TSFLIP Chapter 753

Clones had always been forbidden. Legally and morally, their existence was an endlessly controversial issue. It wasn’t as though people had never considered using a clone’s body to cure someone with a terminal illness. But clones weren’t mindless, and they weren’t without feelings.

A clone was still a person—even if, from the moment of birth, his fate was sealed and his life would never be long.

At least, that was how Feng Guang saw it.

Han Qi gave her a soft smile as she sat there silently. “Later, I found out that Han Chen had been fostered at the old steward’s home. He went to school like a normal kid and lived a life I never got to experience. Maybe it’ll sound hypocritical of me to say this… but I was glad he got to live like that.”

“And what about you?” she asked in a low voice. Her tone was calm, but it carried the faintest tremor.

Han Qi smiled again, light and fleeting, like a wisp of cloud dissolving into melancholy. “I’ll try my best to live as long as I can. Though… I can’t promise how much time that will be.”

“But—”

“No. I would never sacrifice Han Chen just to keep myself alive.” He knew what she was thinking. His lips curved in the faintest smile, like a ripple across still water, gone in an instant. “He has his own life, and I have mine. We are two separate people. His existence in this world is not as my spare parts.”

“I understand…” She felt the same way, but her chest ached all the same. Because it meant he wasn’t going to follow the plan his father had prepared, and without it, his chances of survival were even slimmer. Yet she couldn’t accept that so easily. With a flicker of desperate hope, she asked, “Is there really… no other way to treat your illness?”

“Feng Guang, don’t be sad.” Han Qi leaned closer, his pale face drawing near, the depth of his dark eyes calm and unshaken. “This is my fate. I’ve long since accepted it. But I’ve never been the type to surrender. Look at me—I still manage to enjoy every day, don’t I?”

“But… but…” She sniffled, her voice breaking. “But I don’t want you to die. I want you to live.”

He brushed her hair gently, lips curving into a warm smile. “Feng Guang, you have to understand—life doesn’t always go the way we want. What we can do is make the days we have—before the very last one comes—happy. For ourselves, and for the people around us.”

The way he said it, calm and unshaken, was almost too steady—so steady it left her with a crushing sense of helpless despair.

He used his thumb to wipe away the tear trailing from the corner of her eye. “Don’t feel sad for me. I’m still standing right here in front of you, aren’t I?”

“I don’t understand…” She clutched his hand tightly. “I don’t understand why you have to bear this pain. You’re such a good person… and there are still so many things you haven’t done.”

“But I’m still here—right in front of you.” His eyes softened as he pulled her gently into his arms. “And I’m not as good as you think. I know I should keep my distance from you, but I can’t help wanting to be closer. That makes me selfish, too.”
