Since her mother had brought it up herself, she no longer needed to scheme for a way to confirm it.

With Rong Ruyue’s approval, Xu Linlang quickly started packing her things, eager to head to Lilan Military Academy as soon as possible.

The longer she delayed, the greater the risk her mother might change her mind.

Just as she dug out a spatial storage trunk, a line of servants entered one after another, carrying all her school necessities neatly laid out on trays, placing them in her room one by one.

Everything was already prepared, so she could simply place them directly into the storage trunk without lifting a finger.

Rong Ruyue had seen to every detail, worried her daughter might lack something once she lived in the dorms.

The result was that Xu Linlang didn’t even have to go through the process of packing herself.

She lounged on her bed, watching her kitten, while the little ball of fluff fixated on the servants as they organized her belongings.

Come to think of it, the kitten had shown the same level of intense focus earlier when she was speaking with Rong Ruyue. It almost felt like it understood every word they said.

Unable to resist, Xu Linlang reached out and rubbed the snowball-like head. “Snowball, I’m going to school soon.”

She expected the kitten to dodge, but instead it narrowed its eyes and tilted its head, rubbing against her palm.

The tiny, affectionate gesture melted her heart. Hugging the kitten to her chest, she murmured, “I really don’t want to leave you here… but I don’t know if the school even allows pets in the dorms…”

The kitten’s ears folded back as if it were sinking into sadness. It was still just a baby, barely the size of two palms, with a round head capped in soft fluff.

It lowered its head pitifully, tail swishing gently against her arm.

Completely charmed, she couldn’t bear to make it sad. Without thinking, she blurted, “I’ll take you with me to school.”

The kitten immediately perked up, golden eyes shining as it looked at her.

To Xu Linlang, it was unbearably adorable. As for how to sneak it into the academy—well, with her current status, there would definitely be a way.

She just couldn’t bring herself to leave it alone at home. After all, it had just been rescued from a brutal fighting arena—it needed companionship more than anything.

Feeding it really had worked wonders; now the kitten was attached to her, just as she’d hoped.

What she didn’t know was that this display was all deliberate. This was Qiye’s way of ensuring he could accompany her to Lilan Military Academy.

He had once been admitted to the academy’s Mecha Division as the top student, but after his Zerg heritage was exposed and the military tried to capture him, his results were nullified, and the first-place ranking was passed on to someone else.

People said he had ulterior motives in applying, but in truth, all he wanted was to attend his father’s alma mater.

He could never forget the look of pride and nostalgia on his father’s face whenever he mentioned Lilan Military Academy. It was there his father had met his mother and found love.

Qiye wanted to know what kind of school had shaped his father’s youth—and whether anything his father had left behind might still be there.

More than that, he had to grow stronger. Only the strong could avoid being trampled.

That was why he had to go to Lilan Military Academy.

But guilt flickered in the kitten’s eyes. To achieve his goal, he was already learning to manipulate others—to manipulate the very girl who had saved his life.

Faced with Xu Linlang’s earnest gaze, he turned his head away. This was the path he had chosen; he couldn’t waver for anyone.

Xu Linlang, of course, knew nothing of his inner turmoil. She untied the silk ribbon of her dress to change into her nightclothes.

The red ribbon slipped across her pale fingers, revealing the delicate skin below her collarbone.

At first, the kitten didn’t react—until it realized she was undressing.

His pupils contracted sharply, and he whipped his head away.

His fur puffed out as he bolted to the corner, burying his face.

This girl… how could she just strip in front of others like this?! Did she have no sense of danger at all?!

Qiye had completely forgotten that, to Xu Linlang, he was nothing more than a tiny kitten.

Who worries about changing clothes in front of their pet?

After a while, he felt himself scooped back up again. Xu Linlang looked puzzled. “Why’d you suddenly run off to the corner?”

“Huh? Your ears are burning up—are you okay?”

The kitten shook its head frantically in denial.

Seeing that, Xu Linlang didn’t think much of it, assuming he was just adjusting to the new environment.

She tucked him into bed with her, ready to sleep. Just as she turned out the lights, a knock sounded at the door.
