“Have you heard? A few days ago, the Jiang family had a very lively wedding banquet for the girl to marry, and the Diao family’s bride-to-be banquet was also very lively. It was said that each table had sixteen hot dishes and eight cold dishes. Who can marry a daughter to be a wife with such a big banquet? Who can have such a big banquet when marrying their daughter and marrying a wife? It’s a pity that we are not from Ping Village. Otherwise, we can go and have a meal. We can have a good time with a red envelope of five or ten cents.”
Jiang Wu and Huo Lindong’s wedding was so lively that even the neighboring villages heard about it. Bai Xiaohua heard someone talk about it when she went to the river to wash clothes during the day. Then, she came back to tell her sister-in-law Liu Zhaodi.
During this time, the relationship between the two sisters-in-law became much closer, and a large part of this was due to the small business that they ran together.
Originally, Bai Xiaohua just didn’t want to waste the dolls that she had worked so hard to make. Who knew that these weird things really brought them some surprising income?
The shapes of those dolls were very weird, which were very different from traditional cloth dolls. At first, no one paid attention to Bai Xiaohua’s stall. Gradually, these strange dolls attracted the attention of some children.
Bai Xiaohua was not greedy, so she set a very low price for those dolls. Some elders who loved their children were really willing to buy one or two dolls to take home.
Even so, Bai Xiaohua’s business was not particularly good. She could only sell eight or nine dolls in half a day.
For such income, Xu Baozhu would not look at it at all because the income was too small. In Xu Baozhu’s view, the payment and money were not directly proportional.
But in the eyes of Bai Xiaohua and others, this was not the case.
If they sold eight or nine dolls every day, they could earn fifty or sixty cents a day, which was one or two taels silver a month.
To put it bluntly, it was impossible for the two couples together to earn so much money from the fields every month.
Of course, these incomes did not exclude the cost of buying fabrics and silk threads, as well as the time and experience Bai Xiaohua and Liu Zhaodi spent sewing these dolls.
However, the cost of dolls was very low. This was thanks to Xu Baozhu’s shrewdness.
The fabrics used to sew these dolls were not complete pieces of cloth, but they were unwanted rags that Xu Baozhu bought from a clothing store at a very small price. These discarded scraps of cloth were sold by the bag, and each bag only cost 20 cents, so the cost was almost negligible.
The style of the cloth dolls was very simple. They were not as difficult as traditional cloth dolls such as cloth lions and cloth tigers dolls. Bai Xiaohua and Liu Zhaodi were much faster after getting started.
The sales volume of these dolls was not large, so the two of them could complete the dolls after they did the housework.
As for setting up a stall to sell it, it was even simpler. Just sent one of the four people to guard the stall, and the remaining three people would help that person complete the work in the field.
Faced with the extra twenty or thirty cents per family per day, Bai Xiaohua and Liu Zhaodi both felt that it was worth it.
So far, no one else knew that the two couples had saved some private money through this small business. The four of them had a tacit understanding of hiding it from the family’s elder and Xu Baozhu.
Bai Xiaohua thought that it was not their fault. Who made Xu Baozhu so selfish and arrogant? They just wanted to make more plans for their future.
“The little lady of the Jiang family has such a good life.”
There was a bit of envy in Liu Zhaodi’s eyes. Although the other party was a fool, she had a father who loved her and gave her a prosperous life. Which girl in the country could compare with her?
