Although Bo Jin tried every trick in the book to pull his boyfriend’s attention back to himself, Boss Pei, who was fully absorbed in the development of the cat café, clearly didn’t notice. He patted Bo Jin’s head to soothe him, then promptly abandoned his boyfriend to take Tao Yang to meet Pei Huang, personally introducing Pei Huang to the fluffy crew who would soon be working at the new branch.
As someone who actively adopted stray cats, Tao Yang had always loved furry animals. After confirming his job with Pei Shiyi, he proactively reached out to Zhou Yan and began studying video editing.
Pei Huang took a liking to this young man recommended by Pei Shiyi and praised him several times, only to be pestered by Yuan Jing, who had turned back into a cat, for several days before finally calming down.
Just as this matter was settled, the scheduled time for shooting the MV arrived.
The MV couldn’t be completed in a single day, so the cats were divided into several groups, each filming their parts on different days.
The album included eight songs in total, with one main track featuring an MV and the rest audio-only.
The MV told a complete story, with a professional screenwriter incorporating all the cats into the plot.
Wei Lan’s new manager, Du Ran, frowned repeatedly as she waited for Wei Lan to finish getting ready, constantly glancing toward the entrance of the rented filming location.
“What were they thinking?” she muttered. “Wouldn’t it be better to use special effects for the animals? Real cats are too unpredictable, and they’re more easily startled than dogs. If one scratches or bites, it’ll be a huge hassle.”
Du Ran sighed. She hadn’t opposed the idea without reason, but Wei Lan was the boss. As his manager, she couldn’t go against his wishes.
Her assistant, knowing her concerns were valid, scratched his head and said, “But I went to the cat café with Brother Wei. Their cats are really well-behaved.”
Du Ran didn’t respond.
Some people’s mindsets were hard to change. She had always been wary of those sensitive, fragile, furry creatures.
Du Ran glanced toward the entrance for the sixth time, and two figures finally appeared. From a distance, their faces were indistinct, but she could see they were both lightly dressed and had tall, slender builds. From afar, they looked more like models than a cat café owner and his assistant.
They’re here!
Du Ran tensed up, cleared her throat softly, and tried to project an air of authority, only to deflate moments later. As they drew closer, she realized just how tall they were. Even in high heels, she only reached one of their shoulders.
Feeling somewhat helpless, Du Ran straightened her posture. As she adjusted her stance, Pei Shiyi and Bo Jin arrived with the cats in tow.
The moment she saw them clearly, Du Ran’s first thought was: They must be freezing!
The taller of the two was wearing a trench coat, while the other was dressed even more lightly, just a thin knit sweater!
Although spring had arrived, the temperature was still low. Pei Shiyi himself felt warm, but he couldn’t very well go out in such cold weather wearing just a single layer. So, under Miss Penny’s watchful eye, he had put on a spring knit sweater. The misty blue thin sweater made him look even more like a statue carved from cool, pale jade.
Du Ran felt cold just looking at him. Before she could speak, the man in the knit sweater smiled at her, the corners of his lips curling slightly, his eyes brimming with warmth.
It was like basking in the blazing sun, a surge of warmth so intense that Du Ran felt her mind go blank, completely forgetting about the cold.
Bo Jin: “…”
He coughed softly, covering his mouth with his hand.
Du Ran quickly composed herself and said, “Hello, I’m Du Ran, Wei Lan’s manager.”
Pei Shiyi smiled and replied, “Hello, I’m Pei Shiyi. I’ve brought the cats to film the MV.”
Six cats arrived today. Pei Shiyi carried a large backpack, though only one Dan Huang could be tucked inside, and the shop manager was feeling quite cramped in there. Song Gao had woken up early and was now dozing in Pei Shiyi’s arms.
The remaining four cats were draped over Bo Jin. Shang Qiu, the youngest and smallest, had barely grown over the past year. He crouched on Bo Jin’s head, looking around and occasionally meowing to Ru Fu and Xia Zhi, who were perched on Bo Jin’s shoulders.
Ling Ze, meanwhile, was curled up in Bo Jin’s arms, fast asleep.
These little creatures had grown up roughhousing right under Bo Jin’s watchful eyes. To them, the mythical being capable of swallowing rivers and seas was simply Mr. Bo, who cooked their meals. Far from fearing him, they even dared to fight and knead on him.
Du Ran quickly invited the two into the prepared tent. Driven by her appreciation for beautiful creatures, she inquired about the cats’ personalities while stealing glances at the humans.
But after just a few looks, Du Ran felt the temperature gradually dropping. She instinctively looked up to check if any of the tent’s windbreaks were broken, only to meet an exceptionally cold pair of eyes.
Startled, Du Ran’s words caught in her throat, and she froze.
Pei Shiyi wasn’t sure what had happened, but fortunately, Wei Lan arrived just in time after finishing his makeup.
The three chatted for a while. As the equipment was nearly set up, they officially began filming the MV.
Wei Lan’s lead single tells the story of a solitary person meeting cats in an unfamiliar city.
On a rainy day, they took shelter in the solitary person’s humble little home. As Wei Lan’s lyrics put it: “Meeting you was the opening line of a love poem.”
As the story unfolds, the solitary person’s modest home gradually fills with rescued cats. Yun Chao, rescued Fondant, adopted Miss Penny… The other cats would appear as pet cats.
In the storyline, the solitary person slowly stops searching for the next destination every day. They stay, living with the cats in a tiny room that Pei Shiyi felt was barely big enough to turn around in.
In reality, this “rental room where even Boss Pei struggles to turn around” was about ten square meters. There was plenty of space for two human-shaped bosses.
In the previous public service advertisement, Dan Huang played a stray cat with kittens. In this MV, Dan Huang was once again a stray cat with kittens. Who knew why the broad-shouldered, round-bellied, glossy-furred Dan Huang had such a deep connection with “stray cats”?
Wei Lan, without any airs of a rising star, crouched in front of Dan Huang and laughed, “Honestly, Dan Huang doesn’t really look like a stray cat. The special effects team might have a headache later.”
Dan Huang tucked his paws in and sadly sucked in his belly.
Pei Shiyi, with Shang Qiu now perched on him, asked, “Will special effects be needed?”
Wei Lan tilted his head thoughtfully and smiled, “Probably not. Fairy tales don’t need to be that realistic. Our shop manager is just beautiful. Why should he pretend to be ugly?”
Dan Huang trotted over with tiny steps and rubbed against Wei Lan.
Pei Shiyi laughed heartily, “Well, he praises you, and you get all affectionate with him, but not with me?”
Song Gao gently stepped on Pei Shiyi’s shoulder and carefully nestled against his cheek. “Meow.”
I’m affectionate with you, sir.
Pei Shiyi was overwhelmed by this darling’s sticky sweetness and immediately kissed him back.
Shang Qiu grew anxious, pushing his paw pads against Pei Shiyi’s cheek. “Meow!”
Shang Qiu wants kisses, too.
Bo Jin, holding Xia Zhi and Ling Ze, felt the two kittens meow in unison.
Bo Jin: “Jealous?”
Xia Zhi and Ling Ze: “Meow!”
Bo Jin: “Mm, I know. Jealous.”
Ling Ze stepped on Bo Jin, nuzzling his face: “Meow!”
Xia Zhi and Ling Ze want kisses from the boss, too!
Bo Jin nodded: “I know. I’ll go ask the boss for one.”
Xia Zhi is a little lady. Even when anxious, she only circles around people, never meowing loudly. She looked pitifully at Pei Shiyi, occasionally rubbing against Bo Jin: “Meow!”
It’s Ling Ze and Xia Zhi. Ling Ze and Xia Zhi want kisses.
Bo Jin stood up: “Alright, I’ll go now.”
Xia Zhi: “…”
