As midnight approached, Fengguang lay awake in bed. She took out her phone and scrolled to a text message she received an hour ago. It contained only two words: “Good night.”
There was no signature, but she knew it was sent by Ou Xun. She couldn’t sleep because she was pondering a question: how did Ou Xun know her phone number? How did he know that she went to bed every day at exactly ten o’clock, prompting him to send the message right at that time? Moreover, she had forgotten to ask why he knew where she lived. Yes, he had brought her home without asking for directions, simply taking her straight there.
Thinking about it, that seemed like three questions. When she arrived in this world, she received a rough outline of the storyline. Each world has settings that vary to some extent, which is why the system often advises her to take things into her own hands. Although she believed she was clever enough, it felt as if she was being watched, and that made her uneasy.
Tossing and turning, unable to sleep, Fengguang decided to go to the study. She logged into a game she hadn’t played in over a month, and she was at the same location where she had logged out: the top of the Vermilion Bird Tower. The game time was synchronized with reality, meaning it was also nighttime in the game. Standing atop the tower, she gazed out at the myriad of lights below.
After admiring the night view for a while, Fengguang habitually opened her character’s inventory to check her items. To her shock, what she saw left her dumbfounded.
Her inventory wasn’t very full, so there were many empty spaces. However, now every space in her bag was occupied. Half of the previously empty spaces were filled with silver squirrels, while the other half contained azure flowers, arranged coincidentally to form a heart shape.
Oh my goodness, had her account been hacked?!
No, if her account had been hacked, her items would have been stolen completely. How could a hacker put things into her inventory?
A voice drifted through the air, “You’re online.”
“Who?!” Fengguang looked around, but there was no one there. Yet, the voice sounded right next to her ear, carrying a hint of melancholy.
“It’s me.”
“Who are you?”
“…”
She opened her friend list, and her only friend was Xia Tian, who wasn’t online. Then she opened her enemies list, and sure enough, there was only one person online: Ren Wuxing. “Ren Wuxing?”
“Yeah.”
“…What are you up to? Are you trying to scare me by going invisible just because you’re a killer?”
After a second, the voice spoke again, “I thought you didn’t want to see me.”
“Are you Ren Wuxing?” she questioned, “Or is it someone else using Ren Wuxing’s account?”
This was all very strange! Previously, he would just stab her without explanation, but now he was acting like a wronged little lady!?
“I am Ren Wuxing.” Finally, his figure materialized before her.
When Fengguang turned around, she bumped into him, her hands instinctively pushing against his chest. It dawned on her how close they were, prompting her to take several steps back and cross her arms, “You… you didn’t do anything strange to me while you were invisible, did you?”
After a brief silence, he replied, “No.”
“Then what was that silence about?”
“…”
“You did something strange to me!” she asserted, retreating several more steps. However, she forgot that she was standing on the edge of the tower. As she stepped back again, she lost her balance and fell off the edge.
This story is absolutely the cutest. I love the little worlds and I adore the main characters. I’ve gobbled up this story so fast I need more!!!!!
