Qian Yan had already begun walking towards her car. She had no intention of getting into a philosophical debate with Lan Yazhen.

Lan Yazhen really couldn’t believe that Qian Yan could just leave like that. She ran after her and loudly yelled, “I didn’t go after Brother Gu for his money. If you don’t believe me, just wait and see. There’s only friendship between Brother Gu and me.”

After all, he was willing to get into a brawl for you. If he’d asked for it, you’d have had to take care of him for the rest of your life. You’d be just, so, so wronged, wouldn’t you?”

“Like I said, if Brother Gu needs it, I’d take care of him,” Lan Yazhen replied, her frustration clear in her voice. Why must Gu Qianyan always look at her with that condescending gaze?

“You’d better go back to your studies,” Qian Yan suggested. She remembered that she also needed to study because she had end-of-term exams too.

Qian Yan rolled up her car window. Lan Yazhen tried to stop the car, but the two bodyguards quickly intervened and lifted her out of the way. She could only watch helplessly as Qian Yan drove away.

Once Qian Yan was gone, the two bodyguards let her go. Lan Yazhen stomped her foot in frustration. Did having money make someone so superior? If they had money, could someone do whatever they pleased?

Lan Yazhen, however, did realise that she indeed needed to focus on her studies, or she risked being expelled from school. She left, huffing in anger.

In her office, Qian Yan called a secretary in.

“Miss Gu?”

“I need you to go to my house and fetch something for me,” Qian Yan said. “My housekeeper auntie is at home during the day, and I’ve already called her. You can go there and just pick it up.”

“Of course, Miss Gu.”

The secretary briskly left. In truth, the secretary felt relieved that Miss Gu oversaw the company now. Things had become much smoother, and they’d recently secured two excellent new projects, both of which could be credited to her doing.

The secretary returned to the office carrying a pile of books. When the secretary started taking them out, the secretary was a bit surprised. These looked like university textbooks.

“I’m planning to read them in my spare time. The final exams are still important,” Qian Yan explained. The secretary nodded. Inwardly, the secretary thought that Mr. Gu had gone too far.

If it weren’t for him being so unreliable, Miss Gu would be enjoying her time at university right now. Instead, she now had to both manage the company and study university courses at the same time.

“Miss Gu, Secretary Zhang studied the same thing in college,” the assistant, Li Xiaozhen, said. “If you don’t mind, you can ask Secretary Zhang to come and help you if you have any questions about your courses.”

Through their recent interactions, Li Xiaozhen had come to understand that Miss Gu was a very direct person. It was better to speak openly; beating around the bush was not to her liking.

Qian Yan nodded. “Alright. I’ll study it first, then ask Secretary Zhang to come in if there’s anything I don’t understand.”

Qian Yan made a mental note of Secretary Zhang. She had the memories of the previous owner, but she was unfamiliar with university courses. She was sure to encounter some difficulties, and having someone who knew the subject well to answer her questions would be helpful.

Qian Yan had been constantly on the move between home, the company, and the hospital. Other people thought that she must be exhausted. In fact, she was full of energy every day and not tired at all.

She visited Gu Jingkui every day, mostly to check on his recovery progress.

She hadn’t personally examined Gu Jingkui’s injuries, but based on Lin Shanghuai’s reaction, his recovery was going well.

Lan Yazhen still visited every day, and they occasionally crossed paths. She even brought Xiang Zheng along once. However, Lan Yazhen noticed Xiang Zheng eyeing her from time to time, which made her uncomfortable, and she stopped bringing him.
