Feng Guang looked up and froze for a second. “Guan Yueyue?”
“Finally! Xia Feng Guang, I’ve found you at last!” Guan Yueyue was almost in tears from joy.
The man, satisfied he had brought her to the right place, scratched his head and said he had to get back to farming, then took his leave.
Feng Guang stood up. “Why are you here?”
“I got lost in the wilderness and had no idea what to do. Then, I ran into that kind man. When he saw the portrait I was holding, he recognized it as you and brought me here.”
Guan Yueyue looked haggard, a shadow of the vibrant woman she had been a year ago. After her initial joy, sorrow overtook her. She said, “Xia Feng Guang, I’ve been searching for you for a whole year.”
Feng Guang noticed a scroll in her hands but wasn’t interested in its content. “Why are you looking for me?”
“I… Nangong Li is in his hands.” At the mention of “him,” Guan Yueyue shuddered, her fear bone-deep.
Feng Guang remained silent.
With a mournful expression, Guan Yueyue continued, “Did you know? He’s been poisoning both Nangong Li and me all along, just so he could control us completely when the time came.”
“I know,” Feng Guang replied. “The poison in Dan Ya’s body has already been cured by Qing Yu.”
Qing Yu, untouched by poison, was likely kept pure for the sake of the “Phoenix Blood.”
“Qing Yu can cure his poison? That’s wonderful!” Guan Yueyue’s relief was palpable.
Mu Liunian, leaning on her back for support, groaned, “What’s so good about it? Surviving the process is excruciating. If it weren’t for me being pregnant, Dan Ya would’ve killed himself before enduring that pain.”
Xue Ran’s poison could only be cured by poison, and the torment it caused was unimaginably brutal. To keep Dan Ya alive, Mu Liunian had drugged him to sleep through the worst of it.
Ignoring Guan Yueyue’s pale face, Feng Guang asked, “What exactly do you want from me?”
“He captured Nangong Li and gave me a year to find you,” Guan Yueyue said. “It’s not just Nangong Li—Tang Sect, Thousand Gold Pavilion, and other martial sects are all involved. Sun Yidao stood on the roof, holding a flask of wine, though unusually, he wasn’t in the mood to drink. Watching the figure standing at the gate, he sighed. “Have you made up your mind?”
“He won’t let me go.” Feng Guang’s silhouette was thin and frail, even more so in the night.
“Maybe…”
“There’s no ‘maybe.’ You’re no match for him. No one here is.” After a pause, she added, “Senior Sun, I’ll have to trouble you to take care of Qing Yu and the others from now on.”
Sun Yidao nodded. “Rest assured.”
As a gust of wind swept through, her figure vanished into the night.
