She didn’t see the Third Cousin at the door just now. Maybe she was avoiding her on purpose.
Combined with Ling Zhuo’s question, it seemed that the one who asked the palace maid to call her over was not Ling Zhuo in front of her, but the missing Ling Ying.
There was no benefit for Ling Ying to do this. On the contrary, Ling Wei might hate her because of this matter, and she would have to live a miserable life after returning to the mansion.
So, she did this definitely not for selfish reasons, but to help her, to make her realize her current dangerous situation and not foolishly take Ling Wei as a good person.
After entering the mansion, Ah Wu and this cousin had little contact. The reason why the other party helped her was most likely because of Mrs. Fan’s fair and generous way of dealing with things.
She was a good girl who knew how to be grateful.
“Is it her?”
Ling Zhuo was also a smart person, otherwise, she would not have been able to sit on the throne of empress solely by her own ability. Ah Wu’s sigh made her guess the cause and effect.
She was afraid that the Third Cousin would have a hard time at the mansion in the future.
Ling Wu had just returned and might not understand the temperament of the second branch, but Ling Zhuo knew clearly what kind of people they were like, especially Mrs. Xiao Wu and Ling Wei. Each one was more petty than the other and could still cause trouble.
Ling Ying was already at the age of marriage, so she was afraid that Mrs. Xiao Wu would make trouble in this matter and marry Ling Ying to a man who looked bright but was dirty inside, which would ruin Ling Ying’s life.
“After returning home, let Mother take care of the Third Cousin more.”
Ling Zhuo pursed her lips.
In the past, she only had her own little land in front of her eyes and was busy competing for the favor of her parents. How could she pay attention to her cousin from the next branch?
Even though she knew that the other party had a hard life, because of the distinction between legitimate and illegitimate children, she never took Ling Ying’s difficulties to heart.
This might be the difference in standpoints. At that time, the Eldest Madam also had an unmarried illegitimate daughter, Ling Lian. What Ling Zhuo disliked most was her elder sister who had a weak face and always made trouble for her and her mother.
Fortunately, her father was no longer the man who was fooled by the concubine. Although Ling Lian used many tricks, she never really hurt Ling Zhuo and Mrs. Fan.
But having such a sister and knowing the disgusting things that Ling Lian’s mother did from the nanny who served her were enough to make Ling Zhuo hate all concubines and illegitimate children.
At that time, Ling Zhuo was too naive. Her world was either black or white.
But the experiences over the past six months had given her a different perception of life and allowed her to look at those illegitimate children whom she had previously dismissed with one brush, from another perspective.
Among these people, there might be illegitimate children like Ling Lian who were restless and tried to compete with legitimate children, but there were also good people like Ling Ying who were content with their duties and kept their hearts.
“Yeah.”
Ah Wu agreed thoughtfully.
The atmosphere in the room was a little awkward at this time. The two of them stood face to face and didn’t know what to talk about for a while.
“Just now—”
“Just now—”
After a long silence, they both spoke at the same time, but when they saw that the other had something to say, they both stopped talking at the same time.
“Just now, what you heard was just to make Ling Wei angry. Don’t think I will really please you.”
Ling Zhuo looked at Ah Wu. Her eyes sometimes looked up and sometimes looked down, but she didn’t look directly into Ah Wu’s eyes. She looked guilty.
After all, she had been a self-centered and arrogant young lady for eleven years. At this age, she was the age with the strongest self-esteem and vanity. It was more difficult for her to apologize to the girl she once provoked and admit her mistakes in person than to kill Ling Zhuo.
“Don’t do that. If you try to please me, serve me tea and water, and greet me morning and evening, will I still think you are sick?”
Ah Wu smiled.
With her and Ling Zhuo’s status, it was difficult for them to be close sisters. Moreover, even if she was willing, ‘Ling Wu’ might not agree.
Ah Wu had taken possession of someone else’s body, so it would not be good for her to do anything against the other person’s wishes.
So, she thought that the way they got along was the best as it was now.
They kept their distance from each other, but when they encountered external conflicts, they could join hands and face the outside world together.
“You wish.”
Ling Zhuo groaned angrily. She had never served tea or water to anyone since she was a child.
But after hearing Ah Wu’s answer, Ling Zhuo breathed a sigh of relief.
It was indeed difficult for her and Ling Wu to become close sisters who could talk about anything.
Although she now realized how much she owed Ling Wu and knew how unreasonable her past behavior was, Ling Zhuo herself could not stand forcing her to suppress her temper and try to please Ling Wu in a humble manner over time.
Being able to get along peacefully like this was already the best way for two people to get along.
