With restaurant surveillance footage as evidence, Zhou Yuan was quickly arrested and brought to justice. As individuals involved in the case, Cheng Ling and Yu Xiaoxiao were also summoned to the police station for questioning in accordance with the law.
On the street in front of the police station, Cheng Ling was filled with fear and paced back and forth for a long time, not daring to go in.
She hadn’t expected things to escalate this much. She thought that Zhou Yuan, having done so many things before, should have some experience. Even if he was stupid, he wouldn’t be caught red-handed.
As long as he wasn’t caught in the act, even if Lin Qiao wanted to expose him later, she would have to consider Su Zhengxing’s feelings. In addition, given Zhou Yuan’s father, Mr. Qian, status in Baitian, it wouldn’t be a case of nothing happening at all, and she shouldn’t be implicated!
Now, not only had that idiot Zhou Yuan been caught red-handed, but she was also dragged by him into the police station for questioning.
Although she was careful and all her interactions with Zhou Yuan were verbal, leaving no evidence, as long as she insisted that she only acted out of good intentions and had no idea Zhou Yuan would be so ruthless as to drug Lin Qiao, even if Zhou Yuan implicated her, saying she offered to help him meet Lin Qiao, she could explain that she thought Zhou Yuan liked Lin Qiao and wanted to use this to get him to owe her a favor and help her get a permanent position.
After all, she wasn’t directly involved, and Zhou Yuan never told her about the drugging beforehand, so the police couldn’t do anything to her without evidence.
However, this way, she would have offended both Zhou Yuan and Lin Qiao. Zhou Yuan has Mr. Qian, and Lin Qiao has Su Zhengxing. Offending both sides, there’s no way she can stay in Baitian.
Cheng Ling had gone to great lengths to set up this scheme just to stay at Baitian, but now she’d not only failed to catch the fox but also gotten herself into a mess. The thought alone made her feel incredibly frustrated.
After composing herself, Cheng Ling was about to walk into the police station when someone called out to her.
“Are you here to give a statement too?”
It was Yu Xiaoxiao.
Unlike Cheng Ling, who was completely flustered and overwhelmed with worry, Yu Xiaoxiao looked relaxed and seemed unaffected.
“Don’t worry, the police will investigate thoroughly. They won’t let any bad guy go unpunished, nor will they wrong any innocent person.”
Seeing her tense expression and haggard face, Yu Xiaoxiao smiled and comforted her.
Cheng Ling was taken aback that Yu Xiaoxiao could still laugh, and her anger flared.
She said irritably, “You should worry about yourself! If Lin Qiao finds out that you deliberately tricked her into going to that dinner party, do you think she’ll still consider you a friend? Will you still be able to stay in Baitian?”
Cheng Ling originally thought that this would at least stop Yu Xiaoxiao from laughing, but unexpectedly, Yu Xiaoxiao looked like she didn’t understand.
“What are you talking about? When did I trick Lin Qiao? I just happened to see the dinner invitation in the group chat and casually asked if Lin Qiao wanted to go. How can that be considered tricking?”
Cheng Ling was stunned by her brazen demeanor: “Is it really necessary to play innocent at a time like this? Do you think you can hide the deal between us?”
Yu Xiaoxiao seemed even more confused, tilting her cute baby face: “What deal? Weren’t we discussing the debate in the underground parking lot after getting off work that day?”
“What debate…” Cheng Ling trailed off, her words suddenly cut off.
