Thank you, BlueMoon, for the ko-fi~
Qin Xun held his little hand, guiding him to write characters in the notebook.
“Yuan Yuan, Uncle Li was just humoring you. But when it comes to homework, he can’t help you.”
Qin Xun saw things much more clearly than Feng Yuan.
In this household, Li Sheng’s status was even lower than Feng Yuan’s.
For Feng Yuan to expect his big dad to stand up against his dad was absolutely impossible.
“Finish this page of homework properly. After that, do two more pages of math.”
“And there’s the craft project the teacher assigned. I’ll go get the materials ready for you.”
The winter break homework assigned by the teacher wasn’t difficult, nor was there much of it.
If Feng Yuan had listened to the teacher and worked on it bit by bit during the break, he could have easily finished it all.
But Feng Yuan, being the little slacker he was, had managed to drag out even the simplest tasks until now.
As time ticked by with no progress on Feng Yuan’s homework, Qin Xun was starting to feel uneasy, too.
“Yuan Yuan, you might have to go out this afternoon, so take advantage of now and start writing early.”
None of Qin Xun’s coaxing worked.
The little guy kept procrastinating: “Yuan Yuan will write tonight, okay?”
“Qin Xun, let’s go play with Rong Rong.”
Qin Xun didn’t let him go.
While Qin Xun was battling homework with Feng Yuan at the desk, in the bedroom, Feng Qi finally woke up from his groggy state.
He glanced at the calendar.
Li Sheng walked out of the bathroom bare-chested.
Seeing Feng Qi awake, he walked over and kissed Feng Qi’s lips again.
“Rest a little longer? I’ll bring breakfast to you.”
“No, I’ll get up to eat.”
Feng Qi forced himself to sit up. He had a pile of things to do today.
“The kindergarten notified us about vaccinations. We need to take Yuan Yuan to get one.”
“And his homework, I’m sure he hasn’t done any of it.”
“He starts school tomorrow, so we should buy him some school supplies, too.”
The moment Feng Qi opened his eyes, he began worrying about his son.
Li Sheng touched his forehead, his voice deep and pleasant.
“Don’t worry. Leave these things to me.”
“You can’t handle it. You won’t be able to manage him.”
Feng Qi knew his son’s nature all too well.
He insisted on getting up.
Li Sheng personally helped him get dressed and even massaged his waist.
The two adults didn’t stay in the bedroom for long before coming out for breakfast.
After breakfast, they went to the study.
In the study, Feng Yuan sat barefoot on the chair, his chubby legs crossed.
He stood a pen upright on the table, trying to keep it from falling over.
Seeing how engrossed he was in playing, Feng Qi walked in a few steps.
“Feng Yuan.”
Feng Qi’s arrival startled the little guy so much that he dropped the pen.
Qin Xun picked it up for him.
Feng Qi walked over to Feng Yuan and flipped through his homework notebook.
At one look, Feng Qi felt a vein throbbing on his forehead.
“Why is all your homework blank?”
Feng Yuan didn’t say a word.
He was looking at his big dad.
Li Sheng met his son’s gaze. The next second, he deliberately turned his head away.
Feng Yuan: “?”
Feng Yuan continued staring at his big dad.
Before he could stare for more than a few seconds, his dad pinched his little ear.
“Stop looking at your big dad. Look at your homework. Does your big dad have homework written on his face?”
Feng Qi held his son’s ear with one hand and pointed at the homework notebook with the other.
“Write two more pages of homework, and then we’ll go out.”
Feng Yuan didn’t want to write even one page.
He raised his chubby little hand and hugged Feng Qi’s arm.
“Dad, are we going out now? Yuan Yuan wants to go out now.”
Feng Yuan had no idea what going out meant.
But compared to doing homework at home, he thought going out was definitely better.
Feng Yuan kept begging to go out.
Seeing this, Feng Qi didn’t refuse.
“Alright.”
Feng Qi had Li Sheng carry the little guy, and the two of them went out together.
For vaccinations, they could go to the community hospital or the children’s hospital.
Feng Qi and Li Sheng didn’t bring Qin Xun along.
After all, the hospital wasn’t a good place. Qin Xun was still very young.
If they encountered any infectious diseases at the hospital, it would be troublesome.
Qin Xun understood the adults’ concerns, so he stayed home and didn’t follow.
Li Ting, however, came along.
Because when Feng Yuan got vaccinated, at least three people were needed to hold him down.
On the way to the community hospital, Feng Yuan sat in the car and even got to play with a phone.
As soon as he got in the car, he took off his little shoes and sat between his two dads.
He had asked Li Sheng for the phone.
Li Sheng glanced at Feng Qi, who hesitated for a moment before handing over his own phone.
The little guy hadn’t played with a phone in a while.
As soon as he got it, he skillfully tapped on the video icon.
“Yuan Yuan wants to record himself.”
Feng Yuan grinned, handing the phone to his dad and asking him to press the record button.
Feng Qi tapped it a few times for him, letting him start recording.
The little guy wasn’t shy at all in front of the camera.
He acted like he was filming a daily vlog, his chubby face right up against the lens.
“I’m Yuan Yuan!”
The little guy introduced himself first.
After introducing himself, he happily chattered, “Dad is taking Yuan Yuan out to play! Yuan Yuan loves going out the most!”
After mentioning his dad, he patted him.
Feng Qi was leaning back in his seat, resting with his eyes closed, and didn’t respond.
The little guy was quite talkative. He babbled into the phone for a while.
Just before they reached the hospital, he’d had enough of talking. Seeing his dad still had his eyes closed, he secretly opened a mini-game.
Even though he struggled with schoolwork, he was quite skilled at all kinds of mini-games.
He might not be good at them, but he knew how to play them all.
When the car stopped, Feng Yuan was only on the second round of his interstellar fighter game.
Feng Qi opened his eyes and took the phone back from him.
“Alright, get out. Let your big dad carry you.”
Feng Qi hadn’t held Feng Yuan much today.
He wasn’t feeling too well.
Feng Qi got out of the car first, while Li Sheng put Feng Yuan’s little cotton shoes back on before getting out.
Feng Yuan felt like he had ignored his big dad all day.
Today, he didn’t keep ignoring him.
He obediently let his big dad carry him out of the car.
The car was parked in its spot.
When Feng Yuan saw the sign for the community hospital, he frowned.
“Why are we here?”
“For your check-up.”
Feng Yuan had been to the community hospital for check-ups before.
Regular check-ups at the community hospital didn’t involve shots or medicine. Sometimes, the doctor uncle would even give out candy.
So, compared to the big hospital, Feng Yuan was a bit more accepting of the community hospital, where he’d been a few times for check-ups.
At the very least, he didn’t start crying as soon as he walked in.
“Big Dad, will the uncle give out candy today?”
“I don’t know.”
After the family went in and registered, they came out and sat on the bench to wait.
Li Ting, watching the clueless little guy, asked Feng Qi for his phone and continued recording him.
The door to the examination room was open.
Feng Yuan sat on Li Sheng’s lap, watching the child in front of him get a shot.
The children were getting their shots in the arm.
Some of the kids were quite sensitive. They started crying even before the needle came down.
Others were a bit slower to react, only puckering up and starting to cry after the shot was over.
Feng Yuan giggled as he watched.
Li Ting patted him while deliberately asking, “Yuan Yuan, is it really that funny watching other kids get shots?”
Feng Yuan nodded his little head honestly. He thought the other kids getting shots were hilarious.
Li Ting coughed lightly, suppressing his own laughter. He didn’t say much, nor did he remind Feng Yuan.
Soon enough, it was Feng Yuan’s turn in line.
Li Sheng held Feng Yuan, his body tensing up the moment he stood up.
Feng Qi also stood nearby, ready to prevent the little guy from making a run for it.
After Feng Yuan went in, he first had a check-up.
After weighing him, the doctor exclaimed, “Oh!”
“Yuan Yuan has gained quite a bit of weight over the New Year.”
“Also, his tongue coating is a bit white. Pay attention to his diet recently. Don’t let him eat too many different things. Give him more vegetables.”
The doctor went over the check-up results.
Overall, the little guy was quite healthy, with no major issues.
He’d just been eating a bit too much rich food lately.
After finishing the check-up results, the doctor took the prepared syringe from the nurse.
It was time for Feng Yuan’s vaccination.
The moment the doctor brought out the needle, Feng Qi immediately covered Feng Yuan’s eyes.
He didn’t want Feng Yuan to see.
But Feng Yuan had already spotted the needle.
The little guy’s chubby face froze for a moment before he pried his dad’s big hand away.
“Dad, why is the doctor uncle holding a needle?”
Feng Yuan was starting to realize something was wrong.
After asking, without waiting for his dad to explain, he began struggling, trying to get down.
Li Sheng didn’t let him.
“Yuan Yuan, the kindergarten notified us that all the children need to get vaccinated.”
“You saw it yourself. All the other kids got their shots, too.”
Li Sheng firmly held Feng Yuan down.
He patiently reasoned with him, “If the other kids can get their shots, our Yuan Yuan can too, right?”
“Wrong!”
Feng Yuan struggled and burst into tears, “Let the other kids get shots! Yuan Yuan won’t!”
Feng Yuan’s struggles were useless.
Li Ting also came over to hold down his little body.
With three adults restraining him, the doctor quickly gave him a shot in his chubby arm.
The doctor’s technique was excellent, but shots are never painless.
By the time the syringe was empty, Feng Yuan’s crying was loud enough to lift the roof.
The adults all tried to comfort him at once.
When they came out, Feng Yuan, teary-eyed, noticed the children waiting in line outside were giggling, too.
The little guy who had laughed at others earlier was now being laughed at by other kids.
He wiped his tears and cried so hard he sounded like a squealing pig.
Li Ting, watching him cry so pitifully, felt both heartbroken and amused.
“Yuan Yuan, don’t cry anymore. We’re all done with the shot.”
“Let’s go home now.”
The adults had come out specifically to get Feng Yuan vaccinated.
Now that it was done, of course, they were heading back.
But Feng Yuan refused to go home.
He wailed and insisted on going to the amusement park.
Li Ting, thinking about how he’d just gotten a shot and needed some comforting, tried to persuade Feng Qi, “There’s a shopping mall nearby. Why don’t we take him to the amusement park for a bit?”
Feng Qi replied, “He still has homework to finish.”
Li Ting hesitated but still said, “Playing for a little while won’t hurt.”
The little guy was also throwing a tantrum, insisting on going.
Feng Qi looked at the little guy’s pitiful face and decided to set a condition with him in advance.
“Yuan Yuan, we can go to the playground for a while now. But you have to finish your homework properly when we get back.”
“Understand?”
Feng Yuan nodded tearfully.
Once they arrived at the playground, Feng Yuan joined the other children in the inflatable castle. Soon, the tears on his little face were gone.
Feng Qi and Li Sheng waited outside the castle. Adults weren’t allowed inside such inflatable structures.
“Feng Qi, look. I’m editing a video of Yuan Yuan.”
With nothing else to do while waiting, Li Ting started editing the video he had taken.
Feng Qi leaned over to take a look.
As he watched, he noticed something unusual.
“Why are these children receiving first aid?”
In the video Li Ting had recorded, Feng Qi spotted several children in the corridor outside, their faces pale and blue, as if seriously ill. A nurse stood nearby, performing emergency measures on them.
Li Ting hadn’t noticed this scene at all. Only after Feng Qi pointed it out did he see the detail.
He zoomed in but couldn’t make out anything specific. The children didn’t seem to have choked on water or food. They showed no visible injuries, but their faces were blue, and their breathing appeared labored.
After observing the children, Feng Qi noticed that his own Yuan Yuan had been playing not far from them. For some reason, an inexplicable unease stirred in his heart.
“Children are so fragile. I wonder what happened to those kids,” Li Ting remarked, then deleted that part of the video. Since they weren’t his children, it didn’t feel right to keep the footage.
After deleting the clip, Li Ting continued editing. Soon, he finished the video, which showcased the chubby little guy in both amusing and pitiable moments.
Feng Qi chuckled as he watched. He uploaded the video to Feng Yuan’s account with a caption: “Took the little one out for a day.”
Feng Yuan’s account hadn’t been updated for several days. As soon as the new video went up, fans quickly flooded the comments section.
“Ahhh, my precious baby! Long time no see. You’ve gotten even cuter!”
“Yuan Yuan’s chubby little cheeks! Let me kiss them!”
“My poor baby, getting a vaccine must’ve hurt so much.”
The comment section buzzed with excitement as everyone fawned over the little guy.
After browsing through the comments for a while, Feng Qi turned his attention back to the castle. He watched for a few seconds before waving his hand.
“Yuan Yuan, come here.”
One of the children playing with Feng Yuan had been coughing persistently. Feng Qi wasn’t looking down on the child. He was just concerned the child might have a cold. Illnesses like colds can be contagious.
Though Feng Qi knew his son was healthy, as a parent, he couldn’t help being cautious in such situations.
After calling his son over, Feng Qi took him to eat some snacks at the mall and bought him supplies for the new school year: a new backpack, a new pencil case, some pens, notebooks, and picture books.
Feng Yuan went through these items quickly. His old metal pencil case, for instance, was somehow so dented that it couldn’t even close properly.
Feng Qi restocked everything that needed replacing. Finally, he brought his well-fed little guy back home.
By the time they returned, it was already past four in the afternoon.
Just as Feng Qi was about to steer the little guy to his desk, the child broke free and tightly wrapped his chubby little arms around Li Sheng.
“Big Dad!”
The little guy plopped right onto his big dad’s lap, tilting his chubby face upward as he began making demands: “If you don’t make Yuan Yuan do homework, Yuan Yuan won’t be mad at you anymore! Yuan Yuan will even be the bestest friend with you forever!”
Hearing this request, Li Sheng: “?”
Li Sheng’s expression tightened instantly.
The next second, he felt Feng Qi’s death glare burning into him.
Without a moment’s hesitation.
Li Sheng, who had been desperately seeking the chubby toddler’s forgiveness, firmly chose the latter between the chubby child and his wife.
He grabbed the little guy by the collar with his large hand and personally escorted him to the study desk.
Seated before the desk, the child stared at his dad holding a feather duster, then glanced at his big dad eagerly offering him water to drink.
His entire world came crashing down.
Moonlit: Yuan Yuan, your big dad’s position in the house is even lower than yours HAHAHAHAHAHAHA
