“Keep dreaming! Bennett is mine!”

“You’re the one dreaming! Bennett belongs to everyone.”

“…”

Translator’s Notes:

WOW!!!! Our adorable Tuantuan became a big brother. And our wonderful couple Ryan and Auston had three more babies. It’s unbelievable how I got the number right in my little theatre that Auston really wanted three babies and as Qin Qin and Remy were twins, they became four. It’s adorable to see how the siblings interact with each other!! I wish to see them more in the novel. Unfortunately, Only one chapter is left now.
