Lu Qingyan felt that an even bigger pit awaited him if he didn’t find his father.
He had originally intended to send someone to look for him, but just a moment ago, he decided to go himself to see what was going on.
“How long will it take?” Jiang Nanshu asked.
Lu Qingyan hesitated for a few seconds before saying, “If it’s fast, it will take three or four days; if it’s slow, it will take about a week. I will get back to you as soon as possible.”
Jiang Nanshu didn’t stop him, hugging his waist: “Come back soon.”
Lu Qingyan chuckled, his chest heaving: “Will you miss me?”
Jiang Nanshu yawned: “The child will miss you.”
“Stubborn.” He scoffed.
“Alright, go to sleep.”
Sleeping in Lu Qingyan’s warm embrace, Jiang Nanshu drifted off to sleep.
The next morning, Lu Qingyan was nowhere to be seen.
He sent a message to Jiang Nanshu and then left the capital.
He should be on the plane by now.
Jiang Nanshu sat up in bed; it was already nine in the morning.
The nanny had prepared breakfast and gently called Jiang Nanshu to come down for a meal. Then she brought up the matter of her returning to the Jiang family home.
Jiang Nanshu shook her head: “I don’t need to go back. I can stay here. Besides, my parents live across the street, so it’s fine.”
The nanny thought about it and agreed; moving back and forth would be troublesome, so she let Jiang Nanshu go.
When Ji’s mother came to Jiang Nanshu’s place, she inquired about Lu Qingyan’s schedule. Upon learning that Lu Qingyan had gone abroad on business, Ji’s mother visited Jiang Nanshu much more frequently.
She sat on the sofa, knitting a sweater.
Seeing this, Jiang Nanshu said, “Mom, you don’t need to make the clothes yourself. I’ll buy them later.”
Ji’s mother glared at her: “This is different. This is Grandma’s love for the baby. It has a different meaning than buying it. I’m doing this while I can still make it. When I get old and can’t see clearly, I won’t be able to make it anymore. Besides, I sewed all your clothes from when you were little, stitch by stitch. What you have, my dear grandchild should have too. I don’t know if it’s a boy or a girl, so how about I knit one in pink and one in blue?”
Ji’s mother’s words stirred up Jiang Nanshu’s memories again.
Back then, the family was poor, and most of her and her younger brother Ji Ze’s clothes were made by their mother. With just a piece of cloth and an old-fashioned sewing machine, she could make a garment.
It was only later, when she grew up and became more concerned with her appearance, that her mother started buying her pretty dresses.
Jiang Nanshu watched her mother’s hands work and didn’t stop her. Instead, she sat next to her and watched her knit attentively, occasionally interjecting with a question.
Ji’s father stopped raising pigs. Sometimes he would go downstairs to stroll around the neighborhood, playing chess with the wealthy elderly men living in the pavilion.
Jiang Nanshu would inquire about Lu Qingyan’s progress every day. Sometimes he would reply instantly, sometimes he was too busy and would reply after a while. He would video call her at night to ask how she was doing and tell her to go to bed early. He never missed a message from Jiang Nanshu.
A week passed quickly.
Jiang Nanshu would occasionally visit Xu Xi, who was currently in a relationship and seemed quite happy. Then she would visit Yan Yidan, whose situation seemed much more serious compared to Xu Xi’s.
Jiang Nanshu only found out after asking that she had rejected Jiang Yunchuan’s confession.
This surprised Jiang Nanshu somewhat. When she arrived at Yan Yidan’s office, she was sitting on a leather sofa.
She asked, “Didn’t you say a few months ago that you were my future sister-in-law?”
