What made Mu Wanwan even more unbearable was the cousins from her grandparents’ family.
She had no idea what ideas her cousins’ parents had instilled in them, but they had the bizarre idea that since she was a girl, her house, car, and money would naturally belong to those cousins in the future.
Fortunately, her parents were clear-headed and knew that no matter how close their nephews and nieces were, they were not as close as their own daughter.
After similar things happened many times, they became estranged from their relatives in their hometown. Apart from helping with their parents’ retirement, they basically had no contact with their brothers and sisters in their hometown.
During that time, in order to comfort his daughter, Mu Feng kept telling her that she was the most important baby of her parents and their only child.
Mu Wanwan always remembered this promise of her parents, so when the doctor mentioned this question, she told the doctor this answer without thinking.
“Have you discussed it with your mother?”
The doctor frowned.
Since the second-child policy was implemented, he has seen many examples of conflicts between parents and second children. He was afraid that this answer was Mu Wanwan’s self-assertion, so he asked cautiously.
“My mother will definitely not want this child.”
Mu Wanwan said firmly.
How old was her mother?
If she gave her a younger brother or sister at this age, her mother might not have enough energy to take care of the child during the most critical period of the college entrance examination for the younger brother or sister.
In the future, the child would be her trouble.
Besides, her father died in a car accident, and she was still in college. The logistics company still needed her mother to take care of it temporarily.
If she kept the fetus at her older age, her mother would definitely not be able to devote her energy to the company’s affairs.
Most importantly, Mu Wanwan had been accustomed to the life of an only child, so she didn’t want another person to compete with her for favor.
“At this age, the quality of sperm and eggs is not high. No one can be sure that when the fetus grows up, there will be no deformities and other problems in the subsequent examinations. Induced labor will cause greater harm to my mother. Moreover, the risk of childbirth for elderly women is higher than that of ordinary pregnant women. My mother already has me as her child, so there is no need to take risks again.”
In addition to not wanting to have another child in the family, Mu Wanwan was also concerned about her mother’s health. She felt that it was a foolish thing to get pregnant at the age of nearly 40 when she already had a child.
“You should discuss it with your mother.”
The doctor understood that it was the child’s own idea.
“Okay.”
Mu Wanwan felt that it was unnecessary, but since the doctor asked repeatedly, she had no choice but to agree.

“Aunt Zhang’s cooking skills have declined. Today’s chicken soup is a bit salty. Mom, you’d better eat lighter food now. Don’t drink this soup.”
As the company’s affairs became more and more busy, Mu Feng and Zhuo Wu invited an aunt from Xiangnan who was good at cooking.
Because the three members of the family had a strong taste for food, this aunt who liked to use heavy-flavored seasonings such as chili peppers when cooking was loved by the whole family.
But now that Ah Wu was seriously injured and hospitalized, she needed to eat lighter food, and the aunt’s control of taste was not so appropriate.
Mu Wanwan took a sip of chicken soup. The salty and fresh taste suited her appetite very well, but this taste was a bit too salty for her mother who was seriously injured and had not recovered.
She couldn’t help but blame herself for not tasting the saltiness of the food before going out. She only discovered this problem when she was in the hospital and her mother was about to have lunch.
Now Ah Wu’s meals were still mainly liquid food. Without this chicken soup, the only thing left for lunch was a light millet porridge.
Mu Wanwan had no choice but to serve a bowl of porridge for her mother. After tasting it and finding the temperature right, she brought it to Ah Wu’s mouth and prepared to feed her spoonful by spoonful.
“I want to keep this child.”
Ah Wu took a sip of porridge. When Mu Wanwan lowered her head to serve the second spoonful, Ah Wu suddenly spoke.
“Why!”
Mu Wanwan suspected that she had heard it wrong. However, when she looked up and saw her mother’s calm expression, she knew that it was not her illusion.
She felt as if she had been slapped in the face for making such a firm statement with the doctor during the day.
They had clearly said that she was their only daughter, but now her mother wanted to give birth to the child in her belly. Would she still be the only one?

Translator’s Comment:
I (also) like this arc. This arc is different from other arcs. No ML, no romance (a bit spoiler). I think if your focus is on romance, you can skip this arc.
What I like about this arc is how it portrays the struggle of being parents, both physically and mentally, especially in the turbulent period when the new policy is implemented, how the parents are being misunderstood by their own children, and how soft-hearted they are to forgive their children’s mistakes.
I also like how the story tells the grievance of being the children, how children are being wronged by their parents and others, their sadness about their parents’ broken promise, and how children sometimes (or often) take for granted their parents’ status.
These two perspectives will be presented through Ah Wu and Mu Wanwan, not just from one side.
I can’t tell who is wrong or who is right. Maybe both are wrong, or both are right.
If you are curious, you can continue to read it. Maybe by then, you can tell me if you are on the parent’s side or children’s side. Please write your thoughts on comment area below~
