She had a nightmare.

“No one can take you away from me. Not even you.”
No matter how tender or loving his words sounded, he always managed to fill her with an indescribable fear.
Then she woke up.
Sitting up in bed, she realized the man beside her was gone. Feng Guang’s head throbbed, and she coughed several times. She remembered now—she had caught a cold. That was why Qi Wei had not carried her around like a personal doll and taken her to his office today. After examining her, he had concluded it was just a feverish cold, and she needed rest.
She climbed out of bed and looked at the tightly shut door. Experimentally, she grasped the doorknob. As always, the door was locked fast. She was not exactly disappointed anymore. After all, she was already used to it.
The cold not only raised her temperature but also left her dizzy and lightheaded. Feng Guang opened the window, and the cold wind blowing in made her feel slightly better. Her mind cleared as well.
With Qi Wei no longer beside her, she finally felt like she could breathe again.

But now things were different.
Feng Guang reached the ground barefoot, stepping onto earth covered with fallen leaves. She did not know how her feverish body had suddenly found so much strength. She only knew that if she missed this chance, she might never return home again.
She knew the path to the shore well. Every day, she had stood by the window, memorizing the terrain, waiting for the day she might have a chance to escape.
Going downhill was actually harder than climbing up, but it did not matter if the thorns cut her feet until they bled.
As long as she could leave this place… nothing else mattered.
