Although Fengliu was a clever little rascal, he was still just a kid. He’d assumed that since she was a proper princess, even if she got mad, she’d care about her dignity and wouldn’t retaliate against a child. What he didn’t expect was that this particular princess didn’t play by the rules.
He had buried his memories of Wutong Alley deep down, never to be touched again. As Young Master Fengliu, he had never been treated this way before. His lips pressed together tightly as he stared stubbornly at Fengguang, doing everything he could not to let the tears fall.
Fengguang was disappointed—she had been looking forward to seeing him cry.
Fengmiyin stepped forward and gently took the plate off Fengliu’s head, patting his back silently in comfort. Standing beside her, Meng Xi started to speak, “Fengguang…”
“Address me as Princess.”
“…Yes, Princess,” Meng Xi quickly corrected himself after sensing Fengmiyin’s gaze.
“Fengliu is still young…”
“Yes, and since he’s young and ignorant, I’ve already disciplined him for you. There’s no need for you to punish him again,” Fengguang said with a smile. She lifted her hand, and one of the palace maids, quick on the uptake, immediately passed her a handkerchief. She casually wiped the plum residue from her hands, looking every bit the imperious royal she was.
Meng Xi was momentarily speechless. He and Fengmiyin hadn’t planned on punishing Fengliu anyway, so now the usual polite line—“He’s just a child, please don’t be angry, Your Highness”—no longer applied.
To be honest, he hadn’t even known he had a child until recently—and all the while, he’d been professing his affection to Fengguang. It was Fengguang who had broken the news to him about his son. Every time he faced her now, a wave of guilt crept in.
If there were a phrase to describe how Meng Xi felt, it would probably be: like a man facing his ex-girlfriend after they broke up because he cheated.
Except Fengguang wasn’t even his ex. Which somehow made it worse.
Fengmiyin glanced at the stain on Fengguang’s sleeve and offered apologetically, “I’ll have a new outfit sent to Your Highness to make up for it.”
“No need,” Fengguang replied lightly. “I’ve still got plenty of clothes from Si—my royal brother. One outfit from you won’t make a difference.”
Summer Fengxue had a strange obsession with giving her clothing and jewelry. At this point, her palace wardrobe and jewelry boxes were overflowing with his gifts.
“Regardless, what Fengliu did was wrong,” Fengmiyin said as she cleaned the bits of plum from the boy’s hair and clothes, shooting a cool glance at Meng Xi as she did.
For some reason, Meng Xi suddenly felt a surge of irritation—not at Fengmiyin, but at Fengguang. He said in a low voice, “Fengliu is only five years old, Your Highness. There’s no need to take a child so seriously.”
Honestly, when Meng Xi first found out he had a son, it was hard to accept. But he couldn’t stay unmoved for long—Fengliu was smart, cute, and hard not to love. It didn’t take long before Meng Xi accepted him fully. His relationship with Fengmiyin had progressed quickly, too, largely thanks to Fengliu. Even if he and the boy didn’t always get along, Meng Xi was fiercely protective—his people could only be disciplined by him.
Fengguang gave a light laugh. “Oh? Lord Luo doesn’t know? I’m someone who takes everything seriously. Isn’t being serious a good thing in your eyes?”
“You’re bullying a child!” Fengliu finally shouted, looking up in a huff. It was only in moments like this—when he was angry and flustered—that he seemed like a normal kid, not some genius freak.
“Oh really?” Fengguang crossed her arms with a smirk. “I’m not bullying a child. I’m bullying you. So what are you gonna do about it? Bite me?”
