Discuss The Matter At Hand (1)

“Oh, you just said that you saw me naked, but it turned out that the hole was just dug today. Do you think you are the only one with a mouth? You are a stinky hooligan, and your words are worse than shit. Do you think everyone here has no brains? Who would believe your nonsense?” Yi Qingqing snorted coldly.

“Comrade Cai, even though we haven’t read as many books as you, everyone knows the story of The Boy Who Cried Wolf. Others don’t mention it, but Comrade Zhao and Comrade Zhou have people living around them. Where are you going to dig the hole?” Aunt Guihua spat at him.

Yi Qingqing secretly gave Aunt Guihua a thumbs up, as what she said hit the nail on the head.

In fact, what Cai Chunshan said was not all false.

Yi Qingqing knew it best.

Not to mention others, Wang Lingling and Liu Chunxing must have been spied on by him. Tang Lan just now broke her usual habit of not pretending to be soft, so there might be something wrong with her too.

But, he should have no chance against Zhao Fang and Zhou Yanhong.

Although she had no friendship with these people and even had quarrels with some of them, she did not want to attack them in the name of women’s reputation.

Compared with the conflicts she had with them, Cai Chunshan was more hateful.

In this world, women had a harder time than men. Yi Qingqing felt bad if they were not united, which was adding insult to injury.

She did not think that she was repaying evil with kindness, nor did she expect that after this incident, the female educated youths who usually disliked her would put aside their prejudices and be grateful to her.

She was just discussing the matter at hand.

She still disliked those people who she didn’t like. If they acted like a demon in front of her in the future, she would fight back immediately.

But, she, Yi Qingqing, didn’t want to add insult to injury at this time.

Yi Qingqing didn’t want to hear Cai Chunshan’s spitting nonsense again, so she took the dirtiest linen cloth in the room, rolled it up, and stuffed it into his mouth.

She prepared this rotten rag specially for this moment. She used it to wipe everything that was dirty these days and never washed it. (T/N: GOOD!!!)

Then, she said to the Captain, “Uncle Youtian, I’ll take half a day off tomorrow to report a case. Let’s tie him up in this room today. We will keep an eye on him.”

“Okay, everyone, let’s go!” Captain Zhao Youtian said.

Aunt Guihua patted Yi Qingqing on the shoulder before leaving, “You are great, girl!”

Zhou Qiang, Zhao Fang, and Zhou Yanhong also left one after another, followed by Lu Xianjin and Xie Shiyan.

Lu Zhendong walked up to Cai Chunshan and wanted to say something to him, but in the end, he just sighed heavily.

Liu Chunxing also pulled Wang Lingling to leave, but Wang Lingling turned back and nodded to Yi Qingqing before leaving.

Tang Lan waited in silence until they all left before she walked up to Yi Qingqing and said quickly, “I owe you a favor.”

After all the outsiders left, the six people who planned this ‘rat catching’ operation smiled at each other and high-fived each other to celebrate.

“Thank you for your help. Tomorrow at noon, I will treat you to boiled fish. See you at Reed Marsh!” Yi Qingqing said to them.

She really had to thank them for this matter. Otherwise, if she had to rely on herself, it might have been a lot more troublesome.

Yi Qingqing was very grateful that they were willing to get involved in this matter that had nothing to do with them based solely on her one-sided statement.

Knowing that these people were greedy for her cooking, she offered this as a thank you.

She had just learned how to make boiled fish from Master Wen not long ago, and she still had a few of the fish she got from signing in at the riverbank last time, so she let them have a taste.

The Boy Who Cried Wolf

The Boy Who Cried Wolf is one of Aesop’s Fables, numbered 210 in the Perry Index. From it is derived the English idiom “to cry wolf”, defined as “to give a false alarm” in Brewer’s Dictionary of Phrase and Fable and glossed by the Oxford English Dictionary as meaning to make false claims, with the result that subsequent true claims are disbelieved.

The tale tells a story about a shepherd boy who repeatedly fools villagers into thinking a wolf is attacking their town’s flock. When an actual wolf appears and the boy calls for help, the villagers believe that it is another false alarm, so the sheep are eaten by the wolf. In a later English-language poetic version of the fable, the wolf also eats the boy.

The moral stated at the end of the Greek version is, ‘this shows how liars are rewarded: even if they tell the truth, no one believes them’.
