Feng Guang told herself she was a cold-hearted person, but under the weight of his deeply moving expression, she couldn’t hold her ground. Abandoning her principles, she muttered, “Maybe… maybe we could wait until we know each other better… before we, um, kiss.”
“Then let’s start getting closer now.” The dim light in An Yi’s eyes rekindled as he held Feng Guang tightly. His gentle tone betrayed the joy in his heart, making her feel undeniably cared for.
Feng Guang sighed inwardly. She suddenly felt that her initial fear of this ghostly man was laughable. He was nothing like the terrifying ghosts in horror movies. He was harmless and kind, speaking to her with such care as if terrified she might push him away.
It seemed he had been lonely for far too long.
She reminded herself repeatedly: he was her mission target—there was no reason to fear him. But beyond that, there was something about him that naturally softened her resolve.
Gathering her courage, she lifted her arms and hugged him back. Her action startled him, and he froze in disbelief for a moment. But soon, his furrowed brows smoothed, and he offered a warm, elegant smile that radiated pure contentment.
With a resigned sigh, she said, “Alright, let’s start getting closer now.”
She’d made up her mind: she would date a ghost.
A very good-looking ghost, at that.
In the end, Feng Guang and An Yi found themselves lying side by side under the covers. To be clear, they were just sharing a bed and talking—nothing more. Besides, Feng Guang wasn’t even sure if… well… certain things were physically possible between a human and a ghost.
Ahem. Moving on.
An Yi spoke softly, “Feng Guang, sleep peacefully. I’ll protect you.”
It’s precisely because you’re here that I can’t sleep!
She recalled her earlier words about “getting closer.” Maybe he misunderstood her, or maybe she misspoke. Either way, he seemed to think that sharing the same bed and keeping warm together was equivalent to “getting closer.”
Unfortunately, An Yi wasn’t human. No matter how warm the room was, his body temperature remained cool.
As he held her hand under the covers, she couldn’t help but ask, “Can you feel warmth?”
“Yes.” He smiled. “Your hand is warm, and I like it.”
His smile was so breathtaking it left her stunned. She silently lamented: Such beauty, wasted. Why does someone this good-looking have to be a ghost?
“But your hand is still cold,” she pointed out.
“If you don’t like it…” He hesitated, his beautiful brows furrowing slightly as he tightened his grip on her hand. “But… I don’t want to let go.”
By then, it was already 3 a.m., and the overdue wave of sleepiness finally crashed over her. Without much thought, she replied, “Then don’t let go. Your hand is cool and refreshing—it feels nice to hold.”
“If Feng Guang likes it, then from now on, you can only hold my hand. No one else’s, alright?”
She thought she’d never fall asleep, but his gentle voice seemed to carry a hypnotic quality. Half-asleep, her eyes barely open, she murmured, “Okay…”
Just as she drifted into slumber, An Yi leaned down and pressed a kiss to her brow. In a low voice, he whispered, “Feng Guang, we made a promise. From now on… you can’t touch any other man.”
Naturally, no other man was allowed to touch her, either.
