Chen Haitang chatted with Feng Guang for a bit longer before leaving together with Tang Xiaole.
Before they went, Feng Guang asked, “So what are you two going to do from now on? After all—”
“I know what you’re trying to say.” Chen Haitang glanced at Tang Xiaole and smiled at Feng Guang with ease. “Honestly, this whole ‘the living and the dead are worlds apart’ thing depends on the people involved. Even if Xiaole’s a ghost, as long as she can stay by my side, what difference does it make whether she’s human or not? When I die one day, won’t I be a ghost too? By then, I’ll just go with her to the underworld.”
Feng Guang didn’t know how to respond. After a moment of thought, she pulled out a talisman and handed it to Chen Haitang. “This is a concealment charm. As long as she carries it, the ghost wardens won’t be able to detect Tang Xiaole. I’m not sure if this is the right thing to do… but since you both think things are fine the way they are now, this is the best I can do for you.”
“Thank you, Xia Feng Guang.” Chen Haitang took the charm with genuine gratitude. “In the future, if there’s anything shady about your family’s business, I’ll tell my dad to just turn a blind eye.”
With that, she left with Tang Xiaole.
The corner of Feng Guang’s eye twitched. What did she mean by “anything shady” about their business? Her parents had never left anyone any leverage to use against them, thank you very much!
Wait… actually, now that she thought about it, maybe that wasn’t entirely true.
She was still caught up in that thought when a hand suddenly appeared in front of her, along with a man’s voice. “This time they’re milk-flavored. Want some?”
Feng Guang looked down at the sunflower seeds in his palm, then up at his face. His smile was as flawless and captivating as always.
For a brief moment, she felt dazed. Then she forced a small smile. “No thanks, I’m not really into sunflower seeds these days.”
“Is that so?” Yun Ji’s smile carried a trace of bitterness. He withdrew his hand and said softly, “I’ve been back in the demon realm for a while, trying to see if there was any way to wake you up. I’m sorry… I missed the time when you were discharged from the hospital.”
“It’s fine. I’m already better now anyway.” Feng Guang shrugged, her tone completely indifferent. She smiled. “Senior Yun Ji, if there’s nothing else, I’ll be going.”
“Feng Guang… do you have to talk to me with such a cold attitude?”
“Cold? Senior, aren’t you mistaken? You’re the one who asked me to call you ‘senior,’ remember? You were three years ahead of me in school—it’s only natural I call you that.”
Yun Ji gave a bitter smile. “You’re right.”
“Well, if there’s nothing else, I’ll be off.” She started to walk past him, but as they were about to brush shoulders, he grabbed her wrist.
His smile was devastatingly charming, yet it carried a kind of quiet sorrow that could make anyone’s heart ache. “Feng Guang, you’re still upset with me, aren’t you?”
“No, I’m not upset. In a dangerous situation like that, everyone can only act on instinct. You like Yan Yu, so of course you’d save her. It’s perfectly reasonable.”
She was being understanding, even magnanimous, with not a trace of blame or resentment in her tone. Yun Ji should have been relieved, but instead, a heavier sense of gloom settled in his heart. His grip on her hand tightened. “What do I have to do… for you to forgive me?”
“You didn’t do anything to wrong me, so what’s there to forgive?” Feng Guang smiled and gently pulled her hand free. “Senior, don’t joke around like that.”
