From the corner of his eye, the second steward glanced at the girl who was sleeping soundly in the arms of the Eldest Young Master. At first, he thought that this girl was the daughter of the Eldest Young Master’s uncle’s family, which was the Eldest Young Master’s cousin.
Who would have known that the Eldest Young Master would get married so early, and that silly, seemingly not clever girl would actually be the Eldest Young Master’s wife?
How could the noble County Duke accept such a wife?
But this was not something that a little steward like him should worry about. These days, he had carefully observed that the Eldest Young Master was very concerned about that idiot wife, otherwise, he would not specially bring her with him.
He just didn’t know if the Eldest Young Master could convince the Old Duke to admit this fool’s granddaughter-in-law. If not, it wouldn’t be considered an insult to let this little fool be raised as a concubine.
“Um.”
Huo Lindong had no objection to this arrangement. After working hard all the way, he really deserved a good night’s rest. Moreover, Huo Lindong also wanted to find an opportunity to inquire about the situation at the mansion.
Only by asking about the current situation in the mansion could he know how many trump cards he had.

Unlike the second steward, a tight-lipped old fox, there were many people assigned to Jingyang Courtyard who were eager to please the new master, so they talked about everything they knew. From the mouths of these people, Huo Lindong learned what happened in the house after he left.
Wu Fangmeng, the legitimate wife of Xiao Fu’en, the eldest son of the Old Duke, is the youngest daughter of the former Minister of Household Affairs.
Unlike the Xiao family, which gradually withdrew from the center of power in the Jin Dynasty, the Wu family was at its peak at that time. The head of the Wu family, Wu Yaozu, who served as the Minister of Household Affairs at that time, was favored by the late Emperor.
Therefore, Wu Fangmeng had a high status in the county government. Duke Xiao, who had always been a carefree and dissolute man, only dared to eat outside after his legitimate wife entered the house, but he did not dare to take a concubine.
It wasn’t until Wu Fangmeng gave birth to two daughters in a row, and then she got injured and became pregnant again that she had no choice but to open her face to the two girls around her and take them as concubines for Xiao Fu’en.
It didn’t know if the Xiao family had bad feng shui. Just like the Old Duke who gave birth to seven daughters in a row, although the subsequent concubines were happy, they all also gave birth to daughters.
Once, Xiao Fu’en and his friends went to a place for fun and accepted a beauty offered by a local merchant. This was how Xiao Lingdong, the eldest son of the Duke from a concubine, was born.
The Old Duke Xiao valued this eldest grandson very much and took him under his care. After that, Xiao Fu’en got several more daughters.
When everyone thought that Xiao Lingdong might be the only heir of the Duke’s family, Wu Fangmeng, a woman who had been judged unable to conceive again, became pregnant.
Ten months later, she gave birth to the legitimate son that the Duke’s family had been waiting for for many years. Then, everyone’s attention was focused on this legitimate child.
Xiao Lingdong was no longer personally taught by the Old Duke but was sent back to his biological mother. His previous treatment plummeted with the birth of his legitimate younger brother. After all, there was a difference between the child born from the main wife and the concubines.
If it were just that, Xiao Lindong wouldn’t hate her so much. However, Wu Fangmeng was a narrow-minded woman. She was afraid of the eldest son of a concubine who was once taught as the heir of the county government.
In the few years since his younger brother was born, Xiao Lindong went through countless calculations and stepped into the Palace of Hell several times, with his life hanging by a thread.
