TSFLIP Chapter 800

In his arms, Feng Guang’s face turned an even deeper shade of red than before. She was surrounded by his clean, pleasant scent, and as her awareness seemed to drift away, she gave up resisting altogether. Tilting her head, she rested it against his shoulder. For the first time, she thought that being treated like a child wasn’t such a bad thing after all—

At least, it came with certain benefits.

But some people simply didn’t know when to hold their tongues. Lianzi came storming over, furious, grabbed the corner of Mu Feng’s robe, and shouted, “You scoundrel! Let go of my lady right now!”

Scoundrel. Of all the words to describe Mu Feng, that was probably the least fitting.

Feng Guang quickly lifted her head. “Lianzi, don’t talk nonsense!”

Qi Yuan also stepped forward, giving Lianzi a cold glare. “Watch your manners. You must not be rude to the young master.”

“So what if I’m rude?” Lianzi snapped, her usual meekness gone. “He’s the one touching my lady! What are you going to do about it—bite me?” she shouted, glaring at Qi Yuan’s perpetually expressionless face.

Qi Yuan was good at curing illnesses and arguing with people, but when it came to dealing with unreasonable women, he was completely helpless. Normally, he’d have solved the problem with a single silver needle and ended the noise right there—but right now, he couldn’t do that. So he turned to Mu Feng for help instead.

Mu Feng, however, remained calm. He wasn’t angry in the slightest; instead, he smiled gently at Lianzi. “You must be Feng Guang’s personal maid, Lianzi.”

“So what if I am?” she snapped.

“I heard,” he continued unhurriedly, “that you were abandoned by your father at the gates of the Xia estate. The butler took pity on you and brought you in to serve Miss Feng Guang.”

“What’s your point?” she said sharply. “Anyone at the Xia estate could’ve told you that. Just because you know where I came from doesn’t make you special!”

Mu Feng’s voice stayed calm and deliberate. “Perhaps… I could help you find the father who abandoned you back then.”

Lianzi’s expression finally changed. She froze, then quickly released his robe and stumbled backward several steps, her face going pale. “Miss, I’ll go get help!” she blurted—and then turned and ran off like the wind.

A drop of cold sweat slid down Feng Guang’s forehead. She glanced at Mu Feng, half reproachful. “Before she came to the Xia estate, Lianzi’s father used to abuse her—sometimes he’d beat or curse her, and other times, he’d break her bones. You really shouldn’t have brought him up to scare her.”

Mu Feng looked mildly surprised. “So her father was that cruel,” he said with quiet regret. “I only thought she might want to show him how well she’s living now—to make him feel ashamed or jealous. I didn’t realize there was more to it.”

“Exactly,” Feng Guang said. “That’s why you shouldn’t say things like that so casually.”

“You’re right,” Mu Feng replied softly. “Lesson learned.”

Her cheeks flushed again. She suddenly felt like a novice trying to show off her skills before a master craftsman. Noticing Qi Yuan’s sharp, sword-like gaze fixed on her, she shifted uneasily. “I should get going,” she muttered. “You should put me down now.”

He did as she asked, setting her gently on her feet. “Leaving already?” he asked with a small smile.

“Well, I don’t want Lianzi to actually bring my father here,” she said quickly. “Anyway, now that I see you’re all right, I can relax.” She turned to leave—only for him to suddenly catch her by the wrist.

He placed a small candy in her palm. “A merchant from the Western Regions brought these. I thought you might like it.”

She blinked. “Just one?”

“Good things shouldn’t be enjoyed all at once,” he said with a faint smile. “It’s because they’re rare that we learn to cherish them, don’t you think?”

“Oh… I get it.” She nodded, then paused before walking away. “So, if I come again next time… will you give me another one?”

His smile was as gentle as when they’d first met. “Of course.”
