Liu Xun waved her fan at him.

“Relax. I had your precious disciple handle it. If he’s doing it, what is there to worry about? Everything’s taken care of.”

Though her words were directed at San Zongyu, her eyes never left Lin Jin. Sure enough, the moment she finished speaking, she eagerly introduced herself.

“Hello there, young friend. I’m Liu Xun, sect master of the Dongli Division of Yan Yu Mountain. All talismans and formation cultivation fall under my domain. I saw your performance in the trial realm—your formations were excellent. Would you be willing to become my personal disciple?”

Lin Jin nodded repeatedly, dazed.

Formations? What formations?

Dongli Sect Master Liu Xun? Who was that?

The Record of the Proud and Arrogant Immortal didn’t spend much ink on side characters. Among Yan Yu Mountain’s leadership, only San Zongyu was described in any detail; the rest were barely mentioned. Lin Jin had no impression of them at all.

While he was still lost in thought, Liu Xun was pushed aside by a surge of spiritual energy. Taking her place before Lin Jin was the “beggars’ sect leader.”

The old man tidied his appearance slightly and began enthusiastically selling himself.

“Don’t listen to her—she’s obsessed with those lousy talisman arrays! Your name’s Lin Jin, right? I know you’re a beast tamer. I may not look like much, but I’m the number one beast tamer in the world today! I’m Mo Yuzi of the Nanqian Division of Yan Yu Mountain. Interested in becoming my personal disciple? As long as you nod your head, if you like blue-eyed dogs, I’ll raise ten of them for you! Stick with me—forget demon beasts, I’ll even teach you how to tame demons! The beast-taming path has an infinitely bright future! If you cultivate diligently, one day you might even take the Bright Candle Heavenly Sovereign as your contracted beast—and that wouldn’t be impossible!!”

Mo… Mo Yuzi?

What a blunt, careless, immediately transparent name. Lin Jin loved it.

But he didn’t have time to dwell on that. The moment he heard “number one beast tamer,” nothing else mattered.

Lin Jin hurriedly pulled the badly injured Qiuqiu from his arms and held it out to Mo Yuzi.

“Senior, this is my contracted beast. It was badly hurt protecting me in the trial realm. Since you’re the world’s top beast tamer, you must have a way to heal contracted beasts, right? Please save him. This is very important to me. I won’t ask for free—I’ll pay spirit stones! Or I can wipe tables, sweep floors, serve tea—anything!”

His words amused quite a few people. Mo Yuzi laughed heartily, stroking his beard.

“Do you think I lack your spirit stones? Or that I need a little errand boy? I already said I want to take you as my personal disciple. As long as you agree, I guarantee I’ll have your little dog lively and kicking again!”

“Mo Yuzi, have you no shame, taking advantage of him like this?!”

Liu Xun planted her hands on her hips and pointed at Mo Yuzi’s nose, indignant.

“It’s just a little dog! A few healing talismans would do the trick—I can treat it too!”

As she spoke, Liu Xun extended her spiritual energy toward the puppy in Lin Jin’s arms. Lin Jin froze, too slow to stop her, and could only watch as Qiuqiu was pulled from his grasp toward her.

Seeing this, Mo Yuzi also sent out his spiritual energy, trying to snatch the puppy away.

“I can heal it! Let go!”

“You heal my ass! My disciple’s dog—I’m the one treating it!”

Two immortal elders nearly getting into a hair-pulling fight over a puppy was quite the spectacle, but Lin Jin had no mind to appreciate it. He scurried back and forth after Qiuqiu, terrified the puppy might be torn in half between them.

In the end, neither of them succeeded.

Before they could determine a winner, another stream of spiritual energy swept in, snatching the puppy away in a different direction.

That energy carried an overwhelmingly powerful presence. Whoever stood behind it was clearly a big shot. Interrupted so abruptly, Liu Xun and Mo Yuzi actually stopped fighting, merely glaring at each other before withdrawing their spiritual energy and standing properly.

Lin Jin looked at them, then at the other immortals.

He noticed that once that presence appeared, every immortal present wore a subtly complicated expression.

The mysterious flow of energy carried Qiuqiu to the edge of the Azure Jade Platform. A breath later, the energy condensed into a thin human form.

It was a handsome man dressed in loose black robes, wide sleeves and layered hems cascading down. He leaned casually against the jade railing, utterly languid.

His long hair hung loose. There was a faint bluish stubble on his chin that hadn’t been fully shaved, and his eyes still held a trace of drunken redness.

“Greetings, Sect Leader.”

All the elders bowed in unison. Seeing this, Lin Jin hurriedly bent at the waist as well. The man, however, spared them not a single glance.

“A contracted beast?”

The man repeated the words while staring at Qiuqiu, then let out an inexplicable chuckle.

With one hand, he lifted Qiuqiu by the scruff of the neck. With the other, he raised a white jade wine flask and took a long drink. After casually wiping the wine from his lips, he narrowed his eyes slightly and glanced at Lin Jin.

“Taking him as a contracted beast… you little brat are quite interesting.”
