Suddenly, Bai Liu seemed to remember something and looked at Wei Xingteng, asking tentatively, “Buddy, do you think you could arrange a salary for me from the Underworld?”

Wei Xingteng easily agreed, “Sure! We’ve got millions of ghost coins.”

Bai Liu’s face darkened. “Get lost!”

Ye Xue placed some fruits and meals at the back door, waiting for the wandering souls to come and use them.

Because of the accident ghost and Chen Su were keeping watch and because of Ye Xue’s reputation, no ghosts in the area dared to scare people casually.

Ye Xue noticed that the wandering souls were listening more and more lately. They realized that offerings would earn them food, so they were becoming more obedient.

That day, Chen Su was on duty. She usually stayed nearby in a tree.

As Ye Xue walked toward the tree, a long tongue suddenly dangled down, nearly hitting her face.

Startled, she stepped back. “What the hell, what kind of ghost is that?!”

Ye Xue looked up.

The hanging ghost that Jian Sian had been raising was sitting on a branch, playing a game with Chen Su, and trying to use its tongue to make a swing for her.

However, it failed to build the swing and instead gave Ye Xue a shock.

Coincidentally, this was the same tree the hanging ghost had used to scare her last time.

The hanging ghost still remembered Ye Xue’s appearance and the shadow from that time. Afraid that Ye Xue would cut off the tongue it had worked so hard to grow, it hurriedly retracted it and hid behind Chen Su like a shy wife, obediently saying, “Greetings, Daoist.”

Chen Su saw Ye Xue was startled and quickly floated in front of her, asking with concern, “Daoist Ye, are you alright?”

Ye Xue took a deep breath. “I’m fine.”

Since the hanging ghost hadn’t done anything, and was behaving more or less obediently, Ye Xue didn’t make a fuss, but she did ask, “When did you two become so close?”

Chen Su replied, “A few days ago, I was eating something, and she came over attracted by the smell. I gave her some…”

Ye Xue, hearing this, was somewhat tempted but still refused, saying, “That won’t do. If Tian Yi Temple finds out, they might tear down Xuan Zhen Temple.”

Chen Su sighed a little, “Is that so? Then we’ll have to consider it further.”

Behind them, the Hanging Ghost called out, “Sister Chen Su, I’m hungry!”

Ye Xue decided not to disturb them any longer.

Chen Su snapped back to reality and said to the Hanging Ghost, “Wait a moment, I still have some ingots left.”

She pulled out some hidden treats and shared them with the ghost.

In the distance, a familiar voice rang out, “Ye Xue!”

Ye Xue turned around and saw Ruan Xinghua approaching with something in hand.

She teased, “Didn’t you just come by a few days ago?”

Ruan Xinghua chuckled, “You can never offer too many incense sticks to the Ancestor.”

Ye Xue shook her head with a light smile.

Ruan Xinghua handed her some snacks and opened a bag of chips for herself.

Then, seemingly noticing something, Ruan Xinghua curiously asked, “What are those two doing over there?”

Ye Xue froze for a moment, looking ahead. Aside from Chen Su and the Hanging Ghost, there was no one else around.

But Ruan Xinghua couldn’t be seeing them.

Ye Xue cautiously asked, “What are you talking about? Are there people over there?”

Ruan Xinghua looked confused. “Didn’t you see them? There were two, an adult and a little girl. But why are they squatting down eating?”

When Chen Su and the Hanging Ghost heard someone talking about them, they both looked over.

Ruan Xinghua was momentarily stunned, then her face turned pale.

Chen Su was fine; she was quite lovely, though her face was a little pale, she seemed normal.

But the Hanging Ghost, too excited, couldn’t control herself. Before she knew it, her tongue had slipped out again, dangling long.

Ruan Xinghua’s mouth dropped open, “She, I, you…”

“Ghost—!” A shrill scream pierced the air.

Ruan Xinghua fainted, the chips scattering everywhere.

The Hanging Ghost knew she had scared Ruan Xinghua and was at a loss. She mumbled an apology, “I didn’t mean to…”

Ye Xue helped Ruan Xinghua up, her expression complicated as she said, “It’s okay, it’s got nothing to do with you guys.”

She asked Chen Su to help clean up the spilled chips, and then carried Ruan Xinghua back to the room.

Xu Zhou, hearing the scream, rushed over. “Shishu, what happened? I also heard a scream just now…”

He saw Ye Xue carrying someone and, surprised, asked, “Huh? Was that him?”

Ye Xue nodded. “Yes, it was him.”

Xu Zhou was about to offer help but stopped, staring at the young man in Ye Xue’s arms, astonished. “Ruan, Ruan Xinghua?”

Ye Xue politely declined his help. “I can manage alone. Nephew, go ahead and keep busy. I’ll take him back to his room.”

Ruan Xinghua finally regained consciousness. He touched his aching head, slowly recalling what had happened, and then couldn’t help but shout, “There’s a ghost! There’s a ghost!”

Seeing this, Ye Xue handed him a glass of water. “Stop yelling, there’s no ghost here. The two you saw earlier won’t harm anyone.”

Ruan Xinghua, seeing Ye Xue, finally calmed down. He took the cup. “Oh, I see. Thanks, Ye Xue. I’m not thirsty.”

He then set the cup down next to him.

“But speaking of which…” Ye Xue said, curious, “How did you suddenly start seeing ghosts?”

Ruan Xinghua, still confused, replied, “Huh? I don’t know. I’ve been behaving lately, and I haven’t been going anywhere strange.”

Ye Xue believed him. After all, seeing how scared he was, he definitely wouldn’t dare mess with anything unnatural anymore.

But still, it was a little strange.

Ruan Xinghua obeyed and stared at her.

Ye Xue leaned closer, lifting his eyelid slightly. She noticed a layer of dark energy around his eye sockets.

Ruan Xinghua was startled. “What? You mean I’ll keep seeing ghosts?”

He couldn’t handle the shock, quickly grabbing Ye Xue’s hand, begging, “Sister, Xuejie, please save me! I don’t want to see ghosts!”

Before Ye Xue could speak, a furious voice suddenly echoed through the room, “You dirty man, don’t touch Ye Xue’s hand!”

The sudden voice startled Ruan Xinghua so much that he jumped up.

He frantically looked around the room, then, seeing no one else, panicked even more. “Who, who’s talking?!”

Ye Xue turned toward the window.

She gently picked up the cotton doll and looked at it helplessly.

Normally, people couldn’t hear the doll’s voice, but because Ruan Xinghua’s dark energy was so heavy, he could hear it too.

Ye Xue reassured him, “It’s fine. It’s just talking.”

“Huh? What did you say?” Ruan Xinghua was a little slow to catch on.

Then, it dawned on him, and he slowly turned to look at the doll in Ye Xue’s hand. “You mean… it’s talking?”

Ye Xue was about to nod, but before she could, Ruan Xinghua’s eyes rolled back, and he collapsed onto the floor again, fainting.
