The sound suddenly stopped, and the car fell into darkness. The inspectors looked at each other in confusion. They were just ordinary inspectors in the Overwatch Council. On weekdays, they only participated in a sports meeting organized by the institute. They had never experienced anything like this before.
Suddenly, there was a massive explosion, and the flying car they were in started shaking violently. The inspectors hurriedly grabbed their communication devices, intending to call the Overwatch Council for help. However, they realized that the signal had been cut off long ago, and the flying car continued to shake even more violently. The inspectors were thrown around, and a few desperately tried to stay at their desks, frantically typing on keyboards, but it was futile. The flying car they were using was just a regular vehicle, and they never expected anyone to dare to attack it. A murder had just taken place in the imperial capital.
Many of the attackers had come specifically for Ji Shiqing. The inspectors now regretted not requesting a escort when they were at the Supervisory Yuan, so now they are going to die here with Ji Shiqing
“Open the escape pods and abandon the car,”
Just as the inspectors were preparing to record their last words, Ji Shiqing’s voice came from behind, his voice was cold and emotionless, as if the current situation was no different from being interrogated at the Supervisory Court in his eyes.
One of the inspectors turned to look at Ji Shiqing with curiosity. Inside the car, it was so dark that they could only catch glimpses of him when a red light flickered. Ji Shiqing sat there, maintaining a straight posture and an emotionless expression. There was no sign of fear or nervousness on his face.
“How do I open the escape pod?” asked the inspector who was driving the flying car, his face filled with embarrassment. They vaguely remembered something about it from their flying car driver’s license test, but they hadn’t paid much attention to it.
Ji Shiqing got up from his seat, walked to the control panel, quickly tapped it twice, and then returned to the back cabin.
With the other inspectors in their designated spots, the speeding car suddenly split into two halves, and the rear cabin they were in transformed into a spherical landing device, guiding them safely to the ground from a considerable height.
Upon landing smoothly, the speeding car above them exploded in a bright white burst, forming a large gray mushroom cloud, while the debris of the vehicle fell like meteors.
The smoke cleared, and everyone emerged from the escape cabin. Apart from Ji Shiqing, the other inspectors appeared shocked and embarrassed.
They looked around cautiously. They found themselves in a snowy pine forest. If they crossed this forest and traveled less than a hundred kilometers to the east, they would reach the Golden Rose District.
However, with the flying car destroyed, the supervisors had no choice but to contact the monitoring institute. Unfortunately, their communication devices still couldn’t establish a connection.
A strange smell wafted through the air, not necessarily unpleasant but rather reminiscent of stale beer. One of the supervisors muttered to themselves, “What’s that smell?”
Ji Shiqing calmly stated, “It’s the secretion of the red-footed insects, scientifically known as Maxichol. Consuming too much of it can damage the central nervous system of the brain, leading to memory loss, cognitive decline, and behavioral disorders.”
Hearing Ji Shiqing’s words, several inspectors subconsciously held their breath, and within two minutes, their faces turned bright red1flushed. Inhaling Maxichol would make them foolish, but a lack of oxygen could be deadly.
Ji Shiqing continued: “The concentration here isn’t high. Later, when we reach a hospital, have a doctor prescribe you some Bilarso, twenty milliliters twice a day, morning and evening, for a week.”
He looked up into the distance and said coldly: “Come out, sir.”
Several inspectors followed Ji Shiqing’s gaze, their expressions filled with uncertainty, and they spotted a man in a black windbreaker wearing a mask emerging from behind the pine trees. He held a laser gun in his hand, and the gun’s barrel was aimed at Ji Shiqing.
Despite the menacing situation, Ji Shiqing stared at the gun’s barrel without fear. It brought back a sense of familiarity, reminiscent of his childhood when his parents were still alive. His father used to enjoy playing cops and robbers with him, and during these games, his father would point a water gun at Ji Shiqing just like this and demand that he surrender by raising his hands.
In those playful moments, young Ji Shiqing would occasionally playfully mimic his father. When his father wasn’t looking, he would grab a water gun and “arrest” his father. Mr. Ji never got angry; instead, he would lift Ji Shiqing high, as if preparing to toss him, and Ji Shiqing would laugh while hugging his father’s neck tightly.
These cherished memories unexpectedly resurfaced. Ji Shiqing, returning from his reverie, questioned the visitor, “Who are you?”
The man on the other side replied: “The one who wants your life.”
Perhaps to prevent them from recording his voice, this hitman used a voice changer to make himself sound like a cartoon character. It sounded somewhat comical now.
Ji Shiqing was also familiar with this cartoon voice; it belonged to the main character’s black-and-white pet cat in one of his favorite cartoons when he was a child. He hadn’t heard it for many years.
His father had once made him a small robot that used this voice. However, after his parents’ accident, that little robot had disappeared into the galaxy along with them.
Who is this person in front of me?
Ji Shiqing didn’t have time to think deeply, the gun was already pointed at his forehead, and the man pulled the trigger.
