That summer, not long after Xiaoxiao’s third birthday, Fengguang received a call from Lu Heng. It was the first time they had contacted each other in three years.

Lu Heng sounded cheerful as she laughed. “Miss Xia, my wedding is the day after tomorrow. I’d like to invite you to attend.”

Fengguang was surprised by the invitation. After all, she had only met Lu Heng once and spoken to her on the phone once. She truly could not understand why Lu Heng would suddenly invite her like this.

Still, she offered her congratulations and agreed to attend the wedding. Lu Heng later had someone deliver the invitation card. “Then can Mommy and I have a wedding too?”

Xiaoxiao grabbed Fengguang’s hand and swung it back and forth. “Mommy’s going to a wedding. Can you take Xiaoxiao too?”

“I probably can’t…”

“Pleeease, Mommy, take Xiaoxiao out with you…” Xiaoxiao buried herself against Fengguang’s shoulder, her little shoulders trembling pitifully. “Xiaoxiao’s never gone outside before. Xiaoxiao wants to see a wedding too…”

Fengguang carried Xiaoxiao out through the back door. A car sent by Lu Heng was already waiting for them outside.
