Master Chen smiled cheerfully as he returned to his room. Feng Guang tugged at Sijia’s sleeve.
“If you thought they were so suspicious, why did you still agree to let me watch their performance?”

“Because it doesn’t matter.”

Seeing her looking meek and pitiful, Sijia suddenly felt a wave of helplessness wash over him.

“Can I sleep here tonight?” she asked, blinking at him with big, pitiful eyes.

“…” He paused for a long moment. “Miss Xia, it’s inappropriate for a man and woman to share a room.”

“Don’t worry, I’ll sleep on the floor! You take the bed. That way it’s not inappropriate at all!”

“But…”

“If you’re worried about my reputation, don’t. No one in this town knows who I am, and you’re not the gossiping type, right? No one will find out. And if you’re worried about your reputation… I’ll marry you!”

Sijia raised a hand to his forehead, feeling a rare sense of utter powerlessness.

“Sijia… please? I sleep very quietly.” She grabbed his hand and shook it gently. For a princess, acting cute came surprisingly naturally.

Anyone else would’ve caved immediately—but not him. He remained unresponsive.

Feng Guang pushed harder, her eyes shimmering with misty innocence. “Didn’t you say you’d protect me for the next three days? What if something does happen to me?”

Sijia waited, but she never actually cried. He finally let out a sigh.
“You can stay.”

“Yes!”

See? The second he agreed, all her pitiful expressions vanished. Her face changed as quickly as flipping a page.

She even pulled a blanket from the wardrobe and started setting up a bed on the floor. Sijia stepped in to stop her.

“You take the bed. I’ll sleep on the floor.”

Feng Guang blinked in surprise.

“What’s wrong?” he asked.

“Nothing…” She just found it odd. Why would he let her take the bed? Shouldn’t he be insisting she sleep on the floor? But strangely enough, that expectation came from a gut feeling she couldn’t explain. Since she couldn’t make sense of it, she just let it go and smiled sweetly.
“You’re so kind, Sijia. I’ll be kind to you too.”

Right after saying something that touching, she shoved the blanket into his arms and jumped into bed without a shred of hesitation.

Sijia didn’t complain. Sleeping on the floor wasn’t a big deal—he’d stayed in far worse conditions before. He turned off the light and lay down fully clothed. But just as he closed his eyes, a voice came from the bed.

“Sijia, what do you think of me?”

“What do you mean?” he asked.

In the darkness, her voice was especially clear.
“Mm… Do you think I’m pretty?”

There was a pause before he answered.
“Yes. You’re pretty.”

That, at least, was the truth.
