With the aunt playing the bad cop, the uncle stepped in to play the good cop.

He feigned humility and said to Lin Qiao, “Qiao Qiao, I know you’re still angry with me and your aunt. As elders, we shouldn’t hold it against you. I said some harsh words the other day, so I apologize today. But you and your cousin grew up together, and now that he’s in trouble. Can you really bear to watch him get chased for debt and be unable to return home?”

Lin Qiao sneered, “I only know that if you commit a crime, you go to jail, and if you do something wrong, you have to pay the price. Uncle, if you’re really that anxious, you can sell the house. It’s only a million. Once the house sells, it’ll fetch not just one million, but millions!”

When the aunt heard this, she immediately started crying and wailing, “We have raised a useless child. Your brother and I only have that house to live on in our old age. If we sell it, we’ll have to sleep on the streets!”

The uncle’s face was filled with embarrassment, and his tone turned cold.

Seeing that soft tactics didn’t work, the uncle resorted to moral blackmail and pulled the aunt as if he was about to leave.

This move directly caught Lin’s father in the eye. He immediately shouted at Lin Qiao, “Stop talking! Go to the bank and withdraw the money right now!”

“I won’t! It’s my money. I won’t lend it to you!” Lin Qiao insisted.

Father Lin was furious.

“Okay, okay, you’re going to divide yours with your father, right? Fine! If you won’t lend me the money, then this house is mine. Get out of here!”

Seeing that Father Lin was so angry that he started to speak without thinking, Zhuang Yun wanted to come out to smooth things over, but Lin Qiao also had a quick temper. Before she could say anything, she slammed the door and ran away with red eyes.

“Get out if you want!”

Zhuang Yun was completely overwhelmed by the chaos on New Year’s Eve. She quickly signaled to Lin Ji to chase her.

Lin Qiao ran out of the house crying.

Lin Ji followed her and wanted to comfort her, but was afraid of being shot by her.

“Dad didn’t mean what he said. He was just angry.” Lin Ji said.

Lin Qiao wiped her tears with her sleeve and continued walking out of the complex.

“But they never told you to get out, not even when they were angry.”

Lin Ji tried to make an excuse, “Maybe because I’m a man, they got angry and beat me up?”

“No.”

Lin Qiao paused and said with an expression that made Lin Ji feel unfamiliar, “Because they believe from the bottom of their hearts that I will leave home one day, and you won’t.”

Lin Qiao didn’t say some things too bluntly, but Lin Ji understood them in his heart.

“I’m different from them. I’ve never thought that way.” Lin Ji said.

Gender stereotypes are a chronic disease of the times. Lin Ji hates them, but he has enjoyed the benefits of these stereotypes since he was born, and he can’t even avoid some of them.

“I know, so I don’t hate you.” Lin Qiao smiled bitterly.

“I want to be alone for a while.”

Lin Qiao is afraid of being denied, and Su Zhengxing is afraid of losing his value.

“Su Zhengxing, I don’t want to go home. Can I come to your house?” Lin Qiao suddenly said.
