Thank you, quayA, for the ko-fi~
The two little fluffballs, having been woken up, were still in a daze.
Feng Yuan rubbed his face with his claws, wanting to continue burying himself in his dad’s embrace to sleep.
But Feng Qi only whispered in his ear, “Yuan Yuan, it’s time to eat.”
The next second, the drowsy little guy instantly snapped awake.
“Dad, is there meat?”
“Yes. I made soy sauce stir-fried meat for you.”
Feng Yuan was lured awake by the promise of delicious food.
The little fox, on the other hand, was still a bit groggy. Bo Han held his little fox in one arm, kissed its face, and then gently kissed its pink paw pads.
After a round of kisses, Bo Han lowered his voice and coaxed, “Baby, turn back into your cub form. Let’s go eat. I steamed some egg custard for you.”
The little fox blinked its amber-like round eyes but didn’t move.
Bo Han, seeing that it hadn’t transformed, wasn’t in a hurry and continued patiently coaxing.
After several attempts, Feng Yuan, who had already gotten dressed, came over.
“Rong Rong, let’s go eat together!”
Feng Yuan had napped for a short while and seemed recharged.
His little voice was full of energy.
Upon hearing him, the little fox took a few seconds to react before slowly transforming back into its cub form.
The little fox’s cub form was just as soft and adorable.
Bo Han skillfully dressed it in its little outfit and, after doing so, kissed its little face again.
Feng Yuan, seeing Bo Han kiss Rong Rong, lifted his chubby little face expectantly.
Feng Qi: “…”
Feng Qi also leaned down and gave him two kisses.
Once both families had finished getting ready indoors, they headed out together.
Since Rong Rong had just woken up, Bo Han didn’t let him walk on the ground.
Feng Yuan, however, walked along the path, observing the village’s scenery as he went.
The village had many vegetable gardens.
On either side of the muddy path, there were sweet potato vines and other crops.
Feng Yuan walked ahead while Feng Qi and Bo Han chatted behind him.
“I wonder if there’s anywhere here that sells rain boots. I want to buy a pair for Yuan Yuan.”
“Ask the production team. They probably have some prepared.”
The village paths were a bit difficult to walk on after the recent rain.
Feng Yuan had brought several pairs of shoes but no rain boots.
While the two dads chatted in the back, Feng Yuan struck up a conversation with the cameraman in front.
He asked the cameraman, “Uncle, is it tiring to carry that?”
“Do you want Yuan Yuan to help you carry it for a bit?”
“Yuan Yuan is very strong!”
“Have you eaten yet?”
“Are you hungry?”
The little chatterbox kept talking to the cameraman nonstop, only stopping when they reached their destination.
Many people were already seated at the destination.
The other three groups of parents and their children had arrived.
Ming Ming was throwing a tantrum with his dad again.
His dad, Huo Fei, was an actor and also a rich second-generation heir. Their family had always had nannies, so Huo Fei had no idea how to cook.
Huo Ming, however, knew how to cook.
He had been instructing his dad earlier, but his dad was clumsy. The meal he made was far from satisfactory.
Now, the father and son were clashing again.
Xiao Putao, seeing them argue, ran over and hugged Huo Ming’s leg.
“Brother Ming Ming, don’t be angry!”
With Xiao Putao’s coaxing, the conflict between the Huo father and son had just settled by the time Feng Yuan arrived.
The production team had set up long tables and chairs.
The dads and their children sat on opposite sides.
On the long table between them were the meals the dads had prepared.
The little ones were to eat the meals their fathers had prepared and give their evaluations.
Feng Qi and Bo Han’s dishes were placed side by side.
Director Li, standing nearby, didn’t waste any time and announced it was time to eat.
Feng Yuan was the first to join in.
He wasn’t very skilled with chopsticks, but he could still manage to pick up food.
He picked up the soy sauce stir-fried meat his father had made.
When Feng Qi was preparing this dish, he had been generous with the soy sauce.
But after the first pour, he felt the color had turned too dark, so he added a bit of boiling water to dilute it.
After adding the water, he let it simmer briefly to ensure the dish wasn’t too watery.
After all, soy sauce stir-fried meat is a stir-fry, not a stew.
Feng Yuan had been used to eating his dad’s cooking before.
But it had been nearly half a year since he last had a meal made by his father.
Over the past six months, Feng Yuan had been eating delicious dishes every single meal.
As soon as his dad’s stir-fried meat entered his mouth, Feng Yuan’s chubby little face twisted.
“Ugh.”
He gagged outright.
Feng Qi: “???”
Feng Qi stared in shock at his son’s reaction.
After gagging, Feng Yuan slapped his chubby little hand over his mouth.
He lifted his small face and, before anyone could react, loudly explained in his childish voice, “It’s not that Dad’s meat is gross!”
Determined not to let his dad feel discouraged, the little one declared resolutely, “Yuan Yuan is pregnant, that’s why he feels like throwing up.”
Everyone: “…”
The group froze in unison for a few seconds.
A few seconds later, Bo Han, with his usual icy expression, was the first to burst out laughing.
The adults’ laughter simply wouldn’t stop.
Even Feng Qi couldn’t help but smile wryly.
Feng Yuan still didn’t understand why the adults were laughing at him.
He continued to insist seriously, “Yuan Yuan really is pregnant!”
This only made everyone laugh even harder.
Feng Qi, still chuckling, wiped his son’s mouth.
“Alright, Yuan Yuan, don’t eat the stir-fried meat. Try something else.”
Feng Qi had made several dishes.
Every single one of them was unpalatable.
Fortunately, when Feng Yuan tried the other dishes, he didn’t throw up again.
Feng Qi’s cooking was far from impressive. Bo Han, who had received guidance from him, produced dishes whose taste was predictable.
The steamed egg custard Bo Han made—after Rong Rong took one bite, he tightly shut his mouth.
Bo Han tried feeding him other dishes.
This time, Rong Rong directly threw up.
Seeing him vomit the food, Bo Han quickly cupped his large hand under his son’s mouth to catch it.
The usually fastidious movie star, Bo Han, didn’t mind the mess at all as he caught the food his son had spit out.
The role of “Dad” is a cure for all kinds of cleanliness.
Not just what a child spits out. Even their poop, a dad has to handle it.
“Rong Rong, you can’t just not eat.”
Bo Han glanced at the little Yuan Yuan, who was devouring his meal heartily beside them, then looked at the child in his own arms, feeling a bit of a headache.
Yuan Yuan’s expression while eating was as if he were taking medicine.
But at least he managed to finish two bowls of rice.
Bo Han, truly at a loss, had no choice but to seek help from the others.
Director Li, seeing that Bo Han really couldn’t produce a decent meal, had him perform a talent instead, which then allowed others to step in and help.
Bo Han, holding Rong Rong, sang a song.
His voice was pleasant. He had even released an album before.
After the song ended, Huo Ming stood up and went to cook a meal for their family.
Six-year-old Huo Ming, wielding a wok, quickly prepared three dishes and one soup, all of which looked, smelled, and tasted excellent.
The three dishes and one soup included both meat and vegetables.
Feng Yuan stared at them, drooling.
He looked at his empty bowl, regretting that he had already eaten two servings.
“Yuan Yuan, you can’t have any more.”
Feng Qi could tell from his expression that he still wanted more.
“Feel your tummy. See how round it is?”
Feng Yuan didn’t touch his belly.
He simply glanced down and saw his own plump, rounded stomach.
Feng Qi reminded him again, “If you eat any more, your tummy might burst.”
Under Feng Qi’s watchful eye, Feng Yuan obediently stayed in his seat and watched Rong Rong eat.
Rong Rong ate very slowly.
Bo Han had placed a spoon in his small hand, letting him scoop up the rice bit by bit.
Meanwhile, Bo Han was also feeding him personally.
The meal Huo Ming had prepared was delicious.
Knowing he ate slowly, Rong Rong tried his best to open his mouth wide so his dad could feed him more at once.
During dinner, Yu Qingqing caused a bit of a stir.
She was a somewhat picky eater.
Among the dishes her father had made, there were some she didn’t like.
She secretly picked them out, intending to feed them to the dog.
But even the little stray dog on the ground wouldn’t eat the food she had picked out.
Yu Qingqing was caught in the act by her father.
The little girl felt quite wronged: “Even the dog won’t eat the food you made!”
If even the dog wouldn’t eat it, she didn’t want to either.
Each family had their own little moments.
By the time the meal ended, stars had filled the sky.
The fathers carried their little ones back to rest.
Feng Yuan was still quite energetic when he was carried back.
He wanted to take a stroll around the village, but Feng Qi didn’t agree.
“Yuan Yuan, Dad wants to sleep.”
Feng Qi had had a tiring day. He’s mentally exhausted.
If he took his eyes off this little treasure for even a second, something would happen.
After returning home, Feng Qi took a bath, while Feng Yuan brushed his teeth and washed his face.
Feng Qi didn’t give Feng Yuan a second bath.
Once both father and son were ready, they slipped under the covers.
Feng Qi let out a comfortable sigh.
The temperature here was neither too hot nor too cold. It’s quite suitable for spending the winter.
Feng Yuan was also under the covers.
But he wasn’t quite ready to sleep.
“Dad, when are we getting up tomorrow?”
“I don’t know. Go to sleep first. Someone will wake us tomorrow.”
“Dad, was your phone taken away, too?”
“Yes.”
“Dad, Yuan Yuan wants to play in the village tomorrow.”
Feng Yuan’s repeated calls of “Dad” were quite hypnotic to Feng Qi.
The window of the adobe house wasn’t tightly sealed.
Faint, hazy light filtered through the paper window, casting a soft glow in the room.
After calling out “Dad” a few more times, Feng Yuan sat up in the quilt.
Once seated, his small hand reached out and touched his dad’s face.
Dad was already asleep.
The not-yet-sleepy child crawled over to the window and peered outside.
He alternated between looking out the window and lying back down on the bed, amusing himself all alone.
After who knows how long of this back and forth…
He fell asleep with his chubby little legs propped against the wall and his small hands spread out.
Before drifting off, he remembered to pull the quilt over his tummy.
Dad had said you must always cover your belly when sleeping.
Feng Yuan was now sleeping peacefully.
Next door, Bo Han had finished tidying up his little fox but hadn’t gone to sleep yet.
He was still gazing down at his little fox.
On his little fox’s arm was a red birthmark.
He had tried to remove it using spiritual energy. But no matter what he did, it wouldn’t fade.
Bo Han couldn’t get rid of the birthmark, so he picked up the mirror again to compare his face with the little fox’s.
There was no doubt that the little fox resembled him.
But he was still worried.
The little fox’s father still didn’t know about the little fox’s existence.
“Forget it.”
Bo Han put down the mirror and kissed his sweet, soft baby again. “Your father wouldn’t be bored enough to watch variety shows.”
His little fox would probably remain undiscovered.
After reassuring himself, Bo Han thought of the father and son next door.
He had heard from Feng Qi—
Feng Qi had lost most of his previous memories.
Feng Qi didn’t even remember how he and Li Sheng had ended up with Yuan Yuan.
As for Feng Qi’s memory issues, Bo Han had a way to help him.
But he was still considering whether to use it…
Late at night, when all was quiet and everyone was asleep, Bo Han held his little fox, lost in thought for a long time before finally drifting off.
The next day.
Feng Yuan woke up just as the roosters began to crow.
After waking, he put on his little shoes, pushed open the wooden door with effort, and stepped outside to look around.
The sky outside was just beginning to lighten.
Feng Yuan, still in his pajamas, wandered around like a little ghost.
He was wearing his black-and-white cow-print pajamas, which weren’t very noticeable in the dim light.
He had already walked right up behind someone without being noticed.
A person climbing down from the wall urged his companion, “Hurry up, it’s almost dawn! We need to move faster!”
These were two petty thieves who had come to steal as a team.
The thieves weren’t from the village but had heard that outsiders—celebrities—were coming.
The thieves knew that celebrities were rich.
So, the two had hatched a wicked plan to sneak in during the night and steal.
They didn’t know exactly which house the celebrities were staying in.
They had to search house by house.
While searching, they didn’t forget to pocket a few things.
The program crew had arranged for the guests to stay on the east side of the village.
The thieves had come to the west side.
They had been stealing for half the night but hadn’t managed to take much.
Just as they were crouching by the wall and were about to leave, a small figure approached them.
“What are you doing?”
Feng Yuan’s sudden voice behind the two thieves startled them. Already on edge, the sudden voice made them scream.
Feng Yuan was also frightened by their screams.
One of the more timid thieves, after screaming, went weak in the legs and collapsed to the ground.
He mistook Feng Yuan for a ghost.
Not long ago, a child in the village had fallen ill and passed away. The child’s grandmother, unable to bear the grief, had also passed away soon after.
The family had buried the old woman and the child together. After the grave was sealed, the entire family left the village to work elsewhere.
The thieves had passed by that grave on their way to steal.
Now, in the dark, a ghost-like child suddenly appearing behind them was utterly terrifying.
The thief wearing a black skull-patterned shirt rolled his eyes and fainted on the spot.
His companion, seeing him faint, turned and ran.
Feng Yuan reached out with his chubby little hand and grabbed him.
The fleeing thief was young, only seventeen or eighteen, but he was already an experienced thief.
Even after being caught by Feng Yuan, he wasn’t afraid.
“I’m telling you, I’m not scared of ghosts! Get out of my way, or I’ll make you die all over again!”
The thief glared fiercely and threatened Feng Yuan.
Feng Yuan could tell he was no good man and refused to let him go.
As the two struggled—one big, one small—the thug pulled out a dagger.
Just as the dagger was about to strike, Feng Qi, who had come out searching for his child, flung the man forcefully against the wall from a distance.
The thief slammed into the wall and immediately spat out a mouthful of blood.
Soon, the villagers were awakened.
The production crew also arrived. Director Li watched as the police took the two thugs away and even followed them to the station.
Since one of the thugs had been armed with a knife, he needed to get some answers.
After spending half the day at the police station, Director Li didn’t return until the afternoon.
As soon as he got back, he went to check on Feng Yuan.
He had expected the little one to be frightened.
But when he arrived, he didn’t find a scared child at all.
Instead, he saw the little one perched high up in a tree, refusing to come down.
Feng Qi stood beneath the tree, clutching a stick and scolding his son with his head tilted upward.
“Feng Yuan! Get down here this instant!”
“If you come down now, Dad might still let you off easy. But if you keep refusing, I’ll spank your bottom until it’s sore!”
Feng Qi’s fiery temper left Director Li utterly bewildered.
“Hey, Xiao Meng, what’s going on here?”
Xiao Meng, the cameraman, hadn’t accompanied Director Li to the police station but had stayed in the village to continue filming.
Director Li had asked him to casually capture the guests’ activities.
“Brother Li, Yuan Yuan went wild playing in the village with Rong Rong and Qingqing.”
“They picked a fight with a goose and even poked a hornet’s nest.”
“There’s a ditch in the village. Yuan Yuan claimed he could swim, so he decided to put on a show for everyone…”
Director Li hadn’t expected Feng Yuan to be so full of mischief.
In just that short time, he had gathered enough footage to last a lifetime.
The kids were like guerrilla fighters, refusing to let any adults follow them.
Yu Yiming had been stung by a bee and was too exhausted to keep up with his daughter’s antics.
Xiao Putao had tired herself out and went off to rest with her dad.
Ming Ming was still splashing around in the ditch, unwilling to come out.
Feng Yuan had swum a lap in the water and then run off with Rong Rong.
He had spotted his dad approaching with a stick.
In his haste to escape, Feng Yuan had scrambled up a tree.
He hadn’t gone up alone. He had brought Rong Rong along with him.
Rong Rong was a slow-moving little guy.
If left to his own devices, he probably wouldn’t have been able to keep up with all the excitement.
But Feng Yuan had a heart of gold.
Whatever Feng Yuan did, he made sure to include Rong Rong.
Earlier, when Feng Yuan jumped into the water to swim, Rong Rong, who couldn’t swim, closed his eyes fearfully and leaped in after him.
That jump nearly ended in disaster.
It was Feng Yuan who had carried him back to safety.
Watching Feng Yuan stir up trouble all over the village—chasing chickens, teasing dogs, swimming in the river, and climbing trees—Feng Qi had finally reached his limit.
He grabbed a stick and went to catch his son.
“No, Yuan Yuan won’t come down.”
Seeing the stick in his dad’s hand, Feng Yuan knew that coming down would mean a spanking.
Holding Rong Rong tightly, he sat firmly on the tree branch.
“Dad, you go away! Once you’re gone, Yuan Yuan will come down!”
Feng Yuan was hoping that once his dad left, he could make another escape.
But Feng Qi saw right through his little scheme.
Furious, Feng Qi stood firmly under the tree, not moving an inch.
“Feng Yuan, you want to test my patience, is that it?”
“Fine. I’ll wait right here for you. I don’t believe you’ll stay up there all day.”
True to his word, Feng Qi decided to wait it out.
He even asked Bo Han to bring him a chair.
Bo Han glanced at Feng Qi, who was seething with rage, then looked up at his own son, who had been taken up the tree by Feng Yuan.
He, too, wore a worried expression.
He went back to fetch a chair, then stood under the tree and called out, “Rong Rong, it’s time to drink some water. Come down, and Daddy will give you water, okay?”
Bo Han wanted to coax his little fox down.
But his little fox was clinging to Feng Yuan’s chubby arm, drinking from Feng Yuan’s water bottle at that very moment.
Feng Yuan had a small water bottle hanging around his neck and a bag slung diagonally across his body.
Inside the bag were peanuts, candies, sweet potatoes, and a whole pile of snacks. They were gifts from villagers who found him adorable.
With a slightly dirty face, Feng Yuan didn’t seem to mind that his water bottle was a bit grimy.
After taking a couple of sips himself, he wiped the already chewed straw and let Rong Rong drink from it.
Once they finished drinking, the two little ones started munching on sweet potatoes, shelling peanuts, and eating candies.
Up in the tree, they ate and drank to their hearts’ content. Before long, they were both letting out satisfied burps.
Bo Han was still calling for his son.
Feng Qi, listening to him call out, felt utterly exasperated.
“You should sit down and rest for a while,” Feng Qi said, sitting in his chair. Though he was still angry, his expression had gradually calmed.
Bo Han, noticing his calm demeanor, was a bit puzzled. “Why aren’t you anxious anymore?”
Feng Qi glanced at his gleeful child in the tree and replied calmly, “Feng Yuan will come down on his own soon.”
Bo Han: “?”
Bo Han: “It looks like he has plenty to eat and drink up there. I’m not so sure he’ll come down.”
Feng Qi, gripping a stick, said calmly, “He’ll definitely come down.”
“He hasn’t gone to the bathroom in half a day.”
That little one would surely come down to pee.
Feng Qi, as the biological father, guessed correctly. The child playing happily in the tree suddenly stopped laughing.
He shifted his little body, his face turning slightly red from holding it in.
Rong Rong, sitting beside him, blinked in confusion, noticing his discomfort.
Feng Yuan held on for a little longer.
“I can’t hold it anymore. Yuan Yuan needs to pee.”
Unable to hold back any longer, the child leaned forward to peek down at the base of the tree—
His father, ready to discipline him, was still sitting there.
