On the way back from the beach, Qi Wei carried her on his back all the way to the dormitory. He was always willing to shower her with the patience and indulgence lovers gave each other, but Fengguang understood very clearly that all of it existed only within the boundaries of what he allowed.
As long as she did not cross his line, she could enjoy his meticulous care. No matter how difficult her requests were, he would find a way to fulfill them.
But if she crossed that line…
The events of that day were still vivid in her memory. They had already become a nightmare she could not escape.
Qi Wei no longer kept her chained up. Occasionally, he would even take her out of the dormitory for walks. Their relationship appeared to have eased somewhat, though it was only an appearance. Of course, every movement she made still had to be with him by her side.
In the cafeteria, Qi Wei had gone to get food. Fengguang sat on a stool, watching the people passing back and forth. The fear she had once felt was completely gone now.
So what if these doctors and nurses dressed in white coats and dresses were psychiatric patients?
At the very least, they were not as terrifying as Qi Wei.
At least they could still eat and chat like normal people. As long as no one said anything that provoked them, they were no different from ordinary people.
Qi Wei was different.
He had never been normal, and he had never once believed himself to be mentally ill.
“Miss Xia.”
The Zheng brothers, whom she had not seen in a long time, walked over.
Fengguang looked up at Zheng Gao and Zheng Fei, surprise flickering across her face. “Do you need something from me?”
She had hardly gone outside during this period. Even running into Yang Hui and Liu Xun at the beach had only been by chance. She had even less interaction with these two men.
Zheng Gao glanced toward Qi Wei’s figure in the distance and lowered his voice.
“Miss Xia, if you want to leave this place, please come outside with us.”
As soon as he finished speaking, Zheng Gao and Zheng Fei left the cafeteria as though they had merely passed by casually.
Fengguang glanced at Qi Wei, who was still waiting in line. She hesitated only briefly before following them out.
The Zheng brothers were waiting behind the tree near the cafeteria’s back entrance. When they saw her come out, both of them visibly relaxed.
Zheng Gao said, “Miss Xia, my brother and I are retired soldiers. Maybe you and the others haven’t noticed it yet, but we can tell there’s something very wrong with this place.”
Zheng Fei moved ahead to keep watch in case anyone came near.
Zheng Gao continued, “My brother and I followed Qi Wei for a while. We discovered that this hospital actually has an underground area that’s basically a prison. The people locked down there are the hospital’s real doctors. Even the real director is imprisoned there. The doctors and director we see now are actually the real patients.”
“Really?” Fengguang’s reaction was calm toward something she had already known for a long time.
“Miss Xia, the true person in control of this hospital now is Qi Wei. And Qi Wei is an extremely cautious man. But he seems to treat you very well, and he doesn’t guard himself against you as much.”
“So what do you want me to do?”
Finally, Zheng Gao revealed his true purpose. He took out a bottle of pills.
“These are ordinary sleeping pills. Tomorrow, I’ll also put sleeping medication into the cafeteria’s water supply. But Qi Wei may not come to the cafeteria, so I hope you can get him to take this.”
For the first time, her expression changed. “What’s your plan?”
“I’ll release the people imprisoned in the basement, and these real psychiatric patients who’ve lost their ability to fight will be returned to where they belong.”
