Ning Wanyin wore a crimson hibiscus embroidered double-breasted pleated skirt today, with a large-sleeved shirt with snow-white gold thread on the outside. A pair of butterfly-shaped gold hairpins with pearl swaying adorned her hair, making her beautiful and flamboyant.
She remained silent, quietly observing the unfolding events.
If one were to say that Ning Wanyin deliberately plotted to harm Liu Zhaoyi, smart people would still find some doubts.
Ning Wanyin came from an ordinary family, had just entered the palace, and had little influence. Where would she have gotten the information that Liu Zhaoyi was pregnant?
However, what if she only wanted to harm Li Guiren?
She and Li Guiren were already at odds. Li Guiren had inquired about her private affairs through Dan Li, so it was perfectly normal for Ning Wanyin to use Dan Li to retaliate.
Tianzhu grass (a type of medicinal herb) caused infertility; if she wanted to ruin Li Guiren’s future, this was the most suitable medicine.
When the ashes of Tianzhu grass were found in her palace, the evidence of her guilt was solid.
One link led to another.
“Your Majesty, Dan Li is definitely Ning Wanyin’s person. Dan Li told me that she had said something against her and was driven away by her, and I was so stupid that I actually believed it. Dan Li had never done anything to harm her. When she was punished by the Empress Dowager, Dan Li also personally went to invite you… They’re in cahoots!” Li Guiren cried, tears streaming down her face.
“Ning Wanyin is plotting to murder me. I beg Your Majesty to do justice for me!”
Ning Wanyin glanced at her calmly and said, “You said Dan Li was my person and that I was trying to murder you. What evidence do you have?”
“I… I… Tianzhu Grass is not something from my palace. This harmful thing must be hidden in your palace! I beg Your Majesty to search the Lingxue Pavilion!” Li Guiren kowtowed.
Ning Wanyin’s eyes grew even darker.
Search Lingxue Pavilion?
It seemed that Li Guiren was well aware that there was medicinal ash hidden in her palace.
Upon hearing this, Helian Qi also looked at Ning Wanyin. His pair of deep black eyes was unfathomable.
Ning Wanyin couldn’t understand what he was thinking, but she knew that the Emperor must have wanted to dig up Lingxue Pavilion to find out who wanted to kill his child.
“In order to prove my innocence, I request Your Majesty to search Lingxue Pavilion.” Ning Wanyin bowed deeply.
Helian Qi said calmly, “Wang Degui, take the female physician with you and go check it out yourself!”
“Yes!”
Wang Degui and the female physician acknowledged the order and withdrew.
Li Guiren felt a sense of relief.
Once the search team returned, Ning Wanyin would be doomed!
By then, she would be the victim, and the blame would fall on Ning Wanyin, allowing her to escape unscathed.
Wang Degui brought his men to search Lingxue Pavilion thoroughly, inside and out.
He quickly returned to report.
“Your Majesty, no trace of Tianzhu Grass was found.”
Li Guiren’s pupils trembled.
How could it be possible?
It was clearly hidden well…
“If Ning Meiren intended to murder someone, it’s entirely possible she would have destroyed Tianzhu Grass beforehand to cover her tracks.” Xue Zhaoyi frowned.
Ning Wanyin looked at her sharply and retorted, “So, without any evidence, you’re accusing me of murdering Li Guiren? If I wanted to harm her, why would I go to such lengths? What is she anyway?”
As soon as she finished speaking, Ning Wanyin walked straight to Li Guiren, raised her hand, and slapped her hard in the face.
A crisp ‘slap’ rang out.
Li Guiren was slapped to the ground. She covered her face in shock and looked at Helian Qi with grievance, “Your Majesty, she hit me…”
“You are a lower-ranking official, yet you falsely accuse your superior. This is the first crime.”
“You have failed to properly manage your palace maids, endangering the imperial heir. This is your second crime.”
As Ning Wanyin spoke, she slapped Li Guiren again, leaving her face red and swollen.
The entire audience was shocked.
Even Helian Qi widened his eyes slightly. He had never thought that this young woman could have such a domineering side.
After slapping Li Guiren twice, Ning Wanyin looked toward Helian Qi and bowed.
