WBSGVS Chapter 181 V1

Xu Yin had done it on purpose.

Having a child was like holding a trump card. No matter how much Shen Yanjun hated her, for the sake of the baby, he wouldn’t do anything too extreme.

From the very beginning, all Xu Yin ever wanted was the wealth and status that came with being part of the Shen family.

She’d thought she could have it all—both love and fortune. But what was bound to happen still happened.

After all, Shen Yanjun never loved her to begin with.

Xu Yin felt wronged and miserable, but she knew things could be worse. At least now she had the child—her leverage. At the very least, she secured her place as the future madam of the Shen family. So when Shen Yanjun lashed out in anger, she kept silent the entire time.

Her silence only fueled his rage, but he was helpless against it. He’d never hit a woman, and she was pregnant, carrying his child. No matter how furious he was, there was nothing he could do.

They stood off in a silent stalemate, neither able to back the other into a corner.

Finally, Shen Yanjun drew in a sharp breath, turned on his heel, and walked out.

Fine. If she wanted that title so badly, let her have it. But everything else… Just the thought of sharing a bed with a woman so calculating made his skin crawl. He felt physically ill.

Driving away from the office, Shen Yanjun found that in a city this vast, there wasn’t a single place he wanted to go.

Because the one place he truly wished to be… was now off-limits.

Just a week ago, he had finally accepted that there was no possibility between him and Huo Qingli. He had completely given up. Even now, learning that they’d once shared a connection as children meant nothing. Huo Qingli wouldn’t react to it at all.

All this time, he was the one who had romanticized her—seen her as his redemption.

But to her, he was just a stranger from the past, someone she vaguely remembered from a hospital ward. There had never been love—nothing at all.

So now, he didn’t even dare to face her.

With a hard press on the gas pedal, the car sped down the road leading out of the city. If nothing else, he knew one thing for sure—he didn’t want to stay here any longer.

Back in the office lounge, Xu Yin sat frozen, her expression dazed and overwhelmed by fear.

Just half an hour ago, she had still been basking in her illusion of happiness.

She had been so sure Huo Qingli would never reveal the truth. Everything had seemed perfect. Why did that woman have to speak up now? One nap later, and her world was falling apart.

What could she do now?

When she finally stood up from the couch, her legs gave out under her. She nearly collapsed, barely catching herself on the bed’s edge.

Her legs were still trembling—she had been scared out of her wits.

A six-foot-tall man flying into a rage… terrifying.

Xu Yin gave a bitter smile, splashed cold water on her face in the bathroom, and dragged herself out.

Even the baby in her belly seemed to sense her low spirits, remaining quiet and still. Like a ghost, she made her way back to the Shen residence.

The housekeeper greeted her immediately, checking her condition with concern, then smiled gently. “It’s still early. Would you like some afternoon tea?”

A small comfort warmed Xu Yin’s heart. She didn’t have an appetite, but nodded anyway. “Sure. Bring it to my room.”

“Of course,” the housekeeper replied.

Xu Yin climbed the stairs slowly. Once in her room, she locked the door behind her.

Then her phone rang—it was her parents, people who barely contacted her unless they needed money. But this time, the tone was different. Her father sounded panicked.

“Yinyin, we saw what’s going around online about Huo Qingli and the hospital when she was a kid… Do you think Shen Yanjun knows?”

Xu Yin frowned, annoyed. “Don’t worry. I’m pregnant. Even if he knows, he won’t touch me.”

Her father didn’t sound reassured. “Are you stupid? That guy’s a rich heir. If he wants a kid, plenty of women would line up to have one for him. I told you to take the money and leave, but no, you insisted on staying. So he does know, right? What did he say?”

Xu Yin didn’t want to discuss it. “I’m hanging up.”

But her father wasn’t done. “Do you have any money left? Send some over, will you? Just in case you get kicked out, at least you’ll have something saved up.”

“Shut up!” she snapped.

Still, after ending the call, she sent him money anyway. Resigned.

When it came to money, both Shen Yanjun and Madam Shen had always been generous with her. That was one of the reasons she couldn’t walk away from the Shen family.

After all, if she was never going to get love, she might as well secure financial security.

Unlike Huo Qingli, who had loving, wealthy parents, Xu Yin’s parents had been useless from the start. When she fell ill as a child, they were ready to abandon her. The only reason they didn’t was because they heard there were charity funds they could apply for—maybe even make a little profit.

So they tried it out. And, luckily, not long after, they met Huo Changrong.

That was how Xu Yin was saved. She ended up in the same hospital room as Huo Qingli, received proper treatment, and got funds for post-surgery recovery.

To be fair, her parents hadn’t entirely abandoned her. Some of that money had indeed gone toward her treatment. But the rest went to fixing her mother’s health. Eventually, they had a son.

Later, when Madam Shen learned Xu Yin was dating Shen Yanjun, she went straight to their home and handed over a one-million-yuan check.

The Xu family, greedy as they were, bargained it up to three million before agreeing to leave the country. Madam Shen handled all the paperwork. Xu Yin, silent the whole time, didn’t object.

She’d been too young then to understand: someone who could casually offer three million probably had far more to give. She left obediently.

Once abroad, after seeing the glitz and glamour, she realized just how badly she’d misjudged. She had missed the perfect golden husband simply because she didn’t know better.

So when she was almost out of money, she came back again.

After all the back and forth, even though she’d lost Shen Yanjun, she still ended up getting what she wanted. So really… was it such a bad deal?

Xu Yin consoled herself with the thought.

But the truth was—she still liked Shen Yanjun.
