“If I can’t outrun you anyway…” Feng Guang pressed her lips together. “If you wanted to kill me, I wouldn’t be able to escape even if I tried. So why waste my energy struggling?”
To be honest, the fact that they were having such a calm conversation right now was kind of absurd, especially when compared to how Jun Yu and Yan Yu first met; those two had started by going at each other.
Jun Yu gave her another approving look. “You’re very smart.”
If he truly wanted to do something, Yan Yu might still be able to fight back. But as for Feng Guang, he could stop her with just a flick of his finger.
“I’m not that smart…” she scratched her head sheepishly. “Um… are you here waiting to fight with Yan Yu? If so, should I call her and pretend I’ve been kidnapped to lure her over?”
“…That won’t be necessary.”
“Oh, okay. Suit yourself.” Feng Guang tried inching away. “I still have homework to do. If there’s nothing else, I’ll just head back now…”
“You don’t need to be nervous,” he said, stopping her in her tracks. “I won’t hurt you.”
Her first reaction upon hearing that was to imagine what Yan Yu would do if she heard a demon she hated saying such a thing. She’d probably draw her sword on the spot and shout something like, “Deceitful demon!”
“I won’t hurt you either,” Feng Guang said after a 0.001-second pause to think of a reply. As soon as she spoke, she instantly regretted it—what could she possibly do to him?
But Jun Yu didn’t take it as arrogance. Instead, he nodded seriously. “I know.”
After that, Feng Guang had no idea what to say next. The atmosphere became strangely quiet.
She looked at his handsome face—one that seemed permanently incapable of smiling—and her thoughts began to drift in an odd direction. If it were this guy… he’d be pretty perfect for the lead role in my dreams.
The silence started to get awkward.
She nervously twiddled her fingers and thought maybe she should have just fought him like Yan Yu did. Then a thought struck her—Yan Yu! She cleared her throat and said, “Hey, teacher, if you’re into Yan Yu, I’d advise you to give up now. That girl hates demons and anything even remotely supernatural. She’s been brainwashed by all those ancient books and genuinely believes her mission in life is to vanquish evil. Especially demons—they’re her number one enemy. I’d say… your chances with her are slim to none.”
She was just trying to convince him to stay away from Yan Yu. After all, Yan Yu was human, and he was a demon—there was no future for them, not unless they wanted to be struck down by divine punishment.
Jun Yu didn’t immediately deny his interest in Yan Yu. Instead, after a pause, he asked softly, “She hates demons that much?”
“Yep. No idea why, but she just assumes all demons are evil. She’s got that ‘better to kill a thousand than let one go’ attitude.”
“Maybe… I know why,” he murmured. “Why does she hate demons. Why does she hate me…”
Feng Guang blinked in confusion. “I don’t even know why—how come you do?”
He lowered his eyes and stayed silent. As always, his cold expression gave nothing away. A few seconds later, he turned his back to her and then vanished into a swirl of black mist.
Feng Guang blinked again.
What the heck was that about?
First, he showed up out of nowhere, then had a weird, pointless conversation, and finally disappeared just as abruptly.
Well, at least he was gone now.
Which meant she didn’t have to figure out how to sneak away anymore.
