Chapter 133: Come home with me for the New Year
After Lin Yanran woke up, he had only been hugging Gu Siye for a few minutes before the door was pushed open.
Immediately following that, a nurse’s sharp gasp echoed through the room.
“Mr. Gu, how did you end up over here?!”
Hearing this, the two let go of each other and turned to look at the nurse.
The nurse hurriedly rushed to his side and crouched down to check his leg. “Your leg and ribs are both injured; you need to rest in bed! If you get out of bed like this, your bones might fracture again!”
Lin Yanran looked at Gu Siye in surprise.
Since the other man had been sitting beside him earlier, he had assumed Gu Siye only had an injury to his hand. He hadn’t expected there to be so many other injuries on his body.
As Lin Yanran looked down, he indeed saw that one of Gu Siye’s legs was wrapped in bandages.
So, because he was worried about the still-unconscious Yanran, Gu Siye had actually endured a body full of injuries and struggled all this way just to visit him…
Lin Yanran gazed at Gu Siye; he understood that as long as he hadn’t woken up, the other man wouldn’t have been able to find any peace of mind to recover.
Gu Siye gently stroked his hair to signal that he shouldn’t worry, then smiled and apologized to the nurse, “I’m truly sorry; it won’t happen again.”
Back home, after the news of the car accident was exposed, although Siyu had already issued a statement saying the two were fine, many paparazzi still followed them trying to get an exclusive.
The paparazzi’s secret filming would cause a lot of trouble, so the next day, after confirming that Gu Siye’s condition was stable, the Lin family arranged for their private plane to quietly fly the two directly back to the country to avoid being disturbed.
Aside from being unconscious for a few days, Lin Yanran had almost no injuries on his body; his head just needed a period of observation and a follow-up check later. The rest were just some minor skin grazes that weren’t very serious.
Gu Siye, on the other hand, needed to stay in bed for a while to recover.
Consequently, after returning home, the already discharged Lin Yanran basically ran to the VIP ward every day.
The news was kept strictly under wraps this time, so almost no one knew where Gu Siye was, making the ward quite peaceful.
Lin Yanran sat beside the hospital bed, head lowered as he seriously peeled an orange for Gu Siye.
Most people eat oranges by cutting them directly into four segments with a knife, but Lin Yanran felt they weren’t as sweet that way. He liked to peel the skin off entirely and eat them slowly, segment by segment.
In the previous world, Gu Siye often peeled them for him like this.
Every time their classmates saw it, they would joke that Gu Siye’s patience was so good that he couldn’t treat his wife any better.
The orange was finished in a short while, but Lin Yanran found that his peeling was quite mediocre. It was nowhere near as good as Gu Siye’s.
He went to wash his hands, and when he came out, he found that Gu Siye had woken up.
“Would you like some water?”
Lin Yanran pulled a tissue to dry his hands, preparing to pour some water for Gu Siye.
But the other man shook his head, his eyes landing on the orange in the fruit plate nearby.
“You peeled that for me?”
“Mm.”
Lin Yanran tore the orange apart and handed a segment to Gu Siye. “Teacher Gu, try it and see if it’s sweet.”
Gu Siye didn’t open his mouth; instead, he looked at Lin Yanran with a smile. “I’m injured, so it’s not very convenient. You feed me.”
Lin Yanran looked doubtfully at the orange he had placed by the other’s lips. “Am I not feeding you right now?”
Gu Siye still didn’t open his mouth to eat. Instead, when those upturned peach blossom eyes looked at Yanran’s lips, his gaze was burning, affectionate, and seductive.
“Teacher Yanran, will you feed me?” Gu Siye asked softly.
Lin Yanran didn’t say a word, placing the orange segment between his own lips.
He lowered his eyes and lightly bit a corner of the orange, leaning over to rest against Gu Siye’s chest.
Beneath that cold expression was a most enticing action.
Gu Siye’s eyes darkened. He held Lin Yanran’s head and ambiguously, sensually licked his lips, slowly and deliberately letting Lin Yanran feed the orange into his mouth.
The orange juice melted on the tip of the tongue, so sweet it felt like it could steal one’s soul.
Gu Siye wantonly occupied every inch of Lin Yanran’s lips and tongue, biting and repeatedly sucking the full flesh of his lips.
Lin Yanran was kissed until his whole body felt weak and his heart felt numb; he could only close his eyes and lean half-weighted against Gu Siye.
Low, faint breaths broke the silence of the hospital room; every inch of the deep kiss was intoxicating.
The two spent a long time eating a single segment of orange until their breathing was unstable and things nearly sparked out of control.
When they separated, Lin Yanran’s lips were red and slightly swollen.
He stood up and straightened his rumpled clothes, his fair face flushed with a faint pink glow that was exceptionally beautiful.
Gu Siye looked at this layer of pink and was finally satisfied.
The man who had claimed “it’s inconvenient to eat because I’m injured” now took a segment of orange with one hand and put it in his mouth. “This orange really is sweet.”
Lin Yanran discovered that after merging the memories of the previous world, Gu Siye had become increasingly roguish and shameless.
Gu Siye was finally discharged after recovering in the hospital for over a month.
During this time, Lin Yanran had been by his side, taking care of him almost the entire time.
Because of this, he noticed that while his grandfather, cousin, and some relatives had visited at the very beginning of the accident, his parents had never once appeared.
He tried hard to recall past experiences but found that he knew very little about Gu Siye’s family.
“Teacher Gu, I want to tell my parents about us.”
Lin Yanran had been thinking about this all month.
After experiencing so much with Gu Siye, especially this brush with death, he wanted them to be together openly and honestly.
He could handle not being understood by outsiders, but he wanted to formally introduce him to his parents and family. This was his boyfriend, his lover.
Gu Siye was clearly very surprised; he froze for a moment before asking, “What if your family doesn’t understand or support us?”
“They’ll find out eventually anyway. It’s better for me to say it directly than for them to stumble upon it.” Lin Yanran looked at Gu Siye. “Besides, I don’t want to keep Teacher Gu hidden away.”
Gu Siye was clearly pleased by the last sentence, his eyes filled with laughter. His lover was always so straightforward, so he wouldn’t object.
“If the family doesn’t agree, don’t be too anxious. Take it slow.”
Lin Yanran promised, “Okay.”
Gu Siye met his gaze, then looked out the window.
“But I have no way to introduce Teacher Yanran to my parents in person.”
Gu Siye paused. “They passed away when I was born.”
As he spoke, Gu Siye’s tone was casual, explaining his family background in one light sentence.
It hurt Lin Yanran to hear it.
He suddenly thought back to when they first got together and the other man had flown directly to Australia on New Year’s Eve just to find him and give him his first New Year’s blessing.
So that’s how it is…
*
When Lin Yanran returned home, his mother was dancing in the dance studio, and his father was reading a finance magazine.
As soon as Lin Yanran stepped inside, his father noticed him. “Ranran is back.”
After saying that, he put down the magazine and sent someone to notify Xie Roufei.
Lin Yanran wasn’t in a hurry to mention Gu Siye. First, he watched his mother dance for a while, and then he accompanied his father in a game of chess.
Naturally, Lin Yanran was no match for his father; out of three rounds, he only managed a draw in the second.
Seeing that he was about to lose the third round, Lin Yanran laughed and tossed the chess pieces into the box. “I can’t go on. I haven’t won once in all these years.”
Just as he finished speaking, Xie Roufei walked by.
She glanced at Lin Yanhui. “Why don’t you let the child win for once?”
Lin Yanhui smiled at his son, saying he definitely would next time, and didn’t react much to Lin Yanran’s mention of “all these years.”
After the chess game, Lin Yanran curled up on the sofa to browse his phone.
The TV was playing some dramas.
His father peeled an orange for him. Just as he handed it over, a scene appeared on TV where parents were asking their child about their dating situation.
And so, he also asked Lin Yanran seemingly casually, “Son, is there anyone you like?”
Lin Yanran took a bite of the orange and suddenly felt something was off.
His parents weren’t the type to pressure him into marriage; for them to bring this up was very suspicious.
He looked at his father in confusion. “What is it, Dad?”
Lin Yanhui smiled. “If you have someone you like and you’re together, remember to bring them back so your mom and I can get to know them.”
This sounded even more off to Lin Yanran.
He looked at his father and found the man’s expression perfectly normal, as if he were just speaking casually.
But just as he began to wonder if he was being too sensitive, his mother changed the channel.
The movie channel happened to be broadcasting a film starring Gu Siye.
Xie Roufei, who was also eating an orange, looked at Gu Siye on the screen and praised with a smile, “Xiao Gu’s acting is quite good.”
Hearing this, Lin Yanran could no longer sit still. He made up an excuse to return to his room and called Lin Yunzhe.
For some reason, he felt his parents already knew about him and Gu Siye.
“Brother, I need to tell you something.”
In front of his brother, Lin Yanran had nothing to hide.
He figured that through Lin Muyang’s news, his brother probably already knew about 70 or 80 percent of it, so he told him directly, “I’m dating Gu Siye.”
On the other end of the phone, Lin Yunzhe gave an incredibly calm “Oh” and even asked back, “And?”
Lin Yanran hesitated for a few seconds. “Do Mom and Dad… already know?”
Today was just too abnormal…
Lin Yunzhe played with a lighter in his hand and chuckled.
“Whether they know for sure, I’m not certain, but when you were unconscious after the car accident, Gu Siye held you extremely tightly, and you never let go of his hand…”
Lin Yanran: “…”
Lin Yunzhe: “Oh, and did you and Gu Siye do something right after you woke up?”
Lin Yanran’s heart skipped a beat. “What?”
He hurriedly tried to remember.
When he first woke up… he and Gu Siye had hugged, and… they had kissed.
Lin Yanran’s current mood was exceptionally complicated.
Could it be that his parents saw?
Just as he thought this, his brother answered for him.
“Mom and Dad probably saw. They even told me not to go over and disturb you.”
Lin Yanran: “…”
“Oh, I see…”
Lin Yanran felt his face getting hot. Admitting it to his parents was one thing, but being caught by them while kissing Gu Siye… that was quite embarrassing…
After getting a definitive answer from his brother, Lin Yanran stopped agonizing over it. After dinner that evening, he confessed directly to his parents.
“Mom, Dad, I’m in a relationship.”
After saying it, he scanned their reactions; both were smiling and not surprised at all.
Despite this, Lin Yanran spoke very solemnly to his family: “He is the person I want to live with for the rest of my life. We are both very serious about this relationship.”
Having said that, he took a deep breath and spoke plainly, “His name is Gu Siye. You know him.”
Sure enough, his parents showed no negative reaction to the name, nor any surprise; it seemed they had already silently accepted it.
Lin Yanran was incredibly grateful that his parents didn’t oppose them.
“Dad, Mom, you must have known beforehand. Sorry for only telling you now.”
Xie Roufei stroked her child’s hair and said softly, “When you were in the car accident, we had a feeling.”
“But in that moment of crisis, for him to think of you first, he must care about you very much.”
Undoubtedly, Gu Siye’s desperate protection of Lin Yanran served as a major point in his favor with Lin Yanhui and Xie Roufei.
Initially, when they learned their child was attracted to the same sex, they were somewhat shocked.
However, they were open-minded people. Moreover, when they remembered the immense suffering their child had endured, especially the fact that he had once been so depressed he contemplated suicide, they felt that nothing else mattered.
As long as their child was alive and happy, that was enough.
Xie Roufei spoke gently, “Xiao Gu is a good person. As long as you two are well and can live a happy life together, that’s all that matters.”
Lin Yanhui nodded in agreement. “Find a suitable day and bring him back so we can formally get to know each other. You can’t keep him without a formal introduction forever.”
Lin Yanran hugged his mother and father, feeling touched. He felt incredibly lucky to have the best family in the world.
Soon, Gu Siye, who was undergoing rehabilitation training, received a WeChat message from Lin Yanran with just one line:
Teacher Gu, come home with me for the New Year.
