On the day the MV shoot wrapped up, the cat café uploaded a new video on Bishui Station.
The title was: “Unboxing 49 Catnip Balls. 21 Cats Descend into Chaos, Total Mayhem Ensues!”
Oh wow!
It’s a catnip party!
As everyone knows, after cats get into catnip, they enter a hallucinatory state for a while and do things they normally wouldn’t dare to.
Just from the title, fans couldn’t help but imagine what the cats would do once they got high.
Would the majestic Yun Chao start purring and acting cute?
What would the gentle but elusive Miss Penny do?
Would the already wild tortoiseshell twins and Tong Qian go completely off the rails?
It’s hard to imagine how the gentle, caring café owner would react to catnip.
Fondant would probably unleash her Ragdoll-dog instincts and go crazy chasing balls.
Would the usually poised Song Gao, Jing Zhe, and Qing Ming also lose their composure?
And what about the slow, airheaded Da Shu and Mang Zhong, the already mischievous Xia Zhi, Ru Fu, and Shang Qiu, the delicate and soft Ling Ze and Xiao Man, the tsundere and reserved Meng Xia, and Sui Shou, who’s practically a mini version of the café owner?
The video opens with a black screen, where the subtitles greet viewers: “First, let’s open the catnip.”
After the black screen fades, the café owner, wearing a light camel-colored sweater, is shown with both hands resting on a delivery box, sitting in the warm glow of a lamp. He looks at the camera, his eyes crinkling as he gives a silent greeting.
Comments:
“Mom, I saw an angel.”
“Too beautiful. I’m dead.”
“Boss, I love you! And I love your cats, too!”
While the comments keep pouring in with confessions, the café owner casually pulls over an oversized orange cat bed and tosses the opened catnip inside.
Subtitles suddenly appear, with an arrow pointing to the cat bed: The café manager’s own bedding, commandeered by the boss because it’s the largest size.
The audience laughs hysterically.
The process of unpacking the catnip is sped up in editing. To the fans’ disappointment, Boss Pei’s full attention is on the delivery box in front of him. He never looks up or speaks throughout, leaving only the top of his head visible to the camera.
After unpacking all the catnip, the camera tilts slightly toward the staircase. Soon, a tall man leads a fluffy crowd of cats upstairs.
Leading the charge is Tong Qian. The usually agile but silly cat suddenly goes weak in the legs, takes a few wobbly steps, then leaps three feet into the air, gliding like a flying carpet straight toward the pile of catnip.
The catnip mountain that Boss Pei had painstakingly built collapses instantly. Dark green catnip balls roll everywhere.
Then, the cats go wild.
The “total mayhem” promised in the title finally arrives.
Several cats collide while chasing a single ball, some start nibbling on each other’s heads while chewing on catnip, and even the usually dignified little princesses lose their composure.
Comments:
“OMG. Tong Qian just bit the tails of Yin Zhou, Dan Huang, and Dai Dai in one go. He’s gonna get beaten… Yep, he’s getting beaten.”
“I’m dying. Meng Xia keeps carrying catnip over to Xiao Man.”
“Is Dan Huang a hamster? Where is he taking all those balls he’s collecting?”
“Ah, my Miss Penny is rolling around. How can she be so beautiful?”
The usually dignified, duchess-like Miss Penny lies in a “little bed” made of catnip, slowly exposing her belly while pressing a catnip ball under her paw.
When the camera turns to Boss Pei, the audience goes wild, too—
Even the typically aloof Yun Chao is curled up in Boss Pei’s arms, gently rubbing against his slender wrist.
Squinted eyes, a pink nose and lips, a chin resting against Pei Shiyi’s hand, accompanied by faint purring…
Who had ever seen the big shot act so coquettish?
Boss Pei lowered his head to kiss her ear.
Yun Chao even abandoned the catnip, her front paws tightly clutching Boss Pei’s sweater.
Bullet comments:
“For a moment, I don’t know whether to envy the person or the cat QAQ”
“I’m so freaking jealous!”
“Absolutely stunning engine, Boss Yun Chao.”
The viewers casually grabbed their own plush blankets, pretending they were cats’ soft bellies. While the audience was eating lemons, the handsome man in the video sat beside the cat café owner, cradling a dazed Fondant in his arms.
The little princess hugged a catnip ball, blissfully collapsing onto Yun Chao.
For the first time, Yun Chao couldn’t support the little thing and tumbled along with her into Boss Pei’s embrace.
Just as the bullet comments were screaming “awsl” over the adorable interaction, the man waved a catnip ball in front of the owner twice. Anyone could see the anticipation in his eyes.
Ooh, does he want the owner to rub his hand like a cat?
They could do that!
In the video, the handsome cat café owner slapped the man’s hand away: “I’m not a cat!”
The man lowered his hand, his eyes drooping as well, looking inexplicably pitiful.
Then, a bullet comment lit up:
“Enough! Your cat café is just tricking dogs into coming here to be slaughtered! Single dogs are super aggrieved.”
The catnip incident had a follow-up. The cat bed used to hold the catnip ball became a more attractive sleeping spot than Pei Shiyi’s own bed until the scent faded.
Mang Zhong even tried to carry the cat bed upstairs to work, but was stopped by Dan Huang. No kidding. If this thing were brought down, the cat café’s customers would be treated to a wild cat disco.
The day after the catnip was put away, the cat bed became a source of comfort for the fluffy ones. These fluffballs gathered in circles around Dan Huang’s cat bed, hanging their heads, collectively reminiscing about the catnip ball.
Every strand of fur seemed to scream, “I still want more.”
Even Yun Chao and Miss Penny lay not too far from the cat bed.
Pei Shiyi sat behind the fluffy ones, savoring the sight of their dejected backs for a while, then heartlessly added a restriction to the cabinet, locking away the catnip.
Two locks couldn’t stop these restless furballs.
…
Wei Lan’s new album was ready. A preview copy was sent to Pei Shiyi. Faced with the little superstar’s complete trust, Pei Shiyi was speechless. After listening to it a few times with the furballs, he placed it in the bedroom cabinet on the third floor. Until the album’s official release, this complete version wouldn’t be taken out.
Boss Pei looked at Wei Lan as if he were one of the cat café’s furballs.
This was Wei Lan’s first album after leaving his company.
For this album, Wei Lan’s studio even registered an account on Bishui Station. In just six days, the account under the ID “Wei Lan” almost caught up with Xian Chan Cat Café in followers. Xian Chan Cat Café had 1.624 million fans, while Wei Lan had 1.458 million.
It wasn’t surprising. Wei Lan had always had a good reputation on Bishui Station.
Wei Lan also accepted an official interview with Bishui Station. The interview video was released on Friday and later appeared directly on the app’s advertisement page and the homepage’s featured recommendations.
The interview video was primarily intended to promote the new album, marking its first official announcement. Although it didn’t reveal too many details, it already had many fans eagerly anticipating its release.
In the Bishui Station interview, Wei Lan wasn’t particularly witty or humorous. But his refined speech and occasional moments of being caught off guard endeared him to casual viewers.
When asked, “Do you usually watch Bishui Station?” Wei Lan answered straightforwardly, “I watch it often. I wait for Xian Chan’s updates every week.”
Xian Chan?
Some fans who were solely there for Wei Lan and casual viewers who didn’t follow the pet community but were only interested in entertainment gossip were left confused. What was this about?
Mentioning Xian Chan and cats, the usually reserved Wei Lan finally became more talkative, speaking at length about the cats at the cat café and the new album.
The information he revealed stunned all the fans. The theme of the new album was cats. Not as a metaphor or symbol, but literally about living cats, the cats from Xian Chan Cat Café!
This album was created in collaboration with cats. It’s featuring cats!
The Bishui Station interview video provided the first exclusive details about the rising star’s new album. Its view count soared to two million on the very same day.
The rising star’s popularity was no fluke. It was built on a foundation of high-quality songs. His new album had long been highly anticipated. With the official announcement finally out, the massive traffic immediately propelled the hashtag #Wei Lan’s New Album 《Cat》# to the trending list.
At the same time, one of Wei Lan’s statements from the Bishui Station interview also claimed a spot on the trending list.
Wei Lan: “The inspiration for this album came from Xian Chan Cat Café, which has always been dedicated to helping stray cats and dogs. I promise everyone that a portion of the proceeds from each album sold will be donated to TNR organizations for stray cats and dogs.”
The hashtag #Wei Lan Donates Album Proceeds to TNR Organizations# trended.
By the afternoon, #What Is Xian Chan Cat Café?# had climbed to the 15th spot on the trending list. As the buzz around Wei Lan’s new album continued to grow, its ranking kept rising.
Amidst the overwhelming anticipation, Wei Lan’s studio’s official Weibo account finally released new information about the album.
Candlelight Studio: We are incredibly honored to have had the opportunity to collaborate with the cats of @Xian Chan Cat Café! Wei Lan’s new album 《Cat》 will soon be available on Double X Music, Know Me Music, and Bishui Station. Stay tuned!
The post included the album cover.
The cover was hand-drawn by Pei Huang and later scanned into a digital version. It was an oil painting with vibrant colors that almost forcefully captured the viewer’s attention.
In the image, Wei Lan looked travel-worn. He was carrying a backpack, his head slightly lowered, with a gentle smile clearly visible on his face.
Two identical kittens sat on his backpack, and a golden shaded cat nestled against his cheek on his shoulder.
A snow-white Persian cat and a chubby orange tabby walked beside him, looking up and locking eyes with Wei Lan.
Comments:
“I’m going crazy, I’m dying, I can’t handle this! Why is a single glance so heartwarming?”
“I’m absolutely blown away by this eye contact! It’s so heartwarming. It feels like Lan Lan’s smile is as if he’s found a home. I can tell the cats must really care about him. I’m about to cry. Fluffy cats and Lan Lan are the epitome of beauty in this world!”
“Ahhhh, I’m begging for an unlock of this image! I love it so much. Please, who’s the artist?”
The cover of the Weibo post instantly ignited the fans’ anticipation. As the cover was an integral part of the album, seeing such an exquisite design undoubtedly reassured the fans. Even if it wasn’t another clichéd love song, collaborating with cats would still result in a masterpiece of an album!
Pei Shiyi forwarded the post as promised.
Zhou Yan, responsible for the cat café’s online promotion, noticed the topic’s rising popularity and felt his heart leap into his throat. He hurriedly called Pei Shiyi.
It was only then that Pei Shiyi learned the cat café had actually made it to the trending list. He opened Weibo and skimmed through the comments, most of which were positive, praising the donation efforts and affirming Xian Chan’s contributions.
The comment section under Xian Chan’s latest update was filled with joyous and harmonious reactions.
The heartless boss chuckled, “Scared by all this commotion? Don’t worry, just ignore it for now and get a good night’s sleep.”
Just as online anticipation for 《Cat》 reached its peak, the first track of the album was finally released.
