Nangong Zhe’s amused gaze shifted to Qi Wei, and he smiled. “So my fiancée has fallen in love with Doctor Qi at first sight. Well, that’s not unreasonable… after all, Doctor Qi is someone who could make even me feel tempted.”
What the hell—are you into BL too?!
Fengguang immediately shook her head, pushing that thought out of her mind. What kind of person was Nangong Zhe? To him, people weren’t divided into “attractive” or “unattractive”—only “tasty” or “not tasty.” In other words, he had no concept of gender at all. In his eyes, there was only food.
Qi Wei let out a soft laugh. “I think Miss Xia may have misunderstood something.”
“No…” Fengguang quickly replied, “I’m not lying. I really did fall in love with Doctor Qi at first sight.”
After a moment’s thought, she cupped her face in both hands and blinked, trying to look shy.
“Miss Xia…” Qi Wei began.
“What?”
“…perhaps you should practice your acting skills before saying something like that.”
“No, my acting is great.”
Qi Wei raised a hand to his forehead and sighed.
Nangong Zhe tapped a finger against his lips, frowning as if troubled. “What should I do? My fiancée has fallen for Doctor Qi at first sight. Should I just grant your wish and bring you two together…?”
Click. Fengguang had taken out her phone and snapped a photo of Nangong Zhe. She carefully put it away. “As long as I can prove I came to see you, that’s enough. Even if the Nangong family refuses to cancel the engagement, it doesn’t matter. In the end, who I marry isn’t up to them anyway.”
When she looked up again, Nangong Zhe had suddenly gone still. A moment later, his eyes flickered, and then blood began to trickle from his nose.
A strange feeling crept into Fengguang’s chest. She asked cautiously, “Nangong Zhe… what’s wrong with you?”
“You are… Xia Fengguang…” The dimness in his eyes suddenly brightened again. He clutched his head, stumbling, and said in a suppressed voice, “Leave… get out of here… now…”
“Are you okay…?” Seeing the pain on his face, Fengguang instinctively took a step forward. Just as she reached out her hand, Qi Wei grabbed her.
Qi Wei’s expression turned serious. “He’s emotionally unstable right now. We need to leave first.”
“But he—”
“Don’t worry. Someone will take care of him.” As soon as Qi Wei finished speaking, he pulled Fengguang toward the door.
Suddenly, there was a heavy thud behind them. Fengguang turned around to see Nangong Zhe collapsed on the ground. It looked like he had tried to chase after them—or perhaps forgotten that his ankles were still bound by chains. The length of the chains wasn’t enough, and he fell hard. Even so, he stretched out a hand toward Fengguang, an indistinct sound escaping his throat.
“He looks like he’s in a lot of pain…” Fengguang couldn’t pull her hand free from Qi Wei’s grip. She looked at him in confusion. “Does he have some kind of illness? He needs help.”
“Miss Xia, you can’t go near him.” Qi Wei firmly pulled her out of the room and shut the door behind them. Seeing the doubt on her face, he added, “You know exactly what kind of person he is. He has countless ways to lure his prey in. Even without a weapon, the moment you get close, he’ll find the most lethal spot on your body. Miss Xia, I’m taking you away for your own good. And I believe you can tell—he’s developed an interest in you.”
Fengguang’s face turned pale. It was definitely not a good thing for Nangong Zhe to take an interest in her. His interest in Yao Xiaoxiao might be love, but his interest in anyone else was simply hunger.
