FSC [QT] Chapter 48.1

Returning to Sixteen Years (10)

The rented house of the Qiu family was not big, with only two rooms except for a separate bathroom.

The slightly larger one served as the living room and dining room. Qiu Wu also completed most of her after-school homework on the dining room table.

The other was a bedroom shared by mother and daughter. In addition to a cloth wardrobe, there were also two single beds, where simple curtains were used to separate the private space.

The business of the barbecue restaurant ended at two o’clock in the morning, and after that, Qiu Xia and Qiu Wu had to help clean up.

When they got home, it was almost three o’clock. The two of them took turns taking a shower and washing up. When they went to bed, they were already too tired to lift a finger.

In the past, the mother and daughter slept quietly at this time. Occasionally, Qiu Wu wanted to talk about something, but she would be interrupted impatiently by Qiu Xia. But today Qiu Xia took the initiative to speak.

“I’m getting married. That man is seven years older than me and he has a son at home.”

Turning off the lights, Qiu Xia’s voice seemed particularly clear in the quiet night and even faintly formed an echo in the small room.

“After we get married, you can call him Dad or Uncle. He has said that he won’t mind what you call him. That Uncle’s son will come back from his uncle’s house tomorrow. I made an agreement with him that when the two families sit together for a meal, we should get to know each other in advance.”

If it weren’t for the meeting the next day, Qiu Xia would not be ready at all to talk to her daughter.

In other words, she thought awkwardly that there was no need to explain too much to her.

In fact, although Qiu Xia didn’t take the initiative to say that she was going to remarry, Qiu Wu had already noticed the signs.

The first was the attitude of the old landlady, Grandma Lin. She always looked at her and hesitated to speak. Every time she brought something over, she would try to persuade her to be more considerate of her mother.

Secondly, the number of times her mother was not home for meals had become more frequent. This month, the number of times her mother was not home for meals exceeded the total number of last year.

Ah Wu could feel these subtle changes. Thinking of Qiu Xia’s single status, she immediately guessed that maybe her mother was not far away from saying goodbye to being single.

Ah Wu had no objection to her mother’s remarriage. In her opinion, it was enough for Qiu Xia to be single for her daughter for so many years.

In a strange city, although the life of mother and daughter was not at the end of their rope, it was definitely not good. Now that Qiu Xia could find a reliable person to marry, it was also a good thing for her.

It was just that the real ‘Qiu Wu’ may not think so.

Ah Wu inherited the memory of ‘Qiu Wu’ and knew how strong a girl she was and also deeply understood her love for her mother.

‘Qiu Wu’ couldn’t understand why her mother, who was so gentle to outsiders, had such a cold attitude toward her, but the mother and daughter’s life of relying on each other since childhood made her still regard her mother as her only one, even in this situation.

Her mother didn’t love her. She thought that it was because she was not doing well enough.

So when other children were crying and asking for toys and snacks from their parents, she had already begun to learn how to cook.

From the age of six, she could even help her mother who worked the night shift wash all her underwear and lighter clothes.

  1. chimia de goiaba says:

Oh dear, all the clues point to Qiu Wu to be a child born out of a… crime 😥 it would explain why did they move to the other side of China, why Qiu Xiao can’t warm up to her own child but still feels responsible for her, why she feels resentful towards Ah Wu…
What a horrible feeling. She knows she can’t blame the child but the child is a constant remind of what happened.
I want see the full context, why she gave birth, why she didn’t give the baby to an orphanage, who did it to her, will she ever get justice for what happened?
    That’s just too sad 🙁
