“Master, if there really is something unusual, it’s very likely isolated by some kind of formation. Otherwise, I wouldn’t have been unable to sense it.”
Xiao Ling voiced her suspicion. After all, her divine sense was not weak now. Unless the area was surrounded by a very advanced formation or barrier, only such a special situation could hide it from her current level of cultivation.
“Never mind, let’s not worry about it for now. We’ll see where the little white wolf takes us.”
Shen Yao sensed no malice from the little white wolf, nor did her good luck react. That meant the place posed no threat to her, so there was no harm in going to take a look.
As the little white wolf kept running, Shen Yao grew more and more intrigued. A little white wolf that appeared to be only one or two months old had been walking for two hours straight and still seemed full of energy.
Awoo! The little white wolf finally led Shen Yao to the top of the mountain. It circled around her several times, acting coquettish nonstop, looking indescribably adorable.
Shen Yao couldn’t resist the little one’s charm. It was too cute. She picked it up, held it in her arms, and stroked its head. “Little one, I don’t see your parents anywhere. What did you bring me all the way up here for?”
She used her mental power to scan the area but found nothing unusual. This was the mountaintop. There weren’t many trees, but each one was exceptionally thick and lush. She had a feeling these trees had survived for thousands of years.
“Master, I can sense something unusual somewhere now, but I still can’t tell what it is. It’s just like when you first went into the mountains. I could only sense that something was there, but I couldn’t identify it.”
Xiao Ling found this little white wolf very unusual. The place where her master had rested at noon was far from the mountaintop. How did this little puppy know where her master was?
“It’s fine. We’ll just have to adapt when the time comes. Now that we’re here, turning back would be pointless.”
Shen Yao found a rock to sit on and rest. If even Xiao Ling, a spirit beast, couldn’t sense anything specific, she certainly couldn’t. After all, her mental power was only at fifth level and not yet heaven-defying.
Besides, she was not one to fear death. Running away from problems was never her style. With her powerful space as a backup, if she still acted timidly, hesitating and fearing everything, wouldn’t that be wasting her super golden finger?
Wuu wuu! The little white wolf looked at the water Shen Yao was drinking. The aura from the water was attracting it, so it had no choice but to use its strongest weapon.
Inside the space, Xiao Ling watched through her divine sense as the little white wolf rolled on the ground. She was so angry that she could breathe fire. This wasn’t a little wolf at all. It’s clearly a fox vixen! It was going too far, manipulating her master like this. Xiao Ling was determined to roast it.
“Master, don’t give it any spiritual water! This wretched dog isn’t cute at all.”
Shen Yao was speechless. Since when did Xiao Ling become so petty? She was even arguing with a puppy. She said, “Xiao Ling, can you not be so stingy? Even if I adopt it in the end, you will still be one of a kind.”
“Hmph, you can only give it two sips then.” Why did this rotten dog have to appear and steal her master?
The corner of Shen Yao’s mouth twitched. Xiao Ling was quite cute when she threw a tantrum. But that was fine, she would never be bored in the future.
“Little one, come here and drink.” She placed the cup of spiritual spring water on the ground and stroked its head again. This wolf really knew how to read people. Seeing that she hadn’t given it water after all this time, it had tried to climb up onto her.
The little white wolf didn’t hesitate. It quickly lapped up the water. This taste had been attracting it all along. It was so delicious. It felt its whole body grow warm and comfortable.
Watching the little one’s eager expression, Shen Yao knew the attraction of the spiritual spring water was strong. She just hoped that one cup of water wouldn’t turn it into a demon wolf. That would be troublesome. After the founding of the People’s Republic of China, animals weren’t supposed to become spirits.
After finishing the spiritual spring water, the little white wolf bit Shen Yao’s pant leg and moved forward.
Seeing the little white ball’s action, she knew it wanted to keep walking. She didn’t know how much further they had to go. “Little one, you lead the way.”
Shen Yao followed the white ball of fur to one of the giant trees. Just as she was wondering what was going on, the little one took action. It ran to nine giant trees in a row, touching each with its tiny paw. Then it ran to a large rock and pressed something. The sound of a mechanism opening followed.
The little one then ran back to her side. Moments later, several huge boulders nearby slowly moved aside, revealing the entrance to a passage.
The little white wolf, who had been beside her, started running towards the entrance, looking back as it ran to see if she was following. Shen Yao smiled. How afraid was this little white wolf that she wouldn’t come?
But she didn’t think too much about it. She quickly followed the white ball into the passage. The little white ball then closed the passage before continuing forward.
The entire passage was filled with countless branching paths. She felt that without the little white ball to lead the way, anyone who barged in here would never come back out. There were traps everywhere. One wrong move and you could die.
After walking for nearly an hour through the winding path, they finally reached the exit of the passage. Shen Yao felt completely disoriented.
As soon as she stepped out of the passage, she felt a wave of warm energy flow into her body. Shen Yao looked at the scenery inside the valley. It was beautiful. The valley was very large, filled with the songs of birds and the fragrance of flowers—a true hidden paradise.
She walked slowly through the valley. Prey was everywhere, many different kinds, and they were all very docile.
Led by the white ball, Shen Yao arrived at a place covered in ginseng and reishi. Looking at the vast expanse of ginseng and reishi before her, she felt she might be seeing things. After nearly two days in the mountains, she had only found a few ginseng plants. Yet here was a whole field of them.
Shen Yao was overjoyed, grinning from ear to ear. She picked up the white ball and squeezed and rubbed it. “Little white ball, you really are big sister’s lucky star.”
Awoo~ The little white ball felt like it was being squeezed to death. Could someone please save it? This was terrifying.
Hehe! “Little white ball, go play by yourself.”
Shen Yao put the little one on the ground, took out her tools, and got to work. Since good things had come to her, she wasn’t going to miss out. She dug up the older specimens and tossed them into the medicinal garden in her space. She left the younger ginseng and reishi to continue growing.
After digging up the medicinal herbs, she also gathered a batch of prey from the valley and placed them on the mountain in her space. She spotted many fish in the lake and collected those more than three jin, leaving the smaller ones. She felt like a bandit raiding a village. She had swept through every resource in the entire valley.
