Weekend chapter: 5/10
By the end of January, before the Lunar New Year arrived, the cat café had already surpassed one million followers on Bishui Station.
During the week it crossed the million-follower mark, fans eagerly anticipated the million-follower celebration while also clamoring for the week’s update. Would there be little birds this week?
Although the cat café’s super topic was filled with various videos or images of cats and birds interacting, fans still preferred the official videos, which always managed to capture the “personalities” of the cats and birds.
And this week’s video cover actually featured a bird! It was the red bird that had appeared once before.
The video opened with a red bird spreading its wings and flying across the screen, its graceful wings and beautiful tail feathers sweeping past the camera. Flaming red and vibrant, it occupied most of the screen.
When the red bird perched on a blanket, it lowered its head and lifted one wing, gently preening its feathers.
Comments:
“I really want to rub my face against these feathers!!”
“Agreed. It must feel as comfortable as burying your face in a cat’s belly!”
“I rewound it. I could replay this preening action a million times!”
“So elegant and dignified, is this a phoenix?”
The bird raised its head and called out toward the opposite side. The camera immediately shifted to a tall man standing there, towering over the crowd behind him. His right forearm was extended in front of him, and a warm, yellow little bird perched on his outstretched finger.
Hearing the adult bird’s call, it fluttered its wings and flew down.
The little bird’s flight feathers had grown a bit, but it wobbled unsteadily as it flew, half-falling, half-flying toward the adult bird. The viewers’ hearts swayed along with the little bird’s shaky flight.
The warm-yellow little bird landed some distance from the adult bird. The viewers collectively sighed in relief. Immediately after, a group of little birds chirped and rushed toward the adult bird.
The yellow little bird hopped a couple of steps, its movements still soft and unsteady. Its thin little legs weren’t quite used to supporting its body weight, causing it to wobble both while walking and flying. It could only watch as the other little birds overtook it.
The yellow bird tilted its head and chirped.
Comments:
“Ahhhh. So cute! Hurry and send it over!”
“Don’t bully the little baby! Send the birdie over!”
As if responding to the comments, the tall man leaned down and blocked the little birds rushing toward the “elder”. The rushing birds bumped into the back of his hand, plopping down onto the low table a few times, stretching their short legs and tilting their heads.
The tall man knelt on one knee in front of the low table. The hand that had blocked the birds was now withdrawn, resting against his chin as he expressionlessly watched the little birdies on the table. Against the man’s imposing figure, the little birds appeared especially tiny and delicate.
Only then did the yellow birdie flutter over unhurriedly, tumbling into the adult bird’s fluffy belly. The adult bird’s abundant feathers even bounced a couple of times.
Comments:
“I want to hold it in my hands and kiss it. I’m so jealous. I wish I had so many little birdies, too.”
“That bird’s belly is amazing! I want to snuggle into it!”
“I can do it! I can!”
While the viewers were obsessively admiring the bird bellies, the long-absent subtitles suddenly appeared on the screen. Several red circles of different sizes appeared, each highlighting a cat’s head.
On a platform on the wall, Song Gao’s golden ears, round forehead, and emerald-green eyes peeked out.
Dan Huang quietly emerged from behind a customer.
In the corner, a stack of cats was piled up, with eight cat heads visible from top to bottom: Mang Zhong, Xiao Man, Ling Ze, Gu Yu, Meng Xia, Qing Ming, Da Shu, and Jing Zhe. The larger cats supported the smaller ones underneath, all secretly observing.
From the cat bed on the climbing frame, two large black-and-white heads peeked out quietly—Yin Zhou and Tong Qian.
Inside the wooden cat house, a pair of lake-green eyes blinked. The stunningly beautiful Miss Penny bit her scarf and poked her head out, while inside the scarf, Sui Shou, Shang Qiu, Ru Fu, and Xia Zhi suddenly emerged.
At the stairway, two fluffy, affectionate furballs—Yun Chao and Fondant—cuddled together. Fondant, a shy little girl, hid behind the bold Yun Chao, her sea-blue eyes blinking.
All the cats in the cat café had made an appearance in this small screen. Most of them probably thought they were hiding well. But for the viewers in front of the screen, the red circles had already given away their positions.
No matter where the fluffy creatures were hiding, their eyes were fixed on the adult bird on the table.
The entire scene was a perfect depiction of “secretly observing”.
As the adult bird let out a clear and melodious chirp, Song Gao, the one on top of the pile, seemed to receive some kind of affirmation. He jumped down from the platform and dashed straight toward the adult bird, only to be gently covered by its magnificent wings.
Bullet comments:
“I’m dead, I’m dead. Why do I feel like this bird has the aura of the boss? So affectionate!”
“It’s not an illusion. This bird is really affectionate. It even grooms the cat!”
“My bird only chases me around and pecks me QAQ.”
“So heartwarming! I want Song Gao to jump into my arms, too! I want to bury my face in the bird’s belly!”
“I don’t know if it’s just me, but I feel like the cats are looking at the bird so tenderly.”
What made them even more envious and jealous was that the man who had been used as a chest pillow by Song Gao in the previous video actually cuddled the affectionate cat and bird furballs into his arms.
Viewers: Aaaaah, let me do it!
As the adult bird held Song Gao and groomed his feathers, all the other cats rushed out from their hiding spots and dashed toward the adult bird.
Perhaps because the target wasn’t the boss, the cats unceremoniously plopped onto the man, creating a chaotic mess of fluff. Crisp bird chirps mingled with various meows, while the aloof Yun Chao simply perched on top of the man’s head, looking down on everyone.
The man serving as the climbing frame below still wore an icy expression, but his eyes seemed to say, “I’m done with life.”
The viewers in front of the screen were both jealous and laughing hysterically: Hahahahaha.
Top comment on the video:
Fatty: Truly the cat café’s signature style. It’s super heartwarming at the beginning, gradually turning silly as it progresses. The resolution is either incredibly healing or… even sillier. By the way, let’s get that million-follower celebration going! New merchandise, please! Any branch stores? Boss, hurry up!
This comment sat firmly at the top of the hot comments, with 30,000 likes.
When Zhou Yan saw the comment, he scratched his head. It really wouldn’t be good not to give a million-follower celebration. Besides, after reaching a million followers, Bishui Station would issue a corresponding medal. The cat café would officially become one of Bishui Station’s major UP accounts, one of the most famous in the pet category.
Even the number of promotion and advertising requests had increased.
Tomorrow, he should discuss the million-follower celebration with the boss. We need to come up with something sincere.
…
While fans clamored for the million-follower celebration to go live, Yuan Jing finally wrapped up his previous work commitments and brought Jian Zhou to the cat café.
Third Floor of the Cat Café
Pei Shiyi remained in his phoenix form, nestled in Bo Jin’s arms.
Bo Jin’s hand was tucked under Pei Shiyi’s wing, his fingers gently stroking the phoenix’s warm feathers.
Pei Shiyi: “…”
Got nothing better to do with your hands?
He was tempted to give Bo Jin a smack with his wing, but held back, mindful of the other little phoenixes dozing on him. Just then, Yuan Jing and Jian Zhou arrived before them, forcing Pei Shiyi to fold his wings and put on a semblance of dignity.
Yuan Jing set down the suitcase. Jian Zhou, perched on top, meowed at the two.
Pei Shiyi smiled in response. “Good afternoon.”
Yuan Jing: “Sorry it took so long to hand over my work. I’ve reviewed the branch expansion plan you sent, Your Highness. It’s very thorough. But are you sure you can entrust the branch to me? Won’t the employees who joined the cat café earlier have any objections?”
Pei Shiyi chuckled. “Why would they? Dan Huang is still young. If he were to leave me and manage a shop on his own, he’d probably be quite flustered.”
There were others capable of stable transformations, but none were suitable.
Miss Penny had the ability but seemed unwilling to interact with humans as a human for the time being.
That was the answer Pei Shiyi received after consulting her.
Pei Shiyi: “After much thought, I still think Yuan Jing is the most suitable.”
Yuan Jing’s cultivation had already earned him the title of “Great Demon”. Having lived in human society for over two hundred years, he was well-versed in its rules.
In terms of survival skills in human society, he was far more reliable than Pei Shiyi’s rather unreliable uncle.
Yuan Jing: “Do you truly trust me?”
The Crown Prince had little interaction with him. Wealth was an external concern not worth fretting over, but what about the cats who would come to work at the cat café? Could His Highness really entrust them to him? Or were there other conditions, like swearing an oath to face heavenly punishment if he broke the law?
This figure, acknowledged by all Four Directions and crowned Crown Prince before even reaching a century after hatching, hardly seemed like someone who would trust easily.
Pei Shiyi slightly spread his wings, shaking off Bo Jin’s wandering dragon claws. He sent the little phoenixes tumbling onto Bo Jin’s lap. “I may not trust you, but I trust my uncle completely.”
After a faint red glow, Pei Shiyi returned to his human form, standing beside Bo Jin.
Yuan Jing abruptly stood up, nearly causing Jian Zhou, who had just leaped onto his shoulder, to fall. “Lord Pei Huang?!”
The bedroom door gently opened, and a man in a shirt and trousers walked out.
He bore some resemblance to Pei Shiyi—tall and slender.
To be precise, it was Pei Shiyi who resembled him.
Bo Jin, cradling the little phoenixes Pei Shiyi had shaken off, stiffened slightly. Pei Huang was awake? The question now was, how should he address Pei Huang?
Pei Huang walked over, placing a hand on Pei Shiyi’s shoulder. “My Xiao Shiyi has grown so sensible.”
Pei Shiyi: “Uncle…”
Pei Huang was even taller than Pei Shiyi, with deep-set, striking eyes. He gently patted Pei Shiyi’s shoulder, then beckoned to Yuan Jing. “Come here.”
Yuan Jing slowly approached Pei Huang.
Pei Huang: “Little Yuan Jing has grown up, too.”
Yuan Jing’s fingers twitched, then tightly grasped Pei Huang’s sleeve, receiving a comforting pat on the hand from him.
Silently standing up but not daring to speak, Bo Jin thought to himself: Even the way he comforts a cat is so similar. Did Pei Huang raise Shiyi?
Pei Huang, cradling his “big cat” who had already cultivated into human form, turned his gaze to Bo Jin: “This is… the Zhulong, right? Sorry, I just noticed. How should I address you?”
Yuan Jing thought to himself: He clearly saw it long ago.
Pei Shi Yi coughed lightly. His little uncle really had been dramatic for centuries.
After all, one couldn’t expect much reliability from someone who insisted on staging a suicide attempt in front of his nephew.
Bo Jin: “…Bo Jin. Greetings… Little Uncle.”
Pei Huang: “…”
Shameless.
