Little Qin Feng crawled onto his mother’s lap and curiously asked, “Mom, is the outside world fun? Bandner said there will be movies to watch and lots of books. What’s a movie? Does the sun shine on people? Is it very bright? Audie said it will turn me into a black ball, and that wouldn’t be cute. Bandner also said that when we live outside, kids will be able to go to school. I want to learn, to make little robots like Ryan. Mom, Mom, do you think I can?”

Cyril gently stroked his son’s soft hair, and his uneasy heart slowly calmed down. He spoke softly, “Baby, you can do it. After all, you’re born on the same day as Emperor Qin Feng.”

Little Qin Feng nodded eagerly. “Mom, I will work hard and become a man like the Emperor. I will take care of you and little brother.” He patted his mother’s slightly rounded belly and softly said to his brother inside, “Little brother, let’s work hard together. We’ll live under the sun one day.”

Many residents who had grown up in the cave town had never seen the sun. Some had never even left the underground. They had told him much about the outside world, but due to their courageous natures, they never escaped death’s grasp and had left this world far too soon, leaving him and his children behind.

With his eyes slightly moist, Cyril lowered his head and quietly explained, “Sand got in my eyes.”

The military doctor, a gentle and understanding person, smiled and said, “That’s how it is in the desert. Come with me, I’ll give you a checkup.” He lowered his head and met Little Qin Feng’s gaze. “I’ll give the child a checkup too.”

“Checkup? A physical examination?”

“Yes, the General ordered it. You’ve been living underground for a long time and suddenly coming to the surface, your bodies will definitely feel some discomfort. We need to monitor it—just a blood sample for testing and a scan with a machine. Once everyone had settled into the tent and started to adapt to their new life, the sky began to darken. The setting sun cast a blood-red glow, illuminating the fluffy clouds and dyeing them brilliant hues. Savage Star rarely experienced rain, and the brilliant sunset was almost a daily sight. The pirates who had once lived within the walls had grown indifferent to such sights, no longer caring to look at them. But the people from the cave town were different. Many of them had never even seen what daylight looked like.

“It’s so beautiful,” Little Qin Feng marveled, staring at the lovely clouds, unable to get enough of the view. “Mom, look, it’s really beautiful. So what Bandner said was true, the sky is beautiful, and the clouds are beautiful.”

“Yes.” Cyril let Little Qin Feng run around him. He placed his right hand on his belly and sighed, “It really is very beautiful.”

Out of breath from running, Little Qin Feng walked over to his mom, looked up, and asked softly, “Mom, did we really leave underground this time?”

“Yes, my dear.”

Little Qin Feng jumped up and down with excitement. “That’s awesome! I like it this way.”

Not far away, Ryan and Auston were walking under the sunset. Auston looked at the lively Little Qin Feng and asked, “Is that the child with the same name as yours?”

“The same sound, but his name means ‘Harvest.” Ryan said, “Such a cute little guy, and very smart. He told me he wants to become a scientist and make small robots.”

“A person with ambition will eventually succeed, as long as he sticks to his dream,” Auston paused in his steps and looked at Ryan, his eyes full of warmth. “Because he has a remarkable name.”

Ryan chuckled. “Yeah, but I can’t be so narcissistic as to admit that.”

“You should…” Auston noticed creatures appearing suddenly in the calm desert. “Ryan, nature is so wondrous.”

“The miraculous part is yet to come,” Ryan said. “Wait until the sawtooth-armored beast comes out. We can have a little fun, see if the mecha is stronger or if its massive serrated teeth are.”

“Wait and see.”

Night fell very quickly. In the blink of an eye, more creatures appeared in the desert. These creatures, whose daytime hiding spots were entirely unknown, would quietly emerge at night, hunting, fighting, and engaging in endless struggles for dominance. The Sawtooth Armored Beast stomped heavily through the desert, charging recklessly. Strangely, despite its massive body, it never sank into the sand, as if it had mastered the unparalleled lightness skill of ancient China.

The Sawtooth Armored Beast was thoroughly enjoying its reign as the desert’s overlord when its path was suddenly blocked by a white, winged creature. It had grown accustomed to acting without fear and wasn’t intimidated at all, even going up to provoke it… The white giant beast started moving. Its strikes were powerful, its arsenal plentiful, and its techniques endless. The Sawtooth Armored Beast was battered and beaten, knocked flat once again. The young Sawtooth Armored Beast shook its head in frustration, got up, and charged forward once more.

Inside the mecha, Auston relished having a thick-skinned, nearly indestructible opponent. This allowed the battle to last longer, giving him more time to enjoy the process. “This is fascinating. Even after being bombarded, the Sawtooth Armored Beast’s body only shows some faint markings.”

The only artificial intelligence maintaining its status as the sole entity inside the white, winged beast-shaped mecha, Code Zero, responded, “General, I’ve scanned its body. It’s extremely tough, with almost no weaknesses. Unless we deliver ammunition directly into its mouth—but its mouth is too small, and that would require significant effort.”

Auston’s eyes gleamed. “No need. It would be a waste to kill it.”

Code Zero, “Understood, General.”

Not far from the battlefield, tents had been set up for the residents of the cave town. Soft light spilled out from the tents, dispelling the residents’ fear of the darkness outside. Some brave and curious people began to step out from the tents, standing outside to watch the source of the intense fighting, occasionally gasping in awe.

Little Qin Feng looked around and saw Ryan standing with his arms crossed at the outermost edge. He ran over, but as he was about to reach Ryan, he slowed his pace, walking over like a calm, mature adult. “Hello, long time no see.”

Ryan lowered his head and, treating him like an equal, smiled and said, “Long time no see.”

Cough, cough. Little Qin Feng cleared his throat, imitating the adults, then asked, “What is that?”

“What?”

“That big monster fighting the Sawtooth Armored Beast?” Little Qin Feng’s eyes sparkled.

Ryan replied, “It’s a mecha.”

“I know what a mecha is!” Little Qin Feng excitedly gestured, “I have a really cool toy, no one else has it, only I have it. It was a gift from my dad.”

“What is it?” Ryan asked, engaging with him.

Little Qin Feng proudly said, “It’s a small mecha toy, as long as my arm, and it makes beep-beep-boop-boop sounds. I really like it. But…”

Ryan patiently asked, “But what?”

“But it’s shaped like a person. Aren’t mechas supposed to look like that?”

“Now there are beast-shaped mechas,” Ryan explained, guiding him. “They fight just like humanoid ones and even have some advantages. When you start school, read more books, study hard, and you’ll get to see real mechas someday.”

Little Qin Feng’s eyes sparkled brightly as he nodded vigorously. “Okay.”

After staying on the Savage Star for more than a week to complete the reconstruction work, the army left a detachment to garrison the area before returning. The formerly lawless zone was officially brought under the jurisdiction of the Golden Crusade Legion, becoming part of the Red Coral Starfield. The other two Legion Generals deeply regretted their earlier decision—they wouldn’t have let Auston seize the opportunity if they’d known the outcome.

On the journey back, Ryan finally opened his personal terminal to check the Empire’s news. A headline pinned to the top in bold red caught his attention:

“In the time I was out on a mission, Connor made a big move!” Ryan remarked with a sigh of admiration.

Auston, already aware of the events that had unfolded on the Empire’s capital planet, replied, “Connor’s been under a lot of pressure recently. Fan Lanting just requested leave from me, and I approved it.”

Ryan chuckled. “Seems the pressure was worth it.”
