Puff!—
The muffled sound of a sword piercing flesh could be heard.
Xiao Zimo watched helplessly as the sword pierced his mother’s abdomen. He was completely stunned and cried out in shock.
“Mother.”
Bei Yutang took the blow head-on. Meanwhile, she was not idle, striking the assassin with an ice palm strike and slashing his neck with her dagger.
An Ye saw Bei Yutang injured and knew that if he didn’t get to it, the three of them would likely be dead.
The assassin leader, sensing An Ye’s urgency, ordered his men to restrain him. The more he pressed, the more relentless they became.
Xiao Zimo looked at his mother, severely injured by his own carelessness. His eyes suddenly reddened, and he fought back tears.
Seeing Bei Yutang severely injured, the assassins attacked her, preparing to eliminate her first, leaving the other two to be a minor concern.
Xiao Zimo suddenly felt relieved. He had been dealing with the assassins effectively until now, but now he was unexpectedly making numerous mistakes.
The more anxious he was to help his mother, the more vulnerable he became. He nearly got killed several times, but thankfully, his agility allowed him to avoid them all.
Bei Yutang wanted to help, but she couldn’t spare the effort. Fortunately, Xiao Zimo was quick to react.
Bei Yutang saw Xiao Zimo’s problem. “Mo’er, protect yourself. Stay calm and don’t be distracted. Mother believes you can do it.”
After hearing his mother’s words, Xiao Zimo began to adjust his mindset. At that moment, an assassin suddenly attacked, heading toward Bei Yutang. Xiao Zimo happened to see it.
Frightened, he rushed forward without thinking, wanting to defend his mother.
By this time, he had braced himself for the sword’s piercing blow. However, the pain he awaited didn’t arrive. Xiao Zimo saw the towering figure of Coachman Zhang standing in front of him.
With a chuckle, he spat out a large mouthful of blood. The warm blood sprayed onto his face, burning him with an unnatural intensity that made his heart tremble.
“Uncle Zhang!” Xiao Zimo’s childish voice was filled with fear and shock.
Bei Yutang heard the sound and turned to see Coachman Zhang pierced by the sword.
Anger surged within Bei Yutang. She knew that if she didn’t come up with a plan, Xiao Zimo or she would be the next to die. She continued to move closer to the carriage.
The men, assuming she was trying to escape to An Ye, naturally tried to stop her.
Bei Yutang had tried this before, but they had always stopped her. Unable to get closer, she could only let Xiao Zimo pass while she held the others.
“Mo’er, go to the carriage.”
Bei Yutang didn’t dare say anything more, knowing that Xiao Zimo, with her intelligence, would understand her meaning.
At Bei Yutang’s voice, Xiao Zimo immediately snapped out of his shock.
Now with fewer people to confront him, plus his agility, he took advantage of the assassin’s moment to scuttle to the side of the carriage and slip inside.
The assassin closed in, slashing at the carriage with his sword, attempting to split Xiao Zimo and the carriage apart.
As he swung his sword, Xiao Zimo leaped from behind the carriage and, before the man could react, threw something in his face. After doing all this, he didn’t even pause, as if the person behind him was no longer a threat.
Xiao Zimo ran directly toward Bei Yutang. He wasn’t acting rashly; he was waiting for his opportunity. Finally, he found his opportunity. He knew the poison powder would be most effective only when the men in black were off guard.
