A man dressed in a light blue robe approached, carrying a bowl of medicine. His face was calm and expressionless—until his gaze unexpectedly fell on Fengguang. Then, just for a moment, something flickered in his eyes. He looked at her again, this time with unmistakable hostility.

Fengguang immediately sensed it. That second look wasn’t neutral—it was sharp and cold.

Why would he be hostile toward her?

“That’s right.”

The man in blue set the bowl of medicine down on the stone table, then stepped back respectfully. Other than that first glance, he didn’t look at her again.

“Fengguang,” Shufeng asked with a faint smile, “you’ve heard of Doctor Qi before?”

“I’ve heard my father mention him,” she said with a little pout. “He called him some kind of ‘miracle doctor.’ But now that I’ve seen him—well, I’m not that impressed.”

If he were truly the so-called miracle doctor who could cure anything, then why hadn’t he cured Shufeng’s illness already?

Qi Yuan’s voice was cool and steady as he said, “Kidneys weak, afraid of the cold, liver overheated, picky with food—by old age, she’ll be plagued by all kinds of ailments.”

Fengguang froze.

“Doctor Qi will take his leave.”
And just like that—calm, efficient, and without a trace of hesitation—he turned and walked away.

When he was gone, Fengguang finally snapped out of her daze. She pointed at herself. “Wait—he was talking about me? The weak kidneys, liver fire, and all that?”

“Doctor Qi’s medical skills are among the finest in the world,” Shufeng said, a soft smile curving his lips. His eyes, dark as obsidian, glimmered gently in the light.

Fengguang clenched her jaw but had no comeback.

“From now on,” he said, “you mustn’t be picky with your food anymore.”

“I’m not picky!” she protested. “I just… eat more meat to keep up my strength, that’s all.”
She hesitated, remembering that she hadn’t actually touched a single vegetable in days.
Okay—maybe more than a few days.

Feeling guilty, she glanced away.

“Fengguang,” Shufeng said quietly, “you’re meant to live a long and healthy life. You should start taking care of your body now.”

“…Okay,” she mumbled, her gaze wandering before she muttered under her breath, “That Doctor Qi has such a bad attitude. I don’t like him.”

“Then I’ll make sure he doesn’t appear in front of you again,” Shufeng said easily.

“No, you can’t!” she said quickly, suddenly serious. “You still need him to treat you! You shouldn’t fall out with him—what if he puts something weird in your medicine out of spite?”

“Doctor Qi isn’t that kind of person.”

“People aren’t always what they seem! You can’t be too careful.” She paused, realizing that didn’t sound like something a six-year-old should say, and added hastily, “That’s what my dad always tells me.”

“Your father is a wise man,” Shufeng said with a soft chuckle. “You’re right—one should always be cautious. Fengguang, you should even be a little cautious with me.”

“How do you know I’m not?” she said, grinning up at him playfully.

He laughed under his breath. “Then that’s even better.”

But when his smile faltered, as if his thoughts had drifted somewhere else, she quickly grabbed his hand and said, “I’m just kidding! You’re way too nice—I’d never be on guard against you.”
